Chapter 17 - ~*~

The next morning, you walked into school with a blank face. Your friends greeted you. Jungkook looked at you from across the room. You didn't look back. You sat down, pretending to be fine.

But inside, your heart whispered: "This rivalry is over. Now it's just pain. And I don't know how to handle it."

After the chaos of the last days, you made a decision: "I'll ignore him. Completely. No fights, no talks, no eye contact."

So the next morning, you entered class with a calm face. You sat with your group, opened your notebook, and didn't glance at Jungkook even once. He noticed immediately.

He leaned toward his boys, whispering: "Why is she acting like I don't exist?"

They laughed, teasing him: "Bro, maybe she's tired of you."

But Jungkook didn't laugh. His eyes kept flicking toward you, restless.

During the first period, the teacher asked a question. You answered confidently. The teacher praised you. Jungkook smirked, ready to tease… but you didn't even look at him. You just kept writing.

He frowned, tapping his pen. Later, during break, he walked past your desk.

Jungkook: "Y/n, you didn't even look at me today."

You replied calmly: "I didn't notice." Then you turned back to your book.

That single line hit him harder than any fight.

Your group gathered again for the assignment. Sol Hee explained slides, Taesung added points, you wrote neatly. Jungkook sat beside you, trying to join.

Jungkook: "Should I add visuals here?"

You nodded without looking at him.

Jungkook: "Y/n, I'm asking you." You replied shortly: "Do whatever you want."

He sighed, frustrated.

Taesung noticed and whispered: "Bro, she's ignoring you completely."

Jungkook muttered: "I know. And I hate it."

The Temporary Calm

Days passed. You kept ignoring him. No fights, no teasing, no rivalry. The class noticed. Some said: "Wow, Y/n and Jungkook finally stopped fighting." "Maybe they're fine now."

Even you thought: "Yes. Everything is right now. No drama. No pain."

Jungkook grew quieter. He didn't tease you in public anymore. He didn't argue with you in class. It felt like peace.

But peace didn't last.

One afternoon, the teacher announced another group activity. This time, she paired Jungkook with Sol Hee again. The class buzzed with excitement. "Perfect pair!" "They look so good together!"

You froze. Your heart whispered: "Not again…"

During the activity, Jungkook and Sol Hee laughed together, sharing notes. He leaned close to explain something. She smiled brightly. Everyone teased them.

And you realized — Your silence hadn't fixed anything. It had only pushed him closer to her.

After class, Jungkook approached you.

Jungkook: "Why are you ignoring me? You think I don't notice?"

You replied coldly: "You don't need me. You're fine with Sol Hee."

He frowned deeply.

Jungkook: "Stop saying that. I never said I like her."

You looked away.

Y/n: "But you never denied it either."

He froze. For the first time, he had no reply. He just stared at you, restless, frustrated, confused.

That night, you sat alone, staring at your phone. No messages from him. No calls. Just silence.

You whispered to yourself: "I thought ignoring him would make things right. But it only made everything worse."

And somewhere in his room, Jungkook sat with his phone, staring at your chat window, typing and deleting messages again and again. He wanted to break the silence. But he didn't know how.

It was recess. Your girl group sat under the big tree again, laughing and sipping water. Across the ground, Jungkook's boy group lounged near the basketball court, pretending to look cool.

Like last time, they walked over casually. Taesung smiled, starting conversation.

Taesung: "So, Y/n, did you finish the economics notes?" You nodded politely. Jungkook stood nearby, hands in pockets, watching you but not speaking.

The boys sat down near your group. Sol Hee giggled at something Jungkook said. Your friends whispered, teasing. You stayed quiet, pretending to be uninterested.

Then suddenly — you saw him.

Aarav. Your old crush, the senior from 12th , walked across the playground with his friends. Your heart skipped. You hadn't seen him properly since exams.

You quickly stood up, making an excuse.

Y/n: "I need to ask Aarav something about notes." Your group blinked.

The boys froze. Jungkook's eyes narrowed slightly.

You walked away, leaving both groups behind, and went straight to Aarav. He smiled politely.

Aarav: "Hey, Y/n. How are your studies going?" You replied calmly, hiding your nerves.

Y/n: "Good. I just wanted to ask about the syllabus."

He explained kindly, his tone respectful. You felt lighter talking to him — no teasing, no tension. But behind you, Jungkook was watching. Expression unreadable. Jaw tight.

The Late-Night Breakthrough

That night, your phone buzzed again.

 It was Jungkook.

Message: "Why did you walk away today? You ignored me completely."

You stared at the screen.

You typed back: Y/n: "I had something important to ask Aarav. That's all."

Jungkook: "Important? Or just an excuse to avoid me?"

Y/n: "Does it matter? You don't need me anyway."

Jungkook: "Stop saying that. You know I notice you."

Y/n: "Noticed me? You were busy with Sol Hee. I don't care anymore."

Silence. He typed again:

Jungkook: "I don't like this distance. At least fight with me. Don't ignore me."

You replied coldly: Y/n: "No. I'm done. Goodnight."

You put your phone down, heart racing. The tension remained. No breakthrough. Just heavier silence.

The next day, the tension finally broke.

During history class, the teacher asked a question. You answered confidently. Jungkook interrupted, giving a different answer. The teacher frowned, checking both. Your answer was correct. Jungkook's was wrong.

You smirked slightly. Y/n: "See? You always rush without thinking."

Jungkook glared. Jungkook: "At least I try. You act like you're perfect."

Y/n: "Because I prepare. You just show off."

Jungkook: "Show off? You think everything I do is for attention?"

 Y/n: "Yes. And it's irritating."

The class gasped. Everyone turned to watch. The teacher tried to calm you both, but you kept going.

Jungkook: "You're impossible. You don't listen, you don't trust, you just judge."

Y/n: "Better than pretending to care when you don't."

The teacher finally shouted: "Enough! Both of you, sit down!"

You sat, face burning. Jungkook sat too, jaw clenched. The class whispered loudly: "They're fighting again!" "Enemies forever!"

But deep inside, you knew — This wasn't just a fight. It was frustration, jealousy, confusion, and something deeper neither of you wanted to admit.

After class, you walked out quickly. Jungkook stayed behind, staring at your empty seat. His friends teased him, but he didn't reply. He just muttered under his breath: "She doesn't understand me at all."

And you, walking down the corridor, whispered to yourself: "He doesn't understand me either."

The distance had grown wider. The tension heavier. And the rivalry… sharper than ever.

The classroom felt unusually tense. Students whispered about a new announcement from the principal. You sat quietly with your group, pretending to be calm. Jungkook entered late, his usual casual walk, but his eyes flicked toward you. You didn't look back.

The Principal's News

The principal entered with a serious tone. "Class 11, listen carefully. This year, we will select students for the Inter-School Debate Competition. Only the best speakers will represent our school."

Everyone gasped. The teacher added: "From this class, two students will be chosen. Based on performance, confidence, and teamwork."

Your heart skipped. Debate was your strength. But then the teacher looked directly at you… and Jungkook.

Teacher: "Y/n and Jungkook. You two will represent Class 11."

The class exploded with whispers. "Enemies together again!" "This will be chaos!"

You froze. Jungkook smirked slightly, clearly amused.

The Practice Session

Later, the teacher gathered you both in the library for practice. She gave a topic: "Technology: Boon or Curse."

You started confidently: "Technology is a boon. It connects people, spreads knowledge, and improves lives."

Jungkook interrupted: "But it's also a curse. It isolates people, spreads misinformation, and makes us dependent."

You glared. Y/n: "You always contradict me."

Jungkook: "That's the point of debate."

The teacher smiled. "Good. This tension will make your performance strong."

You sighed, frustrated. But secretly, you felt the spark of challenge.

The Corridor Encounter

After practice, you walked out quickly. Jungkook followed, matching your steps.

Jungkook: "You know, we're unbeatable together. Admit it." Y/n: "We're just forced to work together." Jungkook: "Still… you can't deny we make a strong team."

You didn't reply. But your silence said everything.

At home, you sat at your desk, revising notes.

Your phone buzzed.

Message from Jungkook: "Don't prepare too much. Save some energy for me."

You rolled your eyes, typing back: "I don't waste energy. I win."

He replied instantly: "Then let's see who wins tomorrow."

You put your phone down, heart racing. The tension was back — sharper than ever.

Next morning, the class buzzed with excitement. Everyone whispered: "Y/n and Jungkook are representing us!"

"Will they fight on stage or actually win?"

You sat at your desk, calm but burning inside.

Jungkook entered, smirk on his face, eyes locked on you. The rivalry had just reached a new battlefield.
