Chapter 22 - New Family

Alexis POV

I was still in shock as my brother walked past me. I had never seen him so upset over a girl in my whole life.

"Wait! What just happened?" I blurted out and laughed sterically at the same time.

I left a cold gaze on the girl who stood beside me; she was the same age as me but looked so unkept and naive, even if we were in the middle of nowhere. I mean, I've also been roaming around the forest for weeks and I wasn't looking as tacky as her.

"What did you say your name is again?" I asked her, trying to start up a conversation.

The least I could do is get along with my brother's new concubine and know if she's really worthy of my brother.

"I'm Aurora." She voiced out.

"Aurora, that's a beautiful name. Well, I'm Alexis, Alzred's little sister." I introduced myself properly.

"It's nice meeting you, Alexis, and I apologize for the way Alzred spoke to you; it's all my fault." She pleaded.

"Oh no, it's fine. At least I'm happy to know he has a heart." I smiled. "I've never really seen him this upset about any woman; I'm happy you could change that." I whispered.

"It's my pleasure." She smiled as I observed that she was indeed beautiful.

"We could be friends, if you don't mind." I offered.

"That would be great," she said as we held hands and walked outside the house.

Alzred gasped upon seeing us coming; I was sure he was surprised by the sudden change.

"Surprised huh? Well, you should, because I just got myself a friend in the forest." I teased him.

"That's what it should be like." He chuckled. "Let's go food-haunting because I'm starving." He proposed.

Aurora's POV

"I guess you've got yourself a new friend; she isn't as bad as we thought." Camel blurted it out.

"Camel, be quiet; they'll hear you." I cautioned her.

"When did I start to speak out so loud? Am I not just allowed to be in your head?" She kept asking questions.

"Aurora, so tell me what you're doing in the forest. Aren't you meant to be in one pack?" Alexis asked, and immediately my mood swung.

"Uhm, I..." I stuttered.

"Alexis, why don't we answer all questions when we get back home?" Alzred voiced out.

"Alright, if you say so." She responded, but I already noticed the unease written all over my face.

We lingered in the push for some while before finally coming across a papaya tree.

"I think the moon goddess has finally heard our cry," Alzred announced after seeing the tree first.

"Oh goodness, this is a relief because I was already tired of walking without a destination. Alzred, please do justice to those three." She sighed, breathing hard.

We plugged out four ripe papayas and headed to the house.

Alzred was the most energetic among us. He peeled the papaya and gave us our share as we devoured the food until we were satisfied.

"Do you want more?" He asked me, offering his last dice.

"No, I'm full," I said with food in my mouth while Alexis stared at us, smiling.

"Alex, why do you have a fat chin?" He asked when he caught her smiling.

"Do I?" She touched her chin.

"Yeah, but not until now. It disappeared a few seconds ago." He teased.

"Oh!" She laughed. "You mean that?" She touched her chin again. "I'm having goosebumps seeing my brother in love, she giggled.

"You're all wrong; I'm only looking out for my new friend." He responded, smiling too.

I raised my head, leaving a gaze on him after hearing his last statement. My brows were already furrowed, like I was about to cry.

Alexis noticed the expressions on my face and let out a resounding laugh.

"Did I do something wrong?" Alzred asked, exchanging his gaze with the both of us.

"No, brother, you said something wrong." Alexis said this while Alzred realized what happened and drew me close to himself.

"I'm sorry, princess; I didn't mean to say hurtful things to you."

"So!" Alexis said, calling our attention. "I guess we are settled, finished eating, and at home. Who's doing the talking among you both?" She asked in curiosity.

I darted my eyes to the ground as the memories of Alfred's wickedness and betrayal rang in my head. The memories were still fresh, like it all happened yesterday.

Especially choosing my cousin over me and crowning her his Luna right before my eyes. I couldn't hold back the tears that flowed down my cheeks.

"Aurora, are you okay?" Alexis asked after seeing the tears that left a mark on my dress.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I managed to say as I buried my face in my palms.

"I'm sorry; I don't mean to hurt you. Alzred, what's going on?"

"Before you, you are the destined Alpha of the Moon West Pack," Alzred said.

"What? How?" She exclaimed in shock.

"Her parents were killed on her seventeenth birthday, and she was proposed to take over the title the next year, but by then she was still mourning her parents and decided to give out the title to her so-called boyfriend."

"Ex!" I blurted out, correcting him.

"Ex boyfriend while he crowns her his Luna, but he stabbed her behind, chose her cousin over her, and enforced labor on her."

"Oh, this didn't happen. It's so horrible; why would he do that? Is he your mate?" She asked, looking me in the eyes.

"No," I replied camely. "I haven't found him yet. After I turned 18, he made sure I was locked up on every mating day."

"That's horrible." She spat.

"Yeah, and that's why we are embarking on a revenge mission; our plans are already drafted. We've got to make him pay for this."

"I'm totally in support of it and I'll fight, even if it costs my last breath. You aren't alone, Aurora."
