Chapter 14 - A Silent Home

"Who?" Elion, still tense from the events he had just lived through, pulled out his pistol and aimed it at the person behind him.

"What the hell are you doing, Elion?" A girl his age, in her underwear, looked at Elion in disbelief.

"What?"

"Are you high? Why the hell are you using a gun?"

"What are you doing in my house?" Elion recognized the woman who was in his apartment, because she was his friend and study partner, Trinity, who now worked as an intern in the emergency department.

"Is that a problem?" Trinity ignored Elion's weapon and walked toward the kitchen to grab a bottle of water.

Elion lowered the gun, hid it, and did the same with his medication, then asked, "Sorry, the streets haven't been safe lately, so I was being careful… Forget it, how was your first day?"

"It was a complete shitshow, lots of dead people and, as if that weren't enough, I stabbed my superior with a scalpel." Trinity recalled that incident and seriously asked, "Where is your gun? I think I should shoot myself."

Elion, who took off his clothes, walked toward his bedroom, not before leaving the overdue rent money on the table. He knew Trinity didn't care; they had even had sex before.

Although it wasn't really Elion who was in a strange relationship with this woman, he didn't mind at all being involved with her.

His concern was his future, the things that awaited him and what he had to become with all of them.

"Did you eat anything?" Trinity asked from the kitchen.

"No." Elion, who was feeling the effects of the painkillers he had taken, replied slightly exhausted.

"I don't care what shit you're involved in, but you should eat something." Trinity brought a sandwich to Elion, who was already asleep.

She, seeing that he had fallen asleep, took the sandwich and began to eat it. Then, her gaze dropped to Elion's clothes, which were actually covered in blood.

Her gaze then lifted again and she looked at Elion, who had been acting very strange for a week now. She thought it was due to the workload, but now that she had confirmed it with her own eyes, things had to be a bit more complex.

"Well, whatever it is, you'll fix it." Trinity thought after realizing that Elion's life was not in her hands.

As Elion's only friend, Trinity knew him much better than even some of his ex-girlfriends. She knew that whatever the problem was, he would solve it, and receiving any kind of help would greatly annoy him.

Even knowing that, she came today to check on her friend's apartment after not hearing from him for a week.

She thought he would be fine, exhausted from the workload, but when she arrived at the apartment, the landlord bombarded her with questions about when Elion would pay the rent.

Upon learning that the rent had not been paid, which was very strange simply because Elion didn't have money problems, she became genuinely worried.

But now, seeing him return, she thought that whatever it was, Elion was already working on solving it.

"If you need help, don't forget to ask me." Trinity closed the door and prepared to go to sleep.

The emergency department was much more exhausting than diagnostics; the emotions one becomes involuntarily involved in are extreme, and if they make a mistake, no matter how small it may seem, the lives of patients as well as those of their colleagues can be in danger.

Today Trinity spent her first day as an intern and it was absolute madness, which is why she needed to rest and stop worrying too much about things that Elion had under control.

"The value of life always matters…"

Elion, who was lying on his bed in a deep sleep, was having what was a peculiar nightmare. In it, he was in a class about the value of life.

In life, one is a small ant that is learning new things.

The ant can be male or female, gender doesn't matter; what matters in life is what you will do with it in the future.

An ant can become someone important in life, be a hero who saves millions of lives or a villain who kills dozens.

The value of life weighs in that regard, and the power that keeps Elion alive is a life meter.

If he saves someone who will influence the world for good or for evil, the weight of life becomes stronger and he gains more days of life.

If Elion's involvement saves that person, then the reward he will receive will be generous.

On the other hand, if his involvement changes nothing, then there will be no reward.

On the other hand, if the life he saves will not influence anything in life, the reward will be common.

Elion was upset, who can give value to life?

Is that a good being or an evil one?

If he saves people in order to keep living, is his desire to serve insignificant? If he combines selfishness with the desire to live, what will he really become?

Elion, although he didn't give importance to these things, little by little a demon was forming inside him.
