Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 — Inter-Knot Commissions? A Daily Intelligence System!

Next, the group members gave Sakiko a brief introduction of themselves.

Roasted Eggplant: Her real name was Mash Kyrielight, sixteen years old. She was currently serving as a Demi-Servant in Chaldea, clearing Singularities, stopping the Incineration of Humanity, and reclaiming the future of mankind.

Giant Daifuku: Her real name was Tsunade, around fifty. Unemployed, drifting through life, addicted to drinking and gambling.

Purple Yam Taro: Her real name was Kafka. She didn't reveal her age—saying that "mystery makes a woman more of a woman." Her organization's goal: to carry the galaxy beyond the End, toward a new future.

Group Owner: His real name was Aisen, though everyone still habitually called him "Group Owner." The only man in the group. Because he possessed the ability to rewind worlds, he was—both in reality and in the group—humanity's final safeguard.

As for Sporty Bento, Sakiko had already learned a lot from the earlier text relay: a woman named Rin, around twenty-five, whose main objective was to investigate Hollows and find traces of her missing teacher.

Honestly, Sakiko felt like most of the group members lived in worlds that were… absurdly abstract.

Incineration of Humanity. Hollow disasters. Crossing the End.

She couldn't even form a concrete picture of what those phrases meant.

The only part she truly understood was Tsunade's "drinking and gambling all day"—and the moment she connected that to her own scumbag father, Sakiko almost reacted on instinct like a threatened cat, bristling and hissing.

Once Sakiko had properly blended into the rhythm of the conversation, Aisen had the group assistant continue introducing the remaining items—besides the Word-Soul Stockings, the Willpower Glasses, and the Omen Premonition.

[Group Owner (Aisen)]: Alright. The new member's acquainted with everyone now. @Group Assistant, continue with the remaining items.

The assistant's message immediately refreshed across the chat:

[Group Assistant]:Functional Item: Inter-Knot Commission, concept extracted from [Sporty Bento].

Price: 1 point.

After purchase, the system will randomly generate a list of help-request tasks that match the buyer's personal situation.

Completing tasks grants rewards. Reward generosity depends on task difficulty and the requester's satisfaction with the result.

Rewards are usually related to the requester and may include money, special abilities, fortune boosts, and more.

The moment that description appeared, Rin lit up with excitement.

[Sporty Bento (Rin)]: Whoa! This is definitely a concept pulled from my identity as a Proxy! It feels so weird being used as inspiration for a product!

She practically bought Inter-Knot Commission the instant it appeared on the shelf.

A brand-new sub-window popped up in her view, listing five task entries. At the bottom was a Refresh button, also priced at 1 point.

Rin scanned quickly.

"Hm… enter a Hollow to find experimental materials… collect interference-source data from inside a Hollow… enter a Hollow to take photos… find a missing Bangboo… and help grind Inter-Knot experience…"

She muttered as she read:

"This style really is everyday life on the Inter-Knot. But why doesn't it show the rewards?"

"Fairy!"

She called her assistant, Fairy, and described the five tasks in detail.

"Check whether there are matching commissions on the Inter-Knot."

"Understood, Master."

Fairy's cursor flickered at high speed. Then she reported:

"Master, the tasks Find a Missing Bangboo, Collect Interference-Source Data, and Enter the Hollow to Take Photos have commission postings on the Inter-Knot with over 85% similarity."

"I also found many newly posted, suspected 'high-quality commissions' that look like they're meant for order-farming—possibly related to the grind Inter-Knot experience task."

"As for entering a Hollow to find experimental materials, I did not find anything similar."

"So it's not simply copying public commissions. It seems to generate a commission as long as there is a demand."

Rin stroked her chin, then tapped the Refresh button that cost 1 point.

The task list instantly updated:

"Go to Hollow Zero's core zone and eliminate the elite enemy 'Defiler'… go to Hollow Zero and stabilize the Tenth Defense Line… stabilize the Ninth Defense Line… assist with Hollow Zero logistics… and buy freshly baked red bean buns for Yanagi."

Rin couldn't help laughing.

"Yanagi really loves red bean buns."

She immediately shared her findings with the group:

[Sporty Bento (Rin)]: Re-buying doesn't stack tasks. It always shows five entries. If you want different ones, you have to spend points to refresh.

[Sporty Bento (Rin)]: The rewards aren't stated—probably because the difficulty and requester satisfaction fluctuate too much, so the system can't display them in advance.

So the others started buying and testing it too.

Mash's task list was basically "help the staff of Chaldea with work":

Assist in monitoring vital signs for a cryogenically frozen Master.

Repair three sets of spiritron generators.

Organize materials for spiritron transfer.

Prepare a simple dinner for eighty people.

Sort the piled-up spiritron transfer logs in the control room.

Mash sighed. Chaldea was desperately understaffed—everyone was overloaded, doing everything they could just to keep Chaldea running.

Kafka's tasks, on the other hand, were bizarre in every direction:

Plan a "perfect accident" for an executive of the Interastral Peace Corporation.

Win an auction lot—artifact K-07—at a black-market auction on Pier Point.

Collect Star-Tear Stones produced in the Talasa star sector.

Deliver an urgent encrypted document to Miss Tingyun of the Xianzhou Luofu.

Obtain the blueprint for the latest mechanical core model from Planet Screwllum.

Kafka merely glanced at them. She had no interest in requests scattered across the galaxy, and closed the window without hesitation.

Sakiko's list was filled with everyday, down-to-earth life:

Convenience store part-time cashier.

Secondhand bookstore part-time sorting and shelving.

Café piano performance.

Pick up parcels on someone's behalf.

Hand out supermarket promotional flyers.

It made Sakiko sigh—if the chat group had come a little earlier, maybe she wouldn't have quit Crychic at all.

Tsunade's tasks were almost all A-rank missions fit for a jōnin:

Investigate recent anomalies in the Grass Village.

Retaliate against the son of a daimyō in a certain country.

Capture a rogue jōnin who defected.

Gather specific intelligence from the Sand Village.

Investigate frequent border crossings—suspected Rain Village spies connected to Root.

Just from the mission descriptions and the requesters' identities, Tsunade could infer all sorts of information about the ninja world… but she couldn't be bothered anymore.

Aisen's list was a stream of "monsters are causing damage" reports:

A lobster monster is rampaging through a seafood market in Z-City.

A massive rat swarm has appeared in the underground pipelines of J-City.

An unidentified aircraft crashed in the outskirts of Q-City.

A serial kidnapping case in B-City may be connected to an esper.

Flocks of monster birds are attacking farms outside D-City.

He skimmed it. All of it fell squarely within the Hero Association's responsibility, so he ignored it.

[Group Owner (Aisen)]: Looks like everyone's tried it. If you have time, you can attempt some tasks and see whether the rewards justify the time investment.

[Group Owner (Aisen)]: Also, even if you don't care about rewards, the task information itself is an extremely valuable source of intelligence.

[Group Owner (Aisen)]: Now, let's move on to the next item. @Group Assistant, continue.

The assistant's information stream connected seamlessly:

[Group Assistant]:Functional Item: Possibility Doppelgänger, concept extracted from [Classic Bento].
