Chapter 21 - No More Running

The city sirens hadn't stopped.

From the streets above the subway, the sound poured down the stairwell like a constant warning—police, ambulances, evacuation units—all trying to control something they didn't understand.

But underground, in the flickering half-flooded station…

Everything had gone quiet.

Jason Voorhees stepped forward.

Water rippled around his boots.

Behind him, the collapsed tunnel swallowed everything that had happened—Tommy, the failed trap, the last real chance they had.

Rennie didn't move.

She stood her ground.

Tyler grabbed her arm.

"Rennie… we need to go."

She didn't look at him.

"He's not going to stop."

Tyler's voice cracked.

"I know that! That's why we have to—"

"No."

She finally turned to him.

And something in her expression had changed.

"No more running."

Jason took another step.

Closer now.

The distance between them shrinking again.

Tyler backed away instinctively.

"Okay… yeah… that's a terrible idea."

But Rennie stepped forward.

One step.

Toward Jason.

"Rennie, what are you doing?!" Tyler shouted.

Jason stopped.

Just for a moment.

Watching her.

Rennie's voice was shaking—but steady enough.

"You've been following me since Crystal Lake."

Another step.

"You didn't come here for the city."

Another step.

"You came for me."

Tyler stared at her in disbelief.

"What are you doing?!"

Jason tilted his head slightly.

The same way he had before.

But this time…

It felt different.

Like recognition.

Rennie swallowed.

Her heart pounded in her chest.

But she didn't stop.

"If you want me…"

She took another step forward.

"Then stop chasing everyone else."

Tyler shook his head.

"No, no, no, no—this is not how this works—"

Jason moved.

One step.

Directly toward her.

Ignoring Tyler completely.

Tyler froze.

"Oh… that actually worked."

But his relief didn't last.

Because now Jason was focused entirely on Rennie.

She didn't run.

Not this time.

She held her ground.

Waiting.

Watching.

Understanding something she hadn't before.

Jason didn't hunt randomly.

He hunted purpose.

And she was the center of it.

Above them, the sound of boots echoed down the stairwell.

Police.

"DOWN THERE!" someone shouted.

"WE'VE GOT HIM!"

Flashlights cut through the darkness.

Officers rushed into the station, weapons raised.

"DROP THE WEAPON!"

Jason didn't even look at them.

Rennie's voice dropped.

"He doesn't care about them."

Tyler whispered,

"Yeah… I noticed…"

Gunshots exploded through the station.

The bullets hit Jason.

Again.

And again.

He staggered—

Then kept walking.

Toward Rennie.

"WHY WON'T HE GO DOWN?!" one officer shouted.

Another tried moving closer.

"Take the shot! Take the—"

Jason turned suddenly.

One movement.

Fast.

Violent.

He shoved the officer back into the railing.

The man collapsed.

The others froze.

Because they had seen enough now.

Enough to understand.

This wasn't something they could stop.

Rennie stepped back.

Not out of fear.

But to move.

To guide him.

Tyler caught on instantly.

"Wait… you're leading him."

She nodded.

"Out of here."

They turned and ran.

Up the subway stairs.

Jason followed.

Leaving the officers behind.

Still alive.

But powerless.

They burst out onto the street.

Rain hit them instantly.

Cold.

Heavy.

Relentless.

The city looked different now.

Evacuated.

Half-empty.

Police barricades everywhere.

Helicopters circling above.

Tyler looked around.

"This place is a war zone…"

Rennie didn't slow down.

"Good."

Tyler blinked.

"What?"

She looked back briefly.

Jason stepped out of the subway entrance behind them.

Still coming.

Still focused.

Rennie turned forward again.

"If the city's empty…"

Her voice hardened.

"…then we don't have to worry about anyone else."

Tyler finally understood.

"You're going to keep him on you."

Rennie nodded.

"Until we find a way to end this."

Tyler let out a shaky breath.

"That's either genius…"

He looked back at Jason.

"…or the worst plan ever."

They ran through the rain-soaked streets.

Past abandoned cars.

Past flashing police barricades.

Past a city that had been forced to step back from its own center.

Jason followed.

Never faster.

Never slower.

Just constant.

High above, a news helicopter hovered.

The camera zoomed in.

Live footage captured the moment.

Two teenagers running through an empty Manhattan street.

And behind them—

The masked figure.

Walking.

Unstoppable.

Inside the broadcast van, the reporter's voice trembled.

"We are witnessing something beyond explanation…"

The camera zoomed tighter.

Jason's mask filled the screen.

Rain dripping down its surface.

Emotionless.

Unchanging.

Back on the street, Rennie slowed slightly.

Tyler noticed.

"What now?"

She looked ahead.

At the dark outline of the city stretching forward.

Then she said something that made Tyler uneasy.

"We don't run forever."

He frowned.

"Then what?"

Rennie looked back at Jason one more time.

Then forward again.

"We end it."

Jason kept walking.

Through rain.

Through sirens.

Through a city that had finally started to understand what it was facing.

But understanding didn't matter.

Because nothing they had done so far had worked.

And now—

There was no one left to stand between him and Rennie.
