Jamie and Hazel grew further apart as his relationship with Paige flourished. She was everything he could ask for and more. Their ecstasy lasted forever since it first began. The whole school was rooting for them with no idea they were already together. Hazel was still haunted by what Paige said. She continued to contemplate whether Paige knew more about what she said or it was just a wild guess. She maintained her distance even though it killed her seeing them together. She had gotten a bit serious with Leon just to remove any thoughts from people's minds because she knew if Paige had figured that much out all by herself then others might also catch on too.
Another couple of months passed and it was obvious that Jamie and Paige had a thing going on. Most of the ladies didn't like it because they wanted him to themselves. It was official that they were together but that didn't stop the other girls from giving him a shy smile and a wink every now and then. The new lovebirds sat on Jamie's car in front of the gym. It was another boring Friday and they had the whole weekend ahead. Paige sat in between his legs as he wrapped his arms around her savouring her delicious smell. Jamie tried to rush off the car when he saw Hazel approaching them with Leon but Paige signalled to him to stop.
"You two seem to wanna take all the space for your love story" Leon said with his usual boyish smile.
"And you look gorgeous as usual" he added looking towards Paige who gave him a quick smile.
"What is it?" Jamie asked.
"You know, the boys have been thinking" he paused, "since you and Paige got together you hardly hangout with us and you know that makes her lose credibility with us" he added.
Jamie knew he was right but he also knew Hazel had some evil plan. He has always known that Leon was just a puppet that his sister was controlling but there was nothing he could do to help him since he was madly in love with Hazel; he was simply under her spell.
"Yes, I think you should hang out with your friends more. I don't want to be the reason you guys don't get along well again" Paige whispered in his ears making him smile.
Hazel rolled her eyes with disgust. She didn't like what she was seeing but she had no choice.
"I don't think I can watch that anymore. Well, cutting to the chase, you know today is Friday and there's an event at your poolside as usual. We're here to invite you" Hazel said.
Jaime and Paige looked at each other surprised.
Hazel rolled her eyes again, " half the school will be around and you will have time to have fun with the boys" she paused for a moment then continued, "you can bring her too" she said emphasizing on the "her" as if it was some disease you get diagnosed with.
"It's going to be fun" Leon added excited.
"Can I talk to you for a second?" he asked Paige.
Leon and Paige walked away till there was a distance between them and the twins. Jamie knew from the distance that whatever it was Leon didn't want him to hear it. He began to think about what it could possibly be until Hazel pulled him from his thoughts.
"I see you're happy with her" she said simply.
"What ... Yeah" Jamie replied looking at Paige who was all smiles while talking with Leon.
"Good for you. Enjoy it while it lasts" she added and in that moment her brother knew she hadn't given up.
He knew she was planning something. Her cold gaze towards Paige said it all. He needed no evidence to accept the hatred she felt towards Paige. Leon called to Hazel and they walked off with Paige approaching Jamie with her smile still on.
"What did he want?" he asked nervously and Paige sensed it too.
"It's rather a request and a very demanding one of course" she smiled again.
"I will meet you at the party okay" she said and gave him a kiss before leaving him hanging.
She was keeping something from him and he was very curious as to what it was. His trust issues made sure he felt insecure at that moment. He wanted to know what it was but there was no way he could get answers. Jamie felt a bit of rage because he wanted to go with her but from her reaction it wasn't going to happen. He tried to relax as he drove off.
Jamie sat by the pool lonely. An hour had passed and there was still no sign of Paige. He took sips of his beer and pretended to be okay because the boys were around but they knew he hasn't. He excused himself and went upstairs to check if she had called or texted. He just wanted to get something, even if she wasn't going to show up.
He was frustrated as he left his room but Hazel was there. Waiting for him outside the door. She had followed him upstairs.
"Still waiting for the bitch to show up?" she smiled, amused that Paige hadn't shown up.
"What do you want Haz?" he almost shouted.
With all that was going on in his head, she was the last person he wanted to talk to at that moment.
"I'm just checking on my baby brother" she said trying to be kind but it wasn't working.
"That shouldn't be your problem, shouldn't you be with Leon now?" he asked.
She took a few steps closer to him. His breathing quickened like he had been cornered by a wild animal. He tried to move back each time she stepped forward.
"What are you doing?" he shouted.
"Nothing" she smiled.
He felt a little tipsy. He tried to slow down his breathing but he couldn't. His heart wouldn't stop pounding. He couldn't believe that the alcohol was setting in, just when he needed to get away.
"Don't come any closer" he shouted but they were totally isolated. Nobody could hear him scream. Hazel continued to close the distance between them until she was right in front of him. She placed her hands on his shoulders and leaned forward. His heart pounded even louder and his body felt like paper. He knew he would fall if he tried to move. She leaned even closer. Their lips were almost together before she heard it.
"Jamie! Jamie! ... Are you there?"
