Seasoned With Love
Season 2 – Episode 24: "What Are We Building?"
Amara's POV
Three days after Adrian showed up.
Three days of Luke thinking.
Which, if you know Luke, means a lot of quiet moments and a lot of coffee.
I found him in the restaurant early that morning staring at numbers on his laptop.
Not restaurant numbers.
Different numbers.
Bigger numbers.
I set two coffees down.
"Luke."
He looked up.
"You're up early."
"You're thinking again."
He closed the laptop slowly.
"That obvious?"
"Yes."
I sat across from him.
"Is it about Adrian?"
Luke nodded.
"Yes."
"What did he say after he left?"
Luke rubbed his hands together thoughtfully.
"He called later."
"And?"
"He wants to bring investors into the training program."
I leaned back slightly.
"That sounds big."
"It is."
I watched his face carefully.
"But you're not excited."
Luke smiled a little.
"I'm cautious."
"Because?"
"Because outside money changes things."
That made sense.
I nodded slowly.
"You don't want the mission to shift."
"Exactly."
I thought about that.
"Did you say no?"
"No."
"Did you say yes?"
"No."
I laughed softly.
"So Luke is… negotiating with the future."
"That's one way to put it."
Just then Rose walked in.
She immediately noticed the energy.
"Alright," she said, setting her bag down. "What are we discussing?"
"Investors," I said.
Rose blinked.
"Oh."
Marcus walked in right behind her.
"Why does that word always mean trouble?"
Luke sighed slightly.
"Because it can."
Rose leaned against the counter.
"Tell us everything."
Luke hesitated.
Then he did something important.
He told the truth.
"Adrian says they want to scale the program. Multiple locations. More funding. More reach."
Marcus whistled.
"That's huge."
Rose looked at Luke.
"What's the catch?"
Luke answered calmly.
"They'll want influence."
Marcus nodded immediately.
"Yeah, that sounds right."
Rose looked at me.
"What do you think?"
I took a moment before answering.
"I think growth is good."
Luke listened closely.
"But," I added, "not if it stops being real."
Luke's expression softened slightly.
"That's exactly my concern."
Marcus crossed his arms.
"So basically this is the moment where Luke decides if he stays local hero or becomes something bigger."
Luke shook his head.
"It's not about ego."
Rose nodded.
"It's about control versus purpose."
Marcus looked impressed.
"Rose, that was deep."
She shrugged.
"I'm observant."
I looked at Luke again.
"What does your gut say?"
Luke thought carefully before answering.
"My gut says this could help a lot of people."
"And?"
"And it could also ruin what we're building if it moves too fast."
I nodded.
"That sounds like the Luke I know."
Rose studied him for a moment.
"You're different now."
Luke smiled slightly.
"People keep saying that."
Marcus grinned.
"You used to say yes to expansion immediately."
Luke nodded.
"That's true."
"So what changed?" Marcus asked.
Luke glanced at me.
"Perspective."
Rose smiled knowingly.
"Marriage did that."
I nudged Luke playfully.
"You were evolving before the wedding."
Luke chuckled.
"Fair."
Then something unexpected happened.
The door opened again.
And Adrian walked in.
Marcus sighed.
"Speak of the investor."
Adrian raised a hand.
"I come in peace."
Rose crossed her arms.
"That's still undecided."
Adrian laughed slightly.
"Fair."
Luke stood up.
"I was actually going to call you."
Adrian nodded.
"Good timing then."
I watched them carefully.
This wasn't tension exactly.
But it was important.
Luke gestured toward the table.
"Sit."
Adrian sat.
Marcus whispered to Rose,
"This feels like a negotiation scene."
Rose whispered back,
"It absolutely is."
Luke looked directly at Adrian.
"I've been thinking about your proposal."
Adrian nodded.
"And?"
"I'm interested."
Marcus blinked.
"Well that was fast."
Luke held up a finger.
"With conditions."
Adrian smiled.
"I figured."
Luke leaned forward slightly.
"No controlling stake."
Adrian nodded slowly.
"Okay."
"No changing the mission of the program."
"Understood."
"And," Luke added, glancing briefly at me, "Amara is involved in every decision."
Adrian looked at me with new respect.
"That makes sense."
Marcus whispered loudly,
"Power couple."
Rose elbowed him.
Adrian leaned back slightly.
"You've changed, Luke."
Luke didn't argue.
"I told you."
Adrian nodded.
"Honestly… I like this version better."
I smiled a little.
"Me too."
Adrian looked around the restaurant again.
"You know what the interesting part is?"
"What?" Marcus asked.
"This place has something most expansions lose."
Rose tilted her head.
"What's that?"
"Heart."
Luke didn't say anything.
But I could tell that mattered to him.
Adrian continued,
"If we do this right… we protect that."
Luke nodded slowly.
"That's the only way I'll do it."
Adrian stood up.
"Then we should start planning."
Marcus looked shocked.
"Wait… this is happening?"
Rose smiled.
"Oh yeah."
I looked at Luke.
"Are we ready for this?"
Luke thought for a moment.
Then he answered honestly.
"We're ready if we stay us."
I smiled.
"That we can do."
Adrian headed for the door.
"Alright. I'll send over the details."
Then he paused.
"Oh, and Luke?"
Luke looked up.
"This is going to attract attention."
Marcus muttered,
"That sounds dramatic."
Adrian smiled slightly.
"It's reality."
After he left, the room went quiet again.
Rose looked at Luke.
"You realize what this means, right?"
Luke nodded.
"Yes."
Marcus asked,
"What does it mean?"
Rose answered before Luke could.
"It means their world just got bigger again."
I looked at Luke.
"You okay with that?"
Luke looked at me.
"As long as Amara is still walking beside me."
I smiled.
"Always."
But deep down… I had a feeling this next step was going to test us in ways we hadn't faced yet.
And something about the way Adrian said attention…
Made me think the past might not be done with Luke just yet.
