Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 — Dr. Roman: Uh-oh… Why Does This Feel Like It’s My Fault?!

Inside Da Vinci's magecraft workshop in Chaldea.

Mash sat in a swivel chair that looked unbelievably comfortable—her small boot tips barely reached the floor.

Her body swayed gently left and right to a bright rhythm that existed only in her heart, her face unable to hide her excitement.

[Grilled Eggplant (Mash): Everyone, I got super lucky this time! (spinning.gif)]

Nearby, Dr. Roman carefully operated a set of complicated instruments, fine sweat beading at his temples.

Da Vinci, meanwhile, typed rapidly on a support terminal. Every so often she glanced up at the projected torrent of data, her expression focused—with a faint, barely concealed thrill.

They were using the Spiritron Record Chamber to record Mash's Possibility Doppelgänger into spiritronized data.

At last, countless streams of information rolled and converged across the massive ring-shaped screen. A 3D model—nearly identical to Mash—slowly rotated as vital signs poured down like a waterfall.

"Done," Da Vinci said.

She exhaled, elegantly brushed aside a stray lock of hair, and studied the complex spiritron waveform charts flowing across the holographic display.

"With this, even if we ultimately fail to find a way to extend your lifespan, this dataset can serve as the most critical blueprint. If necessary… paired with the Holy Grail, it will be a reliable fallback solution."

Mash stared at the green "upload successful" text on the screen. Joy practically overflowed from her eyes.

She took a deep breath, turned to the chat interface, and decided to share the secret she'd kept buried in her heart for so long:

[Grilled Eggplant (Mash): Actually… I've never told everyone this. As a homunculus, my body has defects. In theory… my lifespan is at most eighteen years. (quietly.jpg)]

Almost instantly, replies appeared.

[Purple Sweet Potato Taro Paste (Kafka): I see. No wonder the group item extracted from Mash was "Willpower Glasses." To face an approaching endpoint with such calm—this resilience is moving beyond words. (admiring.jpg)]

[Classic Lunchbox (Sakiko): But Mash, why didn't you tell the group earlier? This is so important… (worried.jpg)]

Mash hurried to explain:

[Grilled Eggplant (Mash): Mainly because, before, the chat group really was just a chat group! Even if I told everyone, it wouldn't solve anything—it would only make everyone worry and feel sad… so I never managed to say it out loud. (head down, poking fingers.jpg)]

[Group Leader (Aisen): True enough. But luckily, that hidden danger has been dealt with now.]

[Grilled Eggplant (Mash): Yes, yes! (happy.gif)]

Mash's smile brightened, and even the swivel chair rocked a little more.

Being able to share her burden—and seeing a path to a solution—felt wonderful.

Then Rin joined the topic.

[Athletic Lunchbox (Rin): Mash, I remember you said your world has a "Human Order Correction" mechanism, right? It automatically repairs the course of history. And the Human Order Incineration you experienced… sounds like a one-off super-event across all parallel worlds? (thinking.jpg)]

[Athletic Lunchbox (Rin): So is it possible that you weren't "lucky" at all—like you just happened to summon a defect-free doppelgänger? What if it's actually the opposite? What if, except for your unbelievably unlucky timeline that went through Human Order Incineration, every other parallel-world Mash Kyrielight has no lifespan limit in the first place? (wisdom.jpg)]

The moment she read it, Mash's smile froze. Her swaying stopped completely.

Dr. Roman—who'd been keeping most of his attention on Mash—caught the change immediately.

His heart clenched. He set down the data pad at once and leaned in, tense with concern.

"What's wrong, Mash? Did something happen in your chat group? Your face suddenly looks awful."

His voice didn't hide his anxiety at all.

Mash lifted her face with a "my life is a lie" expression and repeated Rin's hypothesis.

Dr. Roman, meanwhile, unconsciously began sorting out the chain of logic.

Back in King Solomon's era, he had helped the former director, Marisbury Animusphere, win the Fourth Holy Grail War—then disguised the outcome as identical to Proper Human History, with the Saber class as the victor.

Without that, the old director could never have secured the enormous funding required to build Chaldea.

And without Chaldea, there would be no need for the Demi-Servant experiment—meaning Mash Kyrielight would never be born as a fatally flawed artificial human.

So, in a "normal" Proper Human History, if a person named Mash Kyrielight existed at all, she would most likely be born in a safer, more natural way—something like IVF—healthy and fully viable.

"Hiss…" Dr. Roman sucked in a sharp breath.

Da Vinci's keen gaze slid off the data streams and landed, meaningfully, on the sweat-soaked, shifty-eyed Dr. Roman beside her.

She picked up the thread, analyzing in a calm voice:

"That hypothesis has a very high likelihood."

Her fingers tapped the control panel, calling up footage related to Chaldeas and the Human Order Incineration.

"The ground zero of that catastrophe was the moment the Demon God Pillar Flauros—disguised as Professor Lev Lainur—blew up Chaldea with a bomb."

She turned to Mash and continued:

"And to achieve Human Order Incineration as the final objective, Flauros had to ensure Chaldea could be successfully established and operate. In other words: in Proper Human History, if Flauros—acting as Professor Lev—didn't provide that key technical support, the Near-Future Observation Lens, SHEBA, then Chaldea could never have been properly founded."

Dr. Roman grew even more drenched in sweat.

Because the root reason Demon God Pillar Flauros could fuse with Lev…

was that he himself had used the Holy Grail after the Fourth Holy Grail War to wish to become human.

That wish caused King Solomon's disappearance and the Demon God Pillars' loss of control, allowing Flauros to masquerade as Professor Lev.

Which meant—

even if the old director gained enough money through a Grail wish to build Chaldea, once Lev's "SHEBA" support was gone, Chaldea still couldn't truly exist.

Uh-oh.

Why does it feel like everything is my fault?!

Da Vinci took in Roman's predicament, a faint amusement flickering in her eyes.

Then, without showing it on her face, she withdrew her gaze and refocused on the Possibility Doppelgänger inside the spiritron inspection chamber.

"Once Chaldea doesn't exist," she said evenly, "there naturally won't be the need—or the conditions—for a Demi-Servant experiment."

Da Vinci pointed to the physiological parameters, genetic profiles, and spiritron data curves jumping on the screen.

"From the data we've obtained so far, this parallel-world Mash Kyrielight wasn't engineered through special genetic adjustments—she wasn't cultivated as a container specifically designed to bear a Heroic Spirit Saint Graph."

"She's closer to an IVF child born under normal medical assistance."

"And her birth… was very likely unrelated to combat, or to saving the Human Order."
