Chapter 39 - A Conversation with Minst

"I knew it—this matter wouldn't be that simple. And sure enough!"

Jason said unhappily. He truly hadn't expected Kelida's move to be this fast. It seemed he had underestimated Kelida's capabilities after all.

"Alright, get up. I won't blame you."

As Jason spoke, he stepped forward and helped the woman up.

"Thank you, my lord! Thank you, my lord!"

The woman knocked her head hard against the ground several times in thanks, then immediately ran back into her house and bolted the door shut.

Jason glanced at the tightly closed door, let out a helpless sigh, shook his head, and said, "Heaven spares no one, does it?"

Although Jason's plan for today—to use the opportunity to bring Kelida down and expose his evil deeds—had failed, and he'd even ended up slapping his own face in the process…

He had still gained something.

It was now very clear that the administrative minister Marifu was nothing more than Kelida's lackey, while Minst was obviously at odds with Kelida as well.

Moreover, Minst's prestige in Sagos was clearly extremely high—so high that even Kelida had to show him some respect. Therefore, if Jason wanted to establish himself in Sagos, he had no choice but to stand together with Minst and oppose Kelida alongside him.

As for the construction minister, Oge, he was a bit of a mystery. He spoke very little, leaving Jason completely unsure whether he was an enemy or an ally.

"Damn it! This kind of dog-blood palace intrigue only happens in dramas, and now I actually have to experience and participate in it myself! This is so damn annoying!"

Jason rubbed his temples as he walked, muttering to himself.

Seeing Kelida and the others returning one by one, Kaladi and the rest immediately went to the castle gates to welcome Jason there.

As Kelida passed by the three of them, his eyes were fixed straight on Wei Li'an. That gaze seemed as though it could see straight through her clothes, making Wei Li'an feel quite uncomfortable.

"Greetings, Lord Kelida. May I ask, my lord, where has our young master gone?"

Kaladi spoke to Kelida—first, to divert his attention away from his sister Wei Li'an, and second, to learn Jason's situation as soon as possible.

"Don't worry. He should be back very soon."

Kelida shot Kaladi an annoyed glance and replied curtly.

Then he turned back toward Wei Li'an, a wicked smile on his face, and said, "My little brother really is something—letting such a beauty serve as a follower. He really doesn't know how to cherish delicate jade. Little beauty, are you free tonight to have a drink with me?"

"No."

Wei Li'an rejected Kelida without the slightest hesitation. She had absolutely no good feelings toward him and didn't even look at him as she spoke.

"Oh? Didn't expect such a cute, lovable little beauty to have such a fiery temper!"

Kelida chuckled lightly at Wei Li'an.

"Our young master is back!"

Just as Kelida finished speaking, Mati spotted Jason's figure in the distance and shouted, quickly running toward him. Kaladi followed right after. Wei Li'an, who had been harassed by Kelida, also hurried toward Jason, using the chance to put distance between herself and Kelida.

Kelida watched Wei Li'an's retreating back, sneered disdainfully, and said, "Just wait. Sooner or later, you'll be mine."

With that, Kelida turned and walked straight back into the castle.

"Young master, are you alright? Kelida didn't give you any trouble, did he?"

As soon as Kaladi reached Jason, he asked anxiously.

"No, no. With so many people around, how would he dare cause me trouble?"

Jason waved his hand dismissively.

"That's good, that's good. We were just afraid Kelida might take this chance to make a move against you."

Mati also let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh right—have you seen Lord Minst? Has he returned yet?"

Jason suddenly thought of something and asked Kaladi and the others.

"Yes, Minst has been back for a while already. He should still be in the castle."

Wei Li'an replied.

"Kaladi, trouble you to make a trip and invite Lord Minst to have lunch with us. We need to show him that we share the same stance and let him become our friend."

Jason had already thought it through on the way back—if he wanted to gain a foothold in Sagos, he absolutely had to build a good relationship with Minst.

"Alright, young master, rest assured. Leave it to me."

After saying that, Kaladi headed into the castle to look for Minst.

Jason turned to Wei Li'an and asked, "What did Kelida say to you just now? You looked pretty disgusted."

"That guy Kelida wanted to invite Wei Li'an to dinner. With that lecherous look in his eyes—even I found it disgusting, let alone Wei Li'an."

Mati answered in Wei Li'an's place.

"So that's how it is… heh. That guy really is arrogant. He's even hitting on my people now. Just wait—let's see in the end which of us plays the other to death!"

Jason frowned and muttered to himself, a strong desire to defeat Kelida burning in his heart.

Soon, Jason prepared several delicate dishes in his room and waited for Minst's arrival.

Minst arrived as promised. The moment he entered, he laughed and said to Jason, "Haha! Vice City Lord, you've only just arrived in Sagos—by all rights, you're the guest, and I should be the one playing host. I never expected you to invite me first. This really makes me feel embarrassed!"

"Come now, Lord Minst, no need to be so polite. As a junior, this is only proper."

Jason replied modestly.

"I've always heard that Jason Dawnay was a spoiled young master with eyes higher than the heavens. But after spending these past few days together, I find you're actually quite humble and courteous. Seems you really can't trust hearsay."

Minst said with a sigh as he looked at Jason.

Minst's praise pleased Jason as well. He smiled and said, "My lord, you flatter me too much. Come, please sit—if we wait any longer, the food will get cold."

As he spoke, Jason personally pulled out a chair for Minst before taking his own seat.

After sitting down, Jason noticed Kaladi and the other three still standing to the side. He felt a bit uncomfortable eating while they watched, so he smiled and asked Minst, "My lord, these are all my trusted aides. Would you mind if they sat down and joined us for the meal?"

Hearing Jason speak up for them, Kaladi and the others felt deeply moved.

"What? Vice City Lord, are you saying you want your attendants to sit at the same table with you?"

Minst frowned slightly as he asked.

That question instantly made the atmosphere awkward. Jason was also caught off guard—he hadn't expected Minst to care about this.

"What? Does my lord feel that something is inappropriate?"
