Chapter 16 - Alfred Restlessness

Alfred's POV

I sat down on my king-sized chair in my chambers as I waited for the captain of guards to arrive.

"Greetings, my Alpha," he said and bowed.

"Now isn't the time for greetings! Where are your guards'? I thought they were sent on a mission, so why haven't I gotten any feedback yet?" I asked, trying to submerge my anger.

"Alpha, we haven't seen them yet; I sent out a good number of soldiers to search for them."

''You people are so incomplete, just to search for one girl! A girl! and none of you can give me good news."

"Alpha, according to the information that we are getting from nearby packs, there is a wild and dangerous animal patrolling the forest. It is said that no one has ever seen such an animal.

"So, what are you trying to say?" I asked, interrupting him.

"I'm trying to say that Aurora must have been eaten and digested by that animal, including the guards."

"So why am I getting to know this now? And if you knew about this information, why then did you send a good number of guards outside? or do you intend to fight alone when there's a breakout?"

"Apologize, my Alpha; they went fully armed, and there are available backups," he said, maintaining his position.

"I think it's high time I stripped this duty off you because you're nothing but an illiterate." I yelled. "Besides, how many of them did you send?" I asked.

There was a moment of silence in our midst as I stared at him for a few seconds before speaking.

"Didn't you hear me?" I yelled.

"Twenty, twenty of them?" He responded and faced the floor.

"Twenty? Twenty soldiers were sent into the forest to die? And you stand before me and tell that to my face?"

"Alfred, you need to calm down; you're taking out your aggression on everyone." Sylvester said as he walked into my chambers.

"You may leave now." He told the captain of the guards.

"No, Sylvester, I'm not done with him yet." I opposed it.

He waved at the captain of guards with his index finger, giving him a signal to ignore me.

"I am the Alpha here, and everyone obeys me, and you shouldn't be exempt." I warned him.

"Take a chill pill, man; you'll run crazy in no time if you keep behaving like this." He spat.

"And what is that supposed to mean?" I blurted out a bit, angry.

"There's just one question that I've got to ask you; you really don't need to tell me, but be truthful to yourself," he said, leaving his gaze on me.

"Shoot." I ordered, adjusting my position.

"Do you still love her?"

I lost my voice at first because I wasn't expecting such questions, and I pretended to act confused.

"Where's that coming from, love? Who?" I shrouded.

"You know exactly who I'm referring to? Do you still love her, Alfred?" He asked again, this time wearing a serious face.

"Sylvester, we are not in a council section, and you know everything I'm doing is for the welfare of this pack." I voiced out.

"Oh, please spare me that crab; if it was anyone else, you wouldn't be so bothered about them being alive or dead; you've sent out guards to search for her; you even ordered the death of a guard because of her; stop lying to yourself."

"The only woman I love is Iza." I voiced out.

He let out a resounding laughter as it echoed around the room.

"Iza? You mean the girl you used to fill Aurora's space? you one you cheated on Aurora with and the same person you used in punishing her?" He laughed again.

"You being my friend doesn't give you the right to insult me."

"And you being the Alpha doesn't give you the right to put the members of this pack in danger because of your unknown reasons."

"I don't know what you think of me, but I love Iza." I blurted out.

"Oh, please, tell those crabs to the fish in the sea."

"Babe, oh please, don't argue with any fool; it's a free world, so allow them to imagine whatever they want to, and besides, you're the Alpha of this pack; you have the right to do whatever you want to." Iza's voice was heard as she walked into my chambers.

"Iza, what are you doing here? I thought we'd talked about you interrupting my meetings." I scowled.

"Babe, don't worry; I heard everything, and I'm so proud of you." She smiled and held my hands.

"I won't be caught up in this drama; I beg to take my leave." Sylvester announced this as he stood to his feet.

"Oh, please, leave! and for your information, your days in this pack as the beta are numbered." She scoffed at him.

"Suit yourselves," he said and left.

"Iza, you didn't have to." I smiled at her.

"Please don't tell me that you're on his side. Didn't you see how he tried to turn you over to me?"

"He was just being concerned, that's all." I defended.

"Concerned? Can you even hear yourself speak? He was trying to get you on Aurora's side."

"Aurora is dead; stop mentioning her name!" I yelled out unexpectedly, leaving her astonished.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you, and besides, have you taken that out?" I sang, pointing at her stomach.

She took two steps back and darted her eyes away from me. I nodded my head in anger as I scoffed.

"Did you hear me? I'm asking if you took the damn thing out! I yelled.

"Damn thing? you call our baby a damn thing?" Well, for your information, I was never pregnant and I will never be. You're not worthy to be called a father,'' she said, storming out of my chambers.

I didn't utter a word to her or try to stop her. At least it was a relief that she wasn't pregnant; if not, my life would have been in danger.
