Chapter 15 - A New Day

The next day, back at the hospital, Elion eagerly awaited the arrival of critically ill patients so he could begin working.

In the conference room, Chase was skillfully solving a crossword puzzle, while Foreman remained seated in his chair, bored and lost in thought.

Cameron, sitting in front of her computer, frowned as she looked at the emails she had received.

Elion genuinely considered whether this department would be ideal in the long term to treat the symptoms of his illness.

"Tell me, who was the one who hit you?" Foreman, who had noticed Elion's black eye, asked to satisfy his curiosity.

"A woman?"

"Why would you ask that?" Cameron didn't understand Chase's focus on that question.

"Well, just look at Elion's appearance, I'm sure he was quite popular with the girls back in college." Chase, as if he himself weren't attractive, gestured toward Elion's looks with a smile.

Cameron shook her head and muttered, "It seems they're of the same species."

"Arrogant and handsome, a pretty bad combination…" Foreman agreed.

Elion, who approached with a cup of coffee, said, "I'll tell you, but promise me that nothing I say here will get out."

"The one who hit me was… Baba Yaga!" Elion dropped this information and focused on everyone's expressions.

Foreman, who for a moment had been paying attention, immediately lost interest and said, "I would've believed you if you said a beautiful ex had come to beat you up for being an asshole."

"Yeah, honestly that's way more believable." Chase agreed with Foreman.

Cameron, who was the only woman in the room, shook her head. "Men…"

Elion, who had expected to shock his superiors with that information, fell silent in a corner.

Everyone seemed to be doing nothing.

Then he realized that this seemed to be the norm in the diagnostics department.

There are many difficult and complicated diseases in the world, but there are certainly days when there is nothing to do.

The doctors in the diagnostics department are always on standby and are not assigned any other tasks.

So all they could do was wait there, bored.

But what they were waiting for was something Elion truly could not afford to wait for.

Elion's life continued to decrease with every passing moment; continuing to wait was nothing more than watching death draw closer.

That was why, among everyone there, Elion looked at Cameron, who seemed hesitant as she stared at her emails, and remembered that many difficult cases were discovered through emails, but House deliberately ignored these messages.

Cameron, who could respond to House's emails, was kind-hearted and couldn't bear to see others beg for help.

Therefore, Cameron must have been struggling with the decision of whether or not to forge House's signature to schedule an appointment with the patient.

With this in mind, Elion stood up and walked over to Cameron's side, adding a weight that could influence the balance: "It's a huge waste of resources to leave medical elites doing nothing. I think we should reduce Dr. House's workload."

"Did you call me an elite?" Foreman felt inexplicably happy.

"How flattering…" Chase, absorbed in his crossword, didn't look up.

Cameron, on the other hand, turned around and looked at the intern in astonishment.

In her memory, on days when there were no patients, this intern would hide somewhere and slack off, and they wouldn't see him until lunchtime and the end of his shift.

Since yesterday, this intern, Elion, seemed to have completely changed and had become extremely proactive.

Seeing Cameron's surprised look, Elion smiled. "Don't worry, House will be very interested in difficult cases that challenge him to solve."

Cameron thought for a moment, made a decision, and began replying to emails.

After hearing Elion's words, Foreman, who was still happy from the earlier compliment, couldn't resist trying to find some entertainment. "Intern, you've only been here a few days and you already think you know everything about House?"

"Do you want to bet?"

"What kind of bet?" Foreman became interested.

"I'll bet you whatever you want that House won't blame Cameron if she takes a case on her own." Elion, who until yesterday had no money, decisively pulled out one hundred dollars.

"One hundred dollars?" Foreman thought for a moment before deciding whether to accept.

"I'll take the bet." Chase, who had finished his crossword, accepted.

"Fine."
