Rain battered the glass walls of Lower Manhattan Medical Center. Ambulances screamed into the emergency entrance one after another, their red lights cutting through the storm like warnings the city couldn't ignore.
Inside the hospital, chaos ruled.
Doctors rushed down hallways pushing stretchers. Nurses shouted orders across crowded rooms. Patients filled every available bed, many of them victims from the subway attack and the earlier violence in Times Square.
The hospital had become the center of Manhattan's emergency response. But no one there knew something else had arrived in the city. Something worse. In a quiet hallway outside the emergency ward, Rennie, Tyler, and Tommy Jarvis sat waiting. Tyler had a bandage wrapped around his arm from earlier in the subway panic. A nurse had insisted on cleaning the wound before letting them leave. Tyler winced as he flexed his arm.
"Great," he muttered. "First Jason tries to kill us, now hospital bills will."
Tommy leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
"You should be grateful it's just a cut."
Tyler sighed.
"I know, I know."
Rennie sat quietly, staring at the tiled floor. Her thoughts kept circling the same terrifying question.
Why her?
Why was Jason following her through the city? Tommy noticed her expression.
"You feel it again, don't you?" he asked.
Rennie looked up slowly.
"What?"
"That feeling," Tommy said quietly. "Like he's getting closer."
Rennie hesitated. Then nodded. Tyler groaned.
"Please tell me that's just paranoia."
But Tommy's expression didn't change.
"No," he said.
"It isn't."
Across the hospital, near the rear parking lot, a security guard stepped outside to smoke beneath the emergency exit awning. Rain poured down around him. He lit his cigarette and sighed.
"Crazy night," he muttered.
Sirens echoed constantly through the streets. The guard took another drag and glanced across the empty parking lot. That's when he saw the figure walking through the rain. At first he thought it was just another patient. Then lightning flashed. And the hockey mask became visible. The guard frowned.
"What the hell kind of—"
Jason stepped closer. The machete hung loosely in his hand. The guard dropped the cigarette.
"Oh… hell."
He reached for the radio on his belt. Jason grabbed him first. The guard barely had time to gasp before Jason slammed him against the metal emergency door. The impact echoed through the alley. The radio clattered to the ground, crackling with static. Jason let the guard slide down the wall. Then he pushed open the hospital door. And stepped inside. Back in the waiting hallway, Tyler stood up from the chair.
"I'm starving," he said.
"There's gotta be a vending machine somewhere."
Tommy shook his head.
"Stay close."
Tyler rolled his eyes.
"It's a hospital, not a horror movie."
Tommy didn't laugh. Because somewhere deep in his gut, he felt the same warning Rennie did. Jason was near. In the emergency ward, nurses rushed between beds. A doctor shouted orders.
"Get this patient to surgery now!"
The automatic doors at the end of the hallway slid open. Jason walked inside. At first, no one noticed. Doctors were too busy saving lives. But a nurse looked up just in time to see the mask. Her eyes widened.
"Security?"
Jason grabbed the rolling medical cart beside him and shoved it hard across the floor. It crashed into a group of equipment stands. Metal clanged loudly. The entire room turned toward the noise. Then they saw him. Panic erupted instantly. Patients tried climbing out of beds. Nurses screamed. Doctors shouted for people to evacuate. Jason walked forward through the chaos. A doctor rushed toward him.
"Sir, you can't be in here!"
Jason shoved the doctor violently aside. He crashed into a tray of surgical instruments. The clatter echoed across the ward. People ran for the exits. Jason kept walking. Looking. Searching. In the hallway outside, Rennie suddenly stood up. Tyler blinked.
"What?"
Rennie's face had gone pale.
"He's here."
Tommy was already moving.
"I knew it."
Tyler stared at them both.
"You've got to be kidding—"
Then the screams started. Loud. Panicked. Coming from the emergency ward. Tyler's stomach dropped.
"Oh… no."
Tommy grabbed his arm.
"We have to move. Now."
Inside the emergency ward, the lights flickered violently as people scrambled in every direction. Jason stepped through the overturned equipment. A terrified nurse tried pushing a stretcher past him. Jason shoved it aside. The patient rolled off and hit the floor. Jason didn't even look down. His head slowly turned toward the hallway. Toward the direction where Rennie was running. He had found her again. Rennie, Tyler, and Tommy rushed down the corridor toward the stairwell. More hospital staff were running past them.
"What's happening?" Tyler shouted.
"Someone's attacking the ER!"
Tommy didn't slow down.
"We have to get outside."
Behind them, the emergency ward doors burst open. Jason stepped into the hallway. A security guard tried tackling him. Jason grabbed the man and slammed him into the wall. The guard collapsed instantly. Jason looked down the corridor. Rennie was halfway to the stairwell. Jason started walking. The stairwell door burst open as Tommy shoved it.
"Inside!"
They rushed down the concrete steps two at a time. Tyler looked up through the open stairwell. Jason appeared at the top landing. Tyler's voice shook.
"He's coming!"
Tommy grabbed a fire extinguisher from the wall.
"Keep moving!"
Jason descended the stairs slowly. Each heavy step echoed through the narrow space. Rennie reached the bottom level and shoved the exit door open. Rain blasted into the stairwell. They ran into the storm-filled street. Tyler looked back once more. Jason reached the bottom step. He stepped out into the rain. Still walking. Still unstoppable. Police sirens were getting closer again. Multiple patrol cars screeched around the corner near the hospital. Officers jumped out, weapons raised.
"DROP THE WEAPON!"
Jason didn't stop. Gunshots echoed through the rain. Jason staggered slightly. Then kept walking. The officers froze in disbelief. Tommy grabbed Rennie's arm.
"Come on!"
They disappeared into the crowded streets again. Behind them, Jason stood beneath flashing police lights. Rain poured down his mask. He slowly turned his head toward the direction Rennie had gone. And continued the hunt.
