Chapter 16 - New Case

Elion, who accepted the bet, looked at Foreman with considerable confidence. "Are you in? Two against one, that seems fair to me."

"Ha, the two of us against an intern would make me feel bad about beating you." Foreman hesitated to accept the bet simply because that amount of money was considerable for an intern who doesn't have a real salary.

"You can learn from mistakes, can't you? Didn't you say that before?" Elion, of course, didn't let up, nor did he consider that Foreman was currently taking his financial situation into account.

Before Elion could continue speaking, Foreman, who had lost his patience, interrupted him and said, "Fine, I'll bet. I hope you don't regret it after you lose!"

"It's unprofessional to bet on everything that moves in front of your eyes," Cameron said after realizing that they all stank based on their decision.

"Just have a little fun, there's absolutely no problem betting on something like this." Foreman seemed relaxed.

"Sharing happiness is worse than enjoying it alone. It all comes down to participation. Cameron, why don't you try too?" Chase tempted Cameron to bet as well.

Cameron, after replying to an email, looked at Elion and said, "I don't have as much money as you do. I bet 100 dollars that House won't get angry."

Upon hearing Cameron's bet, Foreman smiled and said, "Well, Chase and I will accept your money. We'll invite you to dinner on some free day we have."

Cameron shook her head and asked, "What? Are you already convinced that House will get furious over this? I don't think so."

Foreman chuckled and said nothing more.

He had long since decided that House was a bastard, and since he was a bastard, House wouldn't miss anything a bastard would do.

Before long, an angry House pushed open the door to the diagnostics department and walked in.

"When did my signature become so feminine? Oh, I might be the only one here without vision problems. Did you see this H? Why is it drawn like a circle on top?

This isn't my handwriting at all. Do you know what I was thinking?"

"The person who can write in this font must be a lesbian, right?"

Upon hearing House's angry roar, Foreman and Chase exchanged a smile.

House's performance was exactly what they had expected.

Foreman even shot Elion a look of pity. Two hundred dollars is a large amount for an intern.

For someone like Elion, that could be everything he had.

But Foreman didn't see the face he expected, contorted with regret and pain, on Elion.

Elion simply sat there calmly, listening to House's complaints.

However, Cameron couldn't help but explain to House: "Let me explain. You're too busy. It's practically impossible to reach you through normal channels, so I just gave it a little push."

"They tried everything: phone calls, emails, and even coming to the clinic in person…"

Upon hearing how much this family had sacrificed for their diagnosis, the anger on House's face gradually diminished.

"Persistence doesn't mean they deserve my attention; I only pay attention to diseases that other hospitals can't cure."

"Next time you want to get my attention, you'd better try something more revealing with your clothes, like some sexy low-rise jeans."

Cameron completely ignored House's trash talk and said, "A sixteen-year-old patient presents with double vision and night terrors of unknown cause. He has visited several hospitals, but the cause hasn't been found…"

Hearing this, House immediately became interested and interrupted, "Night terrors? Like seeing scenes from a horror movie?"

"Yes."

Upon hearing this, House immediately grabbed his cane, stood up, and left.

Cameron asked, somewhat confused, "Where are you going?"

As House walked, he said, "Normally I don't like talking to patients, but what about night terrors in a sixteen-year-old? This could involve a violation issue, and I need to talk to him in person."

"Well done, Cameron."

"'Well done'?" Cameron, however, showed a look of joy.

But Foreman's expression, as he followed behind, was not good. He never expected things to take such a turn in the end.

Surprisingly, House didn't get angry because Cameron forged his signature to schedule patient appointments.

That meant he lost! He lost 200 dollars to Elion and Cameron!

Elion smiled, followed him closely, and whispered, "Looks like I'll be the one buying dinner, right?"

As someone who came from a wealthy family, Chase didn't care; he just felt a little frustrated. "Of course, I have no reason to deny my debt."

"Foreman, what kind of food do you prefer?"

Foreman replied coldly, "Meat, top quality."

"Alright, I'll take you to the restaurant near where I live." Elion had no problem with Foreman's pretentious requests.

Soon, the group followed House into an empty consultation room.

There, they met a family of three.

The boy sat nervously on the examination chair, while his parents looked worried.

House looked at the parents before personally examining the upper part of the boy's body.

After examining the young man's eyes, House set the instrument down.

"The edges are in good condition, there's no damage, and the color is nice. Well, there are only two possible causes of night terrors in a teenager."

"Dan, do you get hurt frequently in fights, or were you attacked at school?"

Dan shook his head and said, "No."

"Ah, then there's the other possibility. Has anyone sexually harassed you? Your teacher? Or an apparently friendly neighbor? Or maybe your parents?"

"I doubt your parents would admit that, honestly…" After he said those words, most of the people present changed their expressions.

If true, this would be an extremely serious accusation. Dan's parents, including Dan himself, immediately denied the claim.

Then Dan revealed the truth: "I have an external injury; I suffered a head injury during a lacrosse game. However, even before the injury, I had occasionally been experiencing double vision."

House shook his head, leaned on his cane, and prepared to leave. "If you were seeing double before the injury, that means you should buy yourself some glasses, kid. You should see an ophthalmologist, not me."

"Wait, Dr. House, listen to me…" Dan's father immediately tried to stop House from leaving.

But House simply said, "If you don't believe my diagnosis, why do you need to come see me? I already made a diagnosis, that's it."

But just as House was about to walk out the door, Elion suddenly blocked his path and pointed at Dan's leg hanging beneath the chair. "Are his legs moving involuntarily?"
