Chapter 20 - The Cost

The station trembled.

Water still spilled from the collapsed tunnel, spreading across the platform in a shallow, restless tide. Emergency lights flickered overhead, casting everything in a dim, pulsing red. Rennie, Tyler, and Tommy stood frozen. Because Jason Voorhees was still standing. He stepped forward. Water dripped from his mask. From his jacket. From the machete hanging at his side. Tyler stumbled back.

"That… that's not possible…"

Tommy didn't move. His eyes stayed locked on Jason.

"We were wrong," he said quietly.

Rennie's voice shook.

"Then what do we do?"

Tommy didn't answer. Because there was only one truth left. They couldn't stop him. Not like this. Jason took another step. Closer. The distance between them shrank again. Tyler grabbed Rennie's arm.

"We have to go. NOW!"

Rennie hesitated. Just for a second. And that second was enough. Jason lunged forward. Everything happened at once. Tommy stepped in front of them.

"RUN!"

Jason grabbed him. Lifted him off the ground like he weighed nothing. Rennie screamed.

"Tommy!"

Tyler pulled her back.

"GO!"

Jason slammed Tommy into the concrete pillar beside them. The impact echoed through the station. Tommy collapsed, struggling to breathe. Jason reached for him again— But Tommy forced himself up. Driven by pure will. Pure defiance.

"You're not getting her," he said, voice strained.

Jason tilted his head slightly. Then stepped forward again. Rennie shook Tyler's grip.

"No! We can't leave him!"

Tyler's voice broke.

"If we stay, we die too!"

Tommy looked at her. For a brief moment, everything slowed. The flashing lights. The sound of water. Even Jason's movement.

"Rennie," Tommy said.

His voice was calm now.

Clear.

"You have to go."

She shook her head.

"No…"

Tommy managed a faint, tired smile.

"I've been running from him my whole life."

Jason moved closer. Tommy didn't back away.

"But this time…"

He looked directly at her.

"I'm going to make it count."

Tyler pulled her harder.

"RENNIE!"

Tears filled her eyes. But she couldn't move. She couldn't leave. Jason reached Tommy again. Grabbed him. Tommy didn't resist this time. Instead, he did something unexpected. He wrapped his arms around Jason. Locked onto him. Holding him in place. Jason struggled slightly. But Tommy held on. Using everything he had left. Rennie realized what he was doing.

"No… NO!"

Tommy shouted,

"GO!"

Tyler dragged her away. She fought him. Screamed. Cried. But he didn't let go. Because he knew. If they stayed— It would all be for nothing. Behind them, Jason forced Tommy back. Toward the edge of the damaged platform. Toward the flooded section where the ground had begun to collapse. Tommy tightened his grip.

"You don't get to win this time…"

Jason raised the machete.

Then—

The ground beneath them gave way.

The platform cracked.

Concrete shattered.

And both of them dropped into the flooded darkness below.

The impact sent a wave of water crashing outward.

The station shook violently.

Then—

Silence.

Rennie collapsed at the top of the stairs.

"No…"

Her voice broke completely.

"No… no… no…"

Tyler stood beside her, breathing hard, unable to speak.

The tunnel below was gone.

Flooded.

Collapsed.

Dark.

For several long seconds, nothing moved.

No sound.

No movement.

No sign of either of them.

Tyler whispered,

"Is it over…?"

Rennie didn't answer.

She couldn't.

Her eyes stayed locked on the flooded darkness below.

Waiting.

Praying.

Hoping.

Then the water shifted.

Just slightly.

Rennie's heart stopped.

"Tyler…"

He looked.

And his face went pale.

Something was rising again.

Slowly.

From the darkness.

The mask appeared first.

Then the shoulders.

Then the full figure.

Jason Voorhees climbed back onto what remained of the platform.

Alone.

Rennie felt something inside her break.

"No…"

Tyler stepped back.

"That's not possible…"

But it was.

Jason stood there.

Water dripping from his body.

Unharmed.

Unstoppable.

Tommy was gone.

Jason slowly lifted his head.

Looking straight at Rennie.

Even after everything.

Even after the sacrifice.

The hunt wasn't over.

Rennie's tears fell silently now.

But something else replaced them.

Not fear.

Not panic.

Something colder.

Something stronger.

She stood up.

Slowly.

Tyler looked at her.

"What are you doing…?"

Rennie didn't look away from Jason.

"We finish this."

Jason took a step forward.
