[ Emergency Quest Initiated - A D-rank blue portal has opened nearby. Clear the portal to prevent it from opening and keep your brother safe. Reward: Instant level up, and one new skill will be unlocked. ]
Well looks like I have to figure out a way to solve this problem, who knows what will happen if I fail an emergency quest.
"Uh Ben, I'm just going to go to the bathroom. Need to answer a phone call."
Aria left for the bathroom, trying to find a way to slip out unnoticed. Not seeing an exit near the back, she went into the bathroom and locked the door.
Well its now or never.
[ Celestial Cloak Skill - User is able to refract the light surrounding the body to appear invisible to the naked eye. Costs 10 AP per 1 minute of use. ]
It's time to try out this skill.
[ Activating Celestial Cloak ]
Within a split second, Aria went invisible. She looked in the mirror and saw nothing. Well this worked better than I thought it would.
Aria carefully opened the bathroom door and walked towards the front entrance. She avoided waiters and the chairs trying to not alert anyone. Arriving at the door, she thought It would be weird if the front door opened all on its own so she waited nearby for someone to enter. Thankfully someone soon came to pick up their takeout order. As they entered the door, Aria snuck behind them making it out of the building. After moving to a nearby alley, she deactivated her skill and became visible once again.
"Now where could the portal be?" She walked past the nearby buildings, looking between them for any sign of the portal. Soon she heard a scream come from an apartment building across the road. Aria jogged closer and saw a woman through the clear glass door, staring at something with horror. Opening the front door to the lobby entrance, she entered and immediately saw what had alarmed the woman.
A blue portal lay at the entrance of the apartment building stairwell. The woman getting over her shock, left the building trying to get far away. Seeing no one else around, Aria stepped through the portal.
The opposite side of the portal was once again quite dark, Aria activated her light sphere right away. Looking around she saw a cave like room with multiple tunnels leading from it.
"Well here we go." She walked slowly down the tunnel furthest to the right. A little further down she heard a scuttle like noise come from up ahead.
The scuttling got louder until about a dozen spider like creatures came into view. They were no bigger than a basketball on their own, but in a group they were terrifying.
Aria recognized these as Cave or Dungeon Spiders. The first spiders were already in front of her, crawling closer by the second.
Aria stomped onto the spider closest to her causing it to instantly die. Crushed to death.
[ 20 Exp earned ]
Aria continued by crushing the first wave this way. She was thoroughly disgusted but she had to kill them somehow. She expected a nice evening with her brother and didn't think to bring along her new daggers. Those daggers will not leave my side after this, she thought after squashing another spider underneath her sneaker. And these shoes are going into the garbage after today!
Within a few more minutes, all the spiders were defeated. There were 13 spiders in total which earned her 260 Exp in total.
[ Exp: 300/600 -> 560/600 ]
"Portals are the best way to level up though."
Aria was confused about something though, these spiders were too weak. This was a D-rank portal, so where were the tough monsters?
Continuing down the cave tunnel again, Aria heard the same scuttling noise from futher down. Again?! Indeed, more spiders were coming down the tunnel.
This time, there were closer to twenty spiders. Aria continued what she did previously, by squishing them all through her sheer strength. She despised it nonetheless.
This time Aria killed 18 spiders in total adding 360 Exp.
[ Congrats - User has leveled up ]
[ Level 3 -> 4 ]
[ Exp: 560/600 -> 320/800 ]
"Not that I am complaining, but this is too easy." Aria couldn't help but feel something was wrong, a unsettled feeling continued to creep up on her.
Following the tunnel even further, she reached an opening at the end. Knowing that this is usually where an ambush happens, Aria went with her previous tactic of throwing the light sphere into the room.
After a few seconds though, nothing happened. No monsters dropped and no noise either. Not wanting to waste any more time, Aria summoned her trusty star piercer in her one hand and a new light sphere in the other. She stepped into the room, being extremely cautious as she looked all around her. Suddenly from the ceiling, something massive dropped to the ground in front of her.
A black mound stood in front of her, slowly eight beady red eyes opened nearby the top of the mound. After, eight legs came out from the monster as it lifted itself up from the ground.
A Spider Queen. Aria's eyes went wide with horror. This shouldn't be here. From her studies, she learned this monster is typically a boss in a C-rank portal.
The Spider Queen started moving closer to Aria, its long powerful legs threatened to trample her. Well isn't that ironic, I was doing the squashing earlier, but now I may get smooshed.
One of the spider legs aimed for Aria, she jumped to the side and rolled out of the way. Right away the spider tried again, its legs close to hitting her.
Aria saw the next leg coming and tried to dodge again, though this time she was a tad bit late. The leg scraped against Aria's back. Blood began to seep from her wound, while it wasn't life threatening, it would hinder her movements.
[ HP: 100/100 -> 70/100 ]
Aria in a moment of quick thinking, fed more energy into her light sphere causing it to become much bigger. The bigger it got, the more bright it became. Soon it was blinding, she threw it towards the face of the massive spider. The spider screeched as its eight eyes were assaulted by the light. Aria took the chance and threw her star piercer at the monster. After being hit with the light sphere, the Spider Queen flailed around causing Aria's star piercer to only scrape the belly of the beast.
Aria summoned another star piercer, it's time to end this.
