Seasoned With Love
Season 2 – Episode 27: "What People See"
Amara's POV
The article dropped early in the morning.
Before the restaurant opened.
Before the coffee even finished brewing.
Rose texted first.
Rose:
Have you seen it yet?
Which is never a calm message.
I opened the link.
And there it was.
Daniel's final piece.
The headline read:
"Luke Bennett: A Man Who Had to Learn the Hard Way."
I sat back slowly.
Luke walked into the kitchen right then.
"Morning."
I looked at him.
"Luke."
He immediately noticed the tone.
"What happened?"
I turned the phone toward him.
"Daniel published the final story."
Luke read it quietly.
No reaction at first.
Just focus.
Marcus rushed in seconds later.
"Okay I'm here, everyone relax—"
He stopped when he saw us reading.
"Oh. It's already out."
Rose came in behind him.
"I brought pastries for emotional support."
Marcus nodded.
"Smart."
Luke finally spoke.
"It's… fair."
That surprised me.
"Fair?"
Rose leaned over to read.
Marcus read over her shoulder.
The article wasn't an attack.
But it wasn't a glowing redemption story either.
It talked about Luke's past decisions.
The company collapse.
The pressure he used to put on people.
But it also showed the present.
The restaurant.
The training program.
Interviews with staff.
Marcus pointed.
"Hey, I'm in here."
Rose laughed.
"They quoted you saying Luke is 'intense but loyal.'"
Marcus nodded proudly.
"That sounds right."
Then Rose read the final paragraph out loud.
"Luke Bennett doesn't pretend he was always the man he is now. The difference is that he stayed long enough to become someone better."
The restaurant went quiet for a second.
Luke didn't say anything.
But I could see something settle inside him.
Rose looked at him.
"That's actually a strong ending."
Marcus nodded.
"Yeah, that could've been worse."
I looked at Luke.
"How do you feel?"
Luke answered honestly.
"Relieved."
That made sense.
Rose smiled.
"Well… the city officially knows your story now."
Marcus stretched his arms.
"So does this mean the drama is over?"
Right on cue, the door opened.
And Daniel walked in.
Marcus groaned.
"I spoke too soon."
Daniel approached calmly.
"I figured I should stop by."
Luke nodded.
"I read it."
Daniel studied him carefully.
"And?"
Luke answered simply.
"You told the truth."
Daniel looked almost surprised.
"That's what I try to do."
Rose leaned against the counter.
"You didn't destroy him."
Daniel shook his head.
"That wasn't the goal."
Marcus crossed his arms.
"Then what was the goal?"
Daniel answered thoughtfully.
"To see if the change was real."
Luke asked quietly,
"And what did you decide?"
Daniel looked around the restaurant.
Then toward the kitchen.
Then back at Luke.
"I think it is."
That moment mattered more than I expected.
Not because of the article.
But because someone from Luke's past said it out loud.
Marcus nodded slowly.
"Well… that's big."
Rose smiled slightly.
"I like this ending."
Daniel shook his head.
"It's not an ending."
That caught my attention.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
Daniel looked at Luke.
"This kind of story doesn't stop here."
Luke understood immediately.
"You mean attention."
Daniel nodded.
"Yes."
Marcus sighed.
"I miss the quiet days."
Rose laughed.
"Those days are gone."
Daniel added,
"People are already talking about the training program."
Luke folded his arms thoughtfully.
"That was always the point."
Daniel nodded.
"And now people are watching to see if it works."
I looked at Luke.
"You okay with that?"
Luke looked at me first before answering.
"Yes."
Daniel smiled slightly.
"That's the right answer."
Then he did something unexpected.
He extended his hand.
Luke shook it.
No tension this time.
Just acknowledgment.
Daniel said one last thing before leaving.
"Keep building something real."
Luke nodded.
"That's the plan."
After Daniel left, Marcus let out a long breath.
"Well… that was a whole season of stress."
Rose laughed.
"Literally."
I looked at Luke.
"You handled that well."
Luke shrugged slightly.
"I had good support."
Rose pointed.
"Marriage bonus."
Marcus grinned.
"Power couple again."
I leaned closer to Luke.
"You ready for what comes next?"
Luke thought for a moment.
Then he said something that made me smile.
"Let's see what the city does now."
And honestly?
I had a feeling the city was about to respond in a big way.
Because sometimes…
When people see the truth of a story…
They decide to become part of it.
