Chapter 34 - Minster

"Why even bother running? Just shout once and everyone will come. No matter what, I'm still the Deputy City Lord of Sargoth. I should have at least this much authority, right?" Jason said to Kaladi.

As soon as he finished speaking, Jason rushed toward the door and shouted loudly, "Guards! There are assassins!"

Seeing that the situation had gone bad, Nord immediately led his brothers charging straight at Kaladi. His plan was simple—defeat Kaladi first, then escape.

But in the end, they were still outmatched. On top of that, with Mati assisting Kaladi, even in a four-versus-six fight, they were not at a disadvantage at all.

Before long, Minster—the man responsible for allocating military authority in Sargoth—arrived in Jason's room with a large group of soldiers.

"Who dares! To openly attempt an assassination inside Sargoth's castle—are you tired of living? Drop your weapons at once!"

Minster had a dignified, square-shaped face, and his build was tall and imposing. Though his temples had already begun to gray, he still carried the bearing of a great general.

When Nord saw Minster arrive with troops, he knew it was over. There was no escaping now—they were definitely going to be captured.

Nord threw the sword in his hand onto the ground and raised both hands. He shot a vicious glare at that dumbfounded kid, grinding his teeth so hard he almost shattered them.

If that brat hadn't opened his mouth earlier, Jason might already be a corpse by now. Instead, all of them had ended up captured.

Seeing that Nord had already dropped his sword, Minster gave the order, "Men! Take all of them!"

The soldiers behind Minster surged forward and seized Nord and his group.

Minster then walked over to Jason and asked, "Young Master, are you hurt?"

Jason waved his hand, pretending to be calm. "I'm fine, I'm fine. And you are…?" He looked at Minster, feeling that the man seemed unfamiliar.

"Oh, I suppose you haven't met me yet, Young Master. I am the commander of Sargoth's army, directly under your father's authority. In Sargoth, anyone who wants to mobilize troops must first obtain my approval," Minster explained.

"So this is the pawn my father planted here," Jason thought to himself. "Looks like my father isn't completely stupid after all—he still left himself a backup."

Minster walked over to Nord and roughly tore off the mask covering his face.

After taking a closer look, Minster recognized him. His expression turned solemn as he questioned Nord, "So it's you, brat? Speak! Why did you want to assassinate the Young Master?"

Nord stammered nervously for a long time, but couldn't get a single word out.

"Not talking, huh? Men! Drag him out and execute him!" Minster shouted.

The moment Nord heard this, he panicked completely and hurriedly yelled, "Wait! Wait! I want to see Lord Kelida! I want to see the City Lord!"

"Why is it so noisy in the middle of the night? Who wants to see me?"

At that moment, Kelida just happened to walk in.

When Nord saw Kelida, it was as if he had seen hope for survival. He immediately shouted, "City Lord! Save me!"

"City Lord, you arrived just in time. Your attendant attempted to assassinate the Young Master and was captured by us. I wonder if you know anything about this matter?"

Minster asked Kelida. Based on his understanding of Kelida, he was almost certain that this incident had something to do with him.

"What? I've treated you so well, and you still dared to do something like this behind my back!"

Kelida put on a furious act as he scolded Nord.

"My lord… I didn't!" Nord cried out.

At this point, Nord was completely stuck, not knowing what to say. It felt like no matter what he said, death awaited him. He nervously swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

Suddenly, Kelida's eyes widened, revealing endless killing intent. He coldly said, "Die."

In the next second, everyone present only saw a flash of yellow light. Kelida's sword had already sealed Nord's throat. Blood splattered across the floor, and even Jason couldn't help but feel a chill run through him.

To be enemies with such a ruthless man—was that really a good thing? Jason sucked in a cold breath as he thought this to himself.

After dealing with Nord, Kelida finally let out a sigh of relief. What he feared most was Nord selling him out. If Minster found out about this, he would be in serious trouble.

Kelida sheathed his sword and turned his gaze toward Jason.

However, his face was still filled with intense killing intent that hadn't yet faded. Jason shuddered uncontrollably and instinctively hid behind Kaladi.

Kelida's gaze followed and landed on Kaladi. He carefully sized him up and said with some surprise, "I didn't expect you to be a B-rank Rage Warrior. Not bad. With you protecting my younger brother, I can finally rest easy. Lord Minster, it seems the castle's night security is rather lacking. This is your responsibility."

Minster snorted lightly, his words carrying hidden meaning. "As the saying goes, it's easy to guard against outsiders by day, but hard to guard against thieves from within at night. I hope the City Lord can manage his people well and prevent such incidents from happening again."

Kelida smiled without warmth and replied, "Rest assured, my lord. I will keep my people in check."

"Alright, it's getting late. Everyone should go rest. I'm done for—I can barely keep my eyes open. Little brother, I'll be heading off first."

After saying that to Jason, Kelida hurriedly left the room.

Minster exchanged a few polite words with Jason as well before leaving.

"You should rest, Young Master. I'll stand guard for you tonight," Kaladi said to Jason.

Jason glanced at the chaotic room. Although the bloodstains on the floor had already been cleaned up, he still felt an eerie chill in his heart.

He complained to Kaladi, "How am I supposed to sleep here? Someone just died in this room, and he was even trying to kill me! Now that he's a ghost, won't it be even easier for him to come after me?"

Jason unconsciously revealed his cowardly side.

"Haha, Young Master, aren't you being a bit too timid? He couldn't kill you when he was alive—let alone now that he's dead," Mati said without even thinking.

"Uh…" After hearing Mati's words, Jason couldn't help but blush.

"Let's go rest in Kaladi's room instead," Jason suggested in the end, still unable to overcome the fear in his heart.

"That's no problem at all. The bed here is already broken anyway—it's not usable. Young Master, please stay in my room for the night," Kaladi said.

Jason nodded and immediately left the room, heading to Kaladi's quarters to rest.

Kaladi and Mati also volunteered to stand guard at the door to protect Jason.

Not long after, the door creaked open with a zhi-ya sound, and Jason poked his head out from inside.

Kaladi immediately asked, "Young Master, what's wrong?"

Jason hesitated and stammered, "Um… well…"
