The Lost Vampire System Chapter 34 - Expedition Announcement
"Why did he say that we won't do well?" Henry asked.
"As you may already know if you look around, you'll realize that you all either have one Evolved power, which is no big deal, or that your Evolved power is weak. Now, there may be one or two of you that are okay, but you can blame the weak people that you were paired up with who got you placed here."
Hannah slowly turned her head to look at the group.
"You can't seriously be blaming them, can you?" Damion snapped at her.
"It's their fault," she defended.
"It's the school system's fault," the Nephilim retorted. "They could've paired you with people your level, but they gave you to us. I'd also like to remind you that I am not weak."
Hannah scoffed through her mask as she turned her head back to the front as teacher Carl continued.
"Anyways, every six months all the academies will get together to do a tournament to display your skills to the world and in front of all the faction leaders for a chance to get personally selected by one of them."
There were murmurs in the auditorium, as this was something that they had been warned about by older siblings or had watched part of on TV.
"Yes, yes," teacher Carl continued. "We all know about the tournament, but this year will be different. Sure, we're all still going to the first military base, but for the first time all of the factions will be participating, and because of the sheer amount of people, the collective leaders, along with the creator of NYXIS CyberGirl, have agreed to do the tournament within the game itself."
The class erupted with conversation, while Madison just smirked as she had already known about this.
"Based on your smirk," Jareth said, "this wasn't public information."
The others looked from Jareth to Madison as she nodded.
"When I sold the artifact to CyberGirl, she seemed really grateful, like she really wanted this artifact. So, as a bonus, she told me many things, and this was one of them."
"So, this is the reason why my great-grandma kept telling me to practice in the game and not the real world," Damion said as he smiled. "Maybe I should listen to her more."
"Who was your great-grandma again?" Emma asked.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Damion said.
Hannah scoffed, but Damion paid her no mind. Carl slammed his hand on the table again, which made another loud banging sound, and the class quieted down.
"Wow," Carl said. "That's more efficient than yelling. I'll just keep doing that. Yes, it'll be in NYXIS. Starting tomorrow, the military bases will be building a gaming building in the middle of each group of dorms representing each year's gaming boxes building so students like you can train within the gaming world. The price will remain the same."
There were some loud sighs in the crowd, but teacher Carl just continued as he moved on with his slideshow.
"Now that is out of the way, here is how classes will work. From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., you will come to your homeroom class, which is here. If you don't see the group that you were paired up with, then this probably isn't your class."
A student got up. "That explains why they aren't here," he said and ran out of the room.
Carl chuckled. "There's always one. The other option is that your entire group is in the wrong place. To figure that out, let's take attendance."
Carl went pretty fast through attendance, so everyone was paying close attention. Once they were done, Carl continued.
"Yeah, that idiot was in the wrong place because everyone is here. Now, in your homeroom, I'll give announcements, answer any questions, that sort of thing. Don't ask any…put your hand down."
Carl pointed to a girl at the front who quickly put her hand back down. He then took a sip from his water bottle before going to the next slide.
"Now from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., you will choose from a list of classes based on what you want to do. There isn't really anything to grade, so it doesn't matter if you go back and forth or not. You will miss parts, but just make sure that you go to the class that you believe will help you the most. I doubt it will do you any good."
"Why does he say it like it won't help?" Henry asked as Carl took another sip from his bottle.
"That's because they believe that people at the bottom of the barrel can't improve," Damion answered. "They just placed us together and gave up. The only reason why the system is still trying is because we are still another body that can help for the war effort."
"That's messed up," Jareth commented.
"I agree," Damion agreed.
"The list of classes includes," Carl continued. "Evolved training classes, which can help you learn to use your Evolved power. There is the weapons class, which will teach you how to properly use Becifer weapons. One of you in this class should and needs to take it due to not having an Evolved power."
There were even more murmurs, and Jareth's group tried not to look at Jareth so as not to stir up suspicion.
"You'll just have to figure that out for yourself," Carl chuckled. "There is an elemental Evolved class, since there is a huge portion of students who use elemental Evolved powers or something similar. I believe two more will be added in a week, and I don't know, so don't ask."
Carl eyed the girl that almost raised her hand.
"There will be lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where you can eat or do whatever. After that will be an educational-type class."
The girl raised her hand and asked, "Is this like history, math, and—"
Carl slammed his hand down as he eyed the girl, who jolted at his action. "Didn't I say not to ask questions? So…don't ask…questions!"
She lowered her head as teacher Carl went to the next slide.
"She was probably a know-it-all back at her old school," Madison casually said, and the others just glanced at her.
"And no," the teacher continued. "There is honestly no reason to learn more of that useless stuff. If you hadn't learned what was necessary, then maybe you need to restart that grade. We are talking about general Becifer classes to learn about beasts that roam about other planets in what we call the Becifer solar system. You will also learn about the weird type of dungeons you read about in fantasy books, if you even like that."
Dungeons? Jareth thought as he remembered the bracelet on his wrist. Is it similar to that?
"It's similar in a way," Apollo decided to chime in. "What you have is a dungeon planet, created by a demon or whatever. General dungeons are when whatever energy source that creates the beasts on these planets condenses within a place on a part of the planet and goes down. It creates floors with Becifers within them. Dungeons themselves are fantasy, and unfortunately, I was too worried about other things to be worried about them. I take it that the dungeons seem to be new for the humans as well. Maybe I can learn something or trigger my locked memories."
"Locked memories?" Jareth asked.
"I like how that was the part you asked me about," the god giggled. "When a god gets weak, some random memories will get locked away. I doubt that all of my memories related to dungeons got locked away."
Jareth nodded, which Apollo knew that Jareth understood since he could see through Jareth's eyes.
"Now!" Carl shouted, which got everyone's attention. "I would pay attention because there has been a slight change of plan this year. If you don't live under a rock—"
"I do!" a random student shouted two rows down from their group.
Carl stopped talking as he just stared at the student, who started to shift uncomfortably in his seat. He took a breath before continuing like he had just heard the most questionable joke on the planet.
"So, everyone besides this jokester, you would hear about the Lyrackens being more active and testing our defenses. That is why the higher-ups have decided that there will be a Becifer expedition for the first years on this base on Wednesday and Thursday!"
The class erupted into chaos as everyone began to talk over each other.
"A Becifer expedition?" Henry said as he clenched his legs as he looked at Madison. "Did that Cyber person tell you that?"
Madison had a frown on her face as she shook her head.
"No," she muttered, which could barely be heard by the group. "This might be a last-minute decision."
Carl slammed his hand onto the desk, and on the fourth hit, the auditorium finally stopped talking.
"To be honest, I don't know why they would do that right off the bat," Carl admitted to the class. "Just consider yourselves lucky that you aren't Military Base 67. They didn't get any warning and should be departing from their school right now. They were practically the guinea pigs. At least we have two days to get ready. So, if you want any chance of doing well in the competition or even just surviving…you better pay attention. Class dismissed."
