Jason stammered and said, "Um… well, that thing…"
Kaladi frowned in confusion and looked at Jason, asking, "What?"
Ma Ti was also staring at Jason, thinking he was about to say something important.
Jason took a deep breath and continued, "I mean… could you two come in and sleep together with me?"
"Uh…" Kaladi and Ma Ti were both left speechless. They had thought Jason was going to say something serious—turns out it was just this.
Kaladi hesitated for a moment, then said awkwardly to Jason, "Well, Young Lord… I'm straight."
Ma Ti echoed from the side, "Me too."
"What are you two even thinking?" Jason said helplessly. "I'm just a bit scared being alone. I only wanted you two to come in and chat with me!"
"No other intentions?" Ma Ti added at the worst possible moment.
Jason immediately got a bit annoyed.
"Damn it! What intentions could I possibly have? I was a playboy once, okay? My orientation is perfectly normal!" Jason said, not forgetting to kick Ma Ti afterward.
Seeing Jason like this, Kaladi couldn't help but smile and said, "Alright, alright, we won't tease you anymore. Let's go in and keep you company."
Fortunately, the bed in the room was fairly spacious. The three of them lay side by side on the bed, still fully clothed.
Not long after lying down, Ma Ti fell asleep, and thunderous snoring filled the room.
With someone beside him this time, Jason felt a bit more at ease. But Ma Ti's snoring was really too loud, making it impossible to fall asleep. Unconsciously, Jason began to think about the dream he had just had.
He had dreamed about his wedding night with his wife.
That night, she had been so beautiful. In that moment, he had silently sworn to protect her for the rest of his life. He had naively believed she would spend her whole life with him.
Who would have thought that just half a year after their marriage, she would end up with another man—and even help that man steal his work.
Even now, when Jason thought about it, his heart still ached faintly.
"Kaladi," Jason turned his head and called out.
"Hm? What's wrong, Young Lord?" Kaladi turned his head as well and asked.
"Nothing much. I just can't sleep and wanted to chat with you," Jason said calmly, resting his hands behind his head.
Kaladi had also been disturbed by Ma Ti's snoring and wasn't sleepy either. He replied, "Sure, Young Lord. What would you like to talk about?"
Jason paused slightly before asking, "I want to ask you—when you found out that the woman you deeply loved had already gone with someone else, what were you thinking at that moment?"
Kaladi glanced at Jason, gave a bitter smile, and said, "My lord, are you trying to tear open my old wounds and make me resent you again?"
"Of course not. And I think you've already let it go by now. You also understand that she never knew how much you gave up for her, isn't that right?" Jason waved his hand and asked.
Kaladi smiled and shook his head, then let out a deep sigh."Sigh… You're right, Young Lord. I have indeed let it go now. But when I first found out she abandoned me just to climb up to you, I completely broke down. For several days, the only things keeping me company were despair and unwillingness."
As he spoke, Kaladi felt his nose grow sour. Afraid that his tears would fall, he quickly rubbed his nose, forcing back the tears welling up in his eyes.
"I understand how you felt. I've been through something like that too. Back then, it felt like I had lost everything—as if the whole world had abandoned me," Jason said to Kaladi.
Kaladi gave a bitter smile and said, "How could you possibly have experienced something like that? Who would dare betray you?"
His tone was full of disbelief.
Jason continued, "How could there not be? She betrayed me after we had already become a family. And the most ironic part was that I only found out after she'd been betraying me for half a year."
"Really? I didn't expect the Young Lord to have been so devoted once," Kaladi said with a smile.
Jason smiled and shook his head. "There are a lot of things about me you don't know."
And so, under the background music-like snoring of Ma Ti, Jason and Kaladi talked freely all night long.
The sun slowly climbed up from behind the mountains, using its light to drive away the darkness.
"Ah~! That was such a comfortable sleep!" Ma Ti stretched on the bed and yawned.
He rubbed his eyes and sat up, only to find that Jason and Kaladi were already awake, staring at him.
"Yo! Young Lord, you two woke up pretty early. As expected of nobles—your daily routine is really disciplined," Ma Ti said to them.
Jason glared at Ma Ti, sprang to his feet, and shouted, "Disciplined my ass! We didn't sleep at all because of your snoring, okay? Look!"
Jason pointed at the dark circles under his eyes for Ma Ti to see.
"Uh…" Ma Ti looked at Jason and Kaladi and realized that both of them had heavy dark circles and exhausted expressions. It was obvious they hadn't slept all night.
He scratched his head awkwardly and laughed. "Haha~! Sorry about that. Why didn't you wake me up?"
"Alright, alright. Go find somewhere cool and stay there. Let the two of us get some proper sleep!" Jason said as he pushed Ma Ti aside and lay back down on the bed.
Kaladi also walked over, glanced at Ma Ti, and said, "Your snoring is truly terrifying."
"Haha, alright then. You guys sleep first. I'll come wake you up in the afternoon," Ma Ti said before leaving the room.
Kaladi was also exhausted beyond belief. He lay down on the bed as well, and before long, the two of them fell asleep.
Four or five days had passed since Nord's assassination attempt on Jason. During these days, Jason had been living together with Kaladi, eating and staying together. Nothing bad had happened, and everything was calm.
Early that morning, Jason got up early and brought Kaladi and the other two with him to the City Lord's main hall, because today was the agreed day for Jason to officially take office as Deputy City Lord.
The hall was already packed with people. Officials of all ranks from Sagos had gathered there early. Kelida and Minster had also arrived long ago.
After Jason, accompanied by Kaladi and the others, endured countless officials congratulating him and trying to get familiar with him, he finally made his way to Minster's side.
"Young Lord, this time you must do a good job. Don't act recklessly. Don't disappoint Lord Dawn's expectations of you," Minster said earnestly.
Jason smiled and nodded, replying, "Don't worry, General. That's a given—as long as no one keeps trying to cause trouble for me."
As he spoke, Jason glanced toward Kelida standing to the side.
