Chapter 36 - The Mystery of Population Loss

Kellyda heard the obvious implication in Jason's tone, so she turned her head and asked Jason, "Little brother, does that sound like you're targeting me?"Jason laughed and patted Kelida on the shoulder, saying, "Look at what you're saying, old brother. I'm hoping you can protect me. After all, you've been in Sagus for so long, deeply rooted, with a vast network of influence. With you watching over me, nothing should happen, right?"

"That's for sure," Kelida said, looking at Jason with a hint of murderous intent in his eyes.

Seeing the look in Kelida's eyes, Jason was so frightened that he quickly retracted his hand from Kelida's shoulder.Jason is still a level below Kelida after all; his aura can't compare to Kelida's at all, and that's even with Jason having the added status of being the son of the King of the Southern Territory.

Munster saw that the time was about right, so he stood up and coughed twice, signaling for the people in the hall to quiet down.

With Munster's cough, all the officials who had been trying to get close to each other fell silent and stared at Munster, which was enough to show Munster's prestige in Saggos. After the silence fell over the entire field, Munster said in a confident and resonant voice, "Everyone, you should all know why we've gathered you here today, right?"

"We know!" the crowd answered in unison.

Munster pulled Jason forward and said to the crowd, "This is Jason Ryan, the son of our King of the Southern Territory. From now on, he will be the second-in-command of our Sagus deputy city lord. I hope that in the future, everyone can guide and help him assist City Lord Kelida in managing Sagus well. Young Master, say a few words." With that, Munster handed the floor to Jason."Uh... let me speak?" Jason asked Munster, a little confused.

Munster nodded and stepped aside.

Jason knew he couldn't avoid it today. He turned his head to look at the nearly fifty officials, big and small, and found that they were all staring at him with wide eyes, waiting for him to speak. This made Jason even more nervous. He stood there blankly for a good ten seconds, not knowing what to say or how to say it.

Kellyda, who was sitting lazily on the city lord's throne, looked at Jason with a disdainful expression, propping up her chin. She thought to herself, "Hmph, a waste is a waste, truly useless."Jason thought for a long while, finally cleared his throat and said to everyone, "Thank you, everyone. I don't have much to say, just that I hope everyone can help me more in the future so that I can better assist my cousin, Kelida, in managing Sagus. Thank you!" Jason even politely bowed to everyone.

The crowd politely responded with applause.

Jason's humble words surprised Minster somewhat. He had once heard that Jason Lane was an unruly and dissolute playboy, but what he saw today was completely different. At least he had some self-restraint.Jason also left a good impression on Munster.

After Jason finished speaking, Munster took out a silver lion head badge, about half the size of a palm, and pinned it on Jason's chest.

"Only the deputy city lord of Sagus can have this badge. You must keep it safe and never lose it, understand?" Munster said to Jason.

"Yes, I understand!" Jason readily agreed, and as he spoke, he looked at Kelida's chest and saw that Kelida also had the same badge, but his was gold, which must be the symbol of the city lord."Alright, it's the beginning of the month. Minister of Construction and Minister of Management, stay behind. Everyone else, please leave. We're holding an internal affairs meeting," Kelida said suddenly, standing up to address the crowd.

The people in the hall began to leave in a bustling manner.

Kelida glanced at Kaladi and the others still standing behind Jason and said, "You should leave too. Only the five of us can be present at the internal affairs meeting."

Although Kaladi and the others were reluctant to leave, they had no choice but to turn around and follow the crowd out of the hall."Karadi also noticed that Jason was actually following them outside, and with a sneer, he called out to Jason, "Our Deputy City Lord, where are you going? Are you planning to skip your first internal affairs meeting?"

"Haha, how could I? I was just joking," Jason said, turning back.

Actually, he was afraid. After all, he wasn't familiar with any of these guys. What if they were all in cahoots with Kelida and wanted to take his life?"Jason was still very uneasy. Because of what happened a few days ago, he now felt like once bitten by a snake, he's afraid of ropes for ten years. He didn't dare to be negligent at all, fearing that he would suddenly be killed with a single sword strike.

Soon, everyone had left the main hall, leaving only Jason, Kelida, Minster, and the Minister of Construction, Ogg, and the Minister of Management, Usmitt.

Jason carefully sized up these two people he had never met before.

The Minister of Construction, Ogg, was burly, with thick eyebrows, large eyes, and a square face. He looked like a slightly younger, smaller version of Minster, and didn't seem like a bad person."Unlike the other administrative minister, Marifu, who had a shrewd look and a bright bald head, making him look like a cunning merchant."

"Everyone, please sit!" Kelida said, seeing that it was just the four of them left, and sat directly in the city lord's seat, crossing his legs.

"Come! Vice City Lord, please sit!" Minster went to a chair to the left of the city lord's seat and invited Jason to sit there with him.Among these four people, Jason only had a slight liking for Munster. Faced with Munster's invitation, Jason went without hesitation and sat on the left with Munster, while the two ministers sat on the right.

After Munster waited for them to settle down, he began to speak, "Gentlemen, I was away training new recruits last month, and the deputy city lord is also new here. Could you two please tell us about the situation in Saggos last month?"

Kellyda was displeased with Munster taking the lead in the meeting."Clearly, I'm the city lord, and I haven't even spoken yet, but you're already talking. You old geezer, just you wait. If I get the chance, I'll tear you to pieces. You don't respect me, so I'll bury you in the ground!" Kelida thought to himself.

"Nothing different, same as before. We've reclaimed a dozen or so houses. Since Sagus is running out of space, the city lord suggested leveling the area and building a fighting arena, hoping to attract more powerful Fury Masters to our Southern Territory," Ogg said.

"So, Sagus lost some more population last month?"
