That kiss was all they could both think of throughout the whole weekend. They were unsure if they had began a serious relationship. Jamie knew he had finally gotten something that would work out for him. Paige was very happy there was someone who finally doesn't want to take advantage of her and her money. She had suffered in many relationships. She was beautiful but the guys just couldn't stay. They were mostly into her money and this time around he likes her without even knowing much about her. This was what she wanted and it seemed new places can bring about changes. This time everything would be alright, she told herself. She couldn't wait to see him the next day. They haven't talked since the kiss, not even a text which was weird between them. They normally texted each other every time but this time they didn't, which made her more anxious to meet him. Soon the much anticipated day came and she was in a hurry to go without even touching her breakfast. Her parents were surprised but took her explanation that she had a lot to do at school. On arrival she made her way straight to their office to meet what she had been waiting for all this while. Jamie stood in the office in silence still waiting for Paige to come. He was scared she wouldn't come turning out to be the same as all the rest, but he felt this would be different, that she would be different. The door opened slowly and he was glad but the long wait turned out to be a surprise. The blonde hair that introduced the person looked familiar. Of course, he couldn't forget that hair but he was in shock to see her. Elaine was back in the school and more surprisingly in his office.
"Not a very nice welcome, you are not glad to see me are you?" she said closing the distance between them.
"I thought you said you would never come back. What are you doing here?" he asked simply.
He was still in shock.
"I came back for you" she replied hoping he would understand but he didn't.
He gave her a puzzled look.
"We are back in town and this time we're going to stay for a long time" she said with a smile.
"Am I supposed to be happy about that?" he asked.
"I know things didn't work out the way we wanted and I'm very sorry but I'm here to make amends and I hope you give us another chance" she said holding him by the arm.
"Well, I moved on when you left and I hope you do to" he replied.
"We are meant for each other. I mean we have been apart for a while but our love has brought us back together. I know it has been long but all I'm asking is one more chance, a little time to for us to heal" she said with a smile.
Paige had been behind the door and heard all that they said.
"I have someone else, and I can't betray her love and trust because I love her even if she doesn't know it, so I suggest you move on" he said moving backwards when she tried to kiss him.
Paige walked in and for once he was relieved she was there. She walked past Elaine greeting her but she didn't respond. She planted a soft kiss on his lips and stood by his side showing Elaine that he is taken.
"Who is this lovely lady Jamie?" she asked pretending she didn't hear anything.
"She means no harm, just someone from my past" he said simply and she understood him.
Elaine looked at them with pure distaste.
"Our love brought me here for us to be together and I'm not giving up on us, always remember that" she said then made her way out.
"Your past is really chasing your future" Paige said when Elaine was out of sight.
"Is that going to be a problem?" she added.
"I don't want to talk about anything but us" he said holding her in his arms and planting a soft kiss on her lips making her smile.
This was the beginning of their love life and they were not going to let anything ruin it. They knew it was up to them to make it work or not. It was necessary for them since many didn't want them together. The danger was mostly directed towards Paige, she was the new girl who was trying to steal their prince charming.
Jamie sat in his chair later that afternoon during their lunch break. It was quiet in the sound proof room. He was lost in thoughts as usual but this time they were sweet thoughts. He didn't even notice Paige when she entered. His smiled broadened when he noticed her.
"I would kill to see what you're thinking off right now" she said with a smile.
He leaned in and wrapped his arms around her waist gently, "You'd kill just to see yourself?" he asked, surprising her.
"It's lunch time so I thought we'd go get something to eat" she said softly with her arms wrapped around his neck.
"Who would want food when they have you?" he said playfully.
He pulled her close till she was standing in between his legs. She leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on his forehead. He felt like a little child as she pulled him up from the chair.
"I can't go with you right now, I need to speak with Ms Hull now" he said and the disappointment was clear in her eyes.
They really wanted to spend time with each other but they had a lot on their plates lately.
"How about I take you home after practice?" he said quickly and suddenly the excitement was back between them.
"That seems fair" she said, kissing him on the lips.
She walked out of the room and immediately ran into Marie who was also heading out to the cafeteria. Marie gave her a simple smile as they walked on together.
Practice was longer than usual since it was almost time for the new season to begin but Jamie didn't feel the heat. He was calmer and more composed than usual. Leon and the other guys teased that he was trying hard to impress Paige. She watched the whole practice looking forward to their alone time. She had enough time to waste since she was out of the Mockingbirds. Jamie and Marie tried to convince her not to give up because of Hazel but she didn't want to be in the company of people she couldn't trust any longer. Soon the final whistle went off. He walked casually towards Paige all sweaty. He leaned forward trying to kiss her but she tilted her head backwards, avoiding the kiss completely. Jamie was a little bit surprised but her smile assured him that it wasn't anything serious.
"I need to shower, I will be back soon so we can leave" he said but before he could leave she held onto into his arm and pulled him back. Their lips were together immediately he turned. This kiss was precise and it seemed rather too desperate. Almost as if there was something sinister behind it. He pulled away reluctantly and turned only to see Hazel staring.
He ran off with the boys towards the locker room leaving Paige alone in the gymnasium with the Mockingbirds still practicing. Hazel walked to Paige with her little minions behind her.
"I see you're getting very bold" Hazel said with pure distaste.
"I will tell you the last time to leave my brother, he's too good for you. I know he's not really himself now but when he finally realizes that you're just another girl he will leave you. So let me make things clear, whatever you think you have going on won't last. I'd advice you end it now before it ends in tears for you" she said threateningly.
"I don't really know what your problem is Hazel but I think you're lonely and it's really getting to you. And I think your brother and I are old enough to decide whatever we want" Paige said in a calm tone.
"You actually think I'm lonely?" Hazel shouted and her friends laughed.
Paige nodded annoying and stood up.
"Well, I think it's either you're lonely or you have a brother complex. Either way it's not my problem cos I'm planning on getting dirtier with your brother" she said with a smirk that really annoyed Hazel.
She raised her hand to slap her but Jamie shouted from the door, "What do you think you're doing Haz?" he rushed towards them.
He stood next to Paige and face Hazel,"What is going on here?"
"Why are you asking me? Ask your stupid girlfriend?" Hazel shouted then left with her girl behind her.
"What happened?" he turned to Paige whose expression had changed suddenly.
"Nothing" she smiled and Jamie felt confused.
"Are you okay?" he asked trying to be sure everything was fine.
"Perfectly" she smiled again and this time is was genuine.
"Can we leave now?" she added making him smile too.
She held onto his arm as they walked pass Hazel and the girls. She turned to Hazel and shouted, "You should thank me later if he returns home cos what I'm going to do to him tonight, he might not want to leave anymore" she smiled.
Hazel's face turn red with a frown. Jamie glanced at Paige as they walked out of the building. He was surprised but glad she was standing up for herself.
I know you were just trying to make her mad but did you have to be so sweet about it?" he smiled at her as she sat in the car with him in front of her house.
"What makes you think I was joking?" she replied with a smile as their eyes locked.
His blood nearly boiled. He could suddenly see all the tiny details that did not matter moments ago. The loose strand of hair on her forehead, her slow breathing, her constant blinking and how she softly bit her lips. He could see and feel it all.
