It was night time and it was raining heavily . 'Boom!' . the thunder sung as the lighting flashed across the sky. Little Rin was scared so she got out of the room to her parent's room . She stopped midway holding a battered teddy bear when she heard her parents arguing AGAIN . Her parents were a killer couple in the village of Tainan and everyone was jealous about how much in love they were in . Apart from their insane beauty , they were perfect for each other. But now every thing was changing . At first, they just had minor arguments but now it's worse . To be honest , it was mostly her mother's fault . 'Lotus, you can't keep going to parties or hangovers with your friends anymore, Don't you get it? You are married. Our baby Rin needs a mother to take care of her', her father Absel said in a low voice . Rin peeked through a small crack on the door. She saw her mother putting on makeup . It's almost midnight , who puts on makeup by this time . Rin thought . She knew her mother was someone that cares about her appearance , but this .She sighed . 'Hmph , I can't spend the rest of my life in a lousy house taking care of a lousy child . I'm too pretty to do that. If I knew you would end up as a farmer , I would have married a rich man instead', she snorted . Rin just sighed and walked back to her room clutching the teddy bear in one hand. She lay down on her bed listening to the song the rain drops make as they hit the ground. Tomorrow was her birthday , she would be six . She hoped they would not argue . She felt tired and could not remember when she fell asleep.
The night passed away peacefully.
The sun rays hit her eyes as she opened them . Today was her birthday. 'grrr' now that was coming from her stomach. I'm so hungry, let me go get something to eat first . She got up and walked steadily to her parents bedroom . She saw her mother again looking at herself in the mirror. What is with this woman and her face . She said it out loud but no one heard her but herself. 'Ma , I'm hungry ', Rin said calmly. Lotus turned her face towards her and said in a sweet voice, ' You know , you could go to your useless father instead of being a pest in my life'. Rin just stared at her. What happened to my mother? Did she use her head to hit the wall or something? She just shrugged her shoulders and left for the farm . It was huge and had many crop varieties. 'Pops , I'm hungry Let's go prepare something and eat', Rin said lazily. 'My baby has grown up'. Rin hated it when her father called her a baby , he even treated her like one. Together they picked up vegetables for the cream corn soup both oblivious of what was going to happen to them. 'Pops , today will you tell me a story?' 'Of course baby' , her father , Absel replied . 'Is it true you were once an alchemist?' Rin asked and the pouted. She knew she was not supposed to know this but after listening to the endless arguments between her parents , she figured' Her dad gave her a skeptical look .' Seems someone has been a terrible eavesdropper', her father said softly. "Sorry Pops", Rin apologized. 'Don't worry, I was once an alchemist ' he started 'Then..' Rin cut him off . 'It's dangerous that is all I can say. The food is ready' . Rin realized he did not want to talk about it so she kept mute. But she always dreamed of becoming a powerful cultivator and alchemist .
The day passed by calmly. With a blink of the eye it was evening. The father and daughter duo returned to the house to get some rest after a hard day's work. Dad has not wished me , It is my birthday. Rin thought . Maybe he has forgotten . I can't stress him . He is probably tired. She brushed it off and followed him like a lost puppy . They got to the house and settled in the bed . Absel began telling his daughter a story . To his daughter it was just fiction but it was a legend. He smiled at the thought of it. 'Knock, knock', There was a knock on the door. Maybe it would one of the villagers . Absel thought . 'Baby, I'm going to check who it is. Stay put and do not fall asleep just yet . I'm not done', he said and kissed her cheek. 'Sure', Rin muttered. Of course she would not stay put she followed him sneakily and hid behind the wall. Immediately her father opened the door, his smile faltered . Rin noticed . Her father whispered something she could not hear and returned to her. He knelt down before her and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. ' Baby, something has come up so I am going to check it up. When I come back., we'll continue the story and finish it up okay ' , Absel said quietly. Rin did not want her father to go. 'Do you have to go?' she asked. 'Yes hun but I promise I'll be back soon. I always do', he said . 'Fine , do come back soon . I'll be waiting',. Absel kissed her forehead and left. Rin lingered about patiently waiting. Two solid hours had passed and he still was not here. If this was his definition of coming back soon then.. . Her mother was not in the house partying I guess . Rin thought. She heard the door open. Her face lit up . She rushed to the door but was disappointed. It was her mother back from only heavens knows where. Rin frowned slightly. 'Kid , I'm going to have my beauty sleep . Don't disturb please' , Lotus said and within seconds was out of sight. Rin was getting worried. It was almost midnight and her father was still not in. She heard the door open again. She grinned . He was here. She jolted out of the chair and rushed to the door. Yes it was her father but not what she imagined . She became scared , terrified. She just stood there not knowing what to do . She could feel her body screaming , move but she couldn't. Her eyes teary as she stood there like a statue.
