Aurora's POV
My eyes caught him throwing a stick at me as it fell and hit a stone.
"Did you hear that?" One of the men asked.
My heart beat increased as I heard footsteps walking in my direction because the stick lay in front of me.
"Oh no! What did he just do?" I cried silently.
"Parker, we should leave here; it's almost nightfall." The second man said as he interrupted the first man from picking up the stick, "
"You're right, it isn't safe here," the first man said as they left.
I let out a sigh of relief and left a stare at Alzred as I crawled out of my hideout and walked towards the house.
"Aurora, Aurora, please hold on," he said, running towards me.
I paid dead ears to him and increased the speed of my legs when I got his hands around my arms.
"I'm sorry," he voiced out.
"For what exactly? for making me look like a fool or almost killing me?" I blurted out.
"Kill you? You know I would never do that!" He defended himself, sounding confused.
"But you almost did a few minutes ago."
"I'm sorry, Aurora." His voice was filled with emotion as he realized what I meant.
"Is that all?" I asked and hoped he'd come clean.
My heart burned every day whenever I remembered what I heard on the day of the attack. I was already too attached to him and couldn't imagine that there would be a day when I'd learn to live without him.
I had so many questions to ask and so many doubts to clear, but we wouldn't listen to me. Whenever I wanted to bring up a conversation about the witch goddess and why she cursed him, he always waved it off.
I maintained eye contact with him, wanting to tell him about what I heard him say, but swallowed hard and changed my mind.
"I guessed as much, and for the record, this would be the last time that I would bring up this conversation ever again," I said, forcing out a smile.
"I promise to tell you everything at the right time; please just be patient with me and let's handle one problem at a time."
I smiled at him as we walked inside the house and held hands.
"Can you help turn on the fire?" I politely asked him.
"Sure!" he responded as he took the stones from my hand.
I stepped forward, close to the fire, as he lit it. I took out the fish I caught from the wrap of leaves. He watched me smoke them and didn't utter a word as I turned, and I caught him smiling at me.
"You'll make a good wife and mother." He voiced out while my eyes widened in shock.
"Did you have to say that?" I whispered as I giggled at him.
"Come here," he said as he pulled me to himself and held my waist.
There was suspense in our midst; it felt like time suddenly stopped ticking. He was so close that I heard him breathe. Our eyes were locked up in each other.
He smiled, moved his fingers slowly to my jaw, and pulled it a bit. "Thank you for being who you are."
I was speechless; I lost my voice. "Was I in love with this stranger? I only knew him for a few days, and I already feel I can't live without him." I thought.
"You don't deserve any of those things that you went through because you're different, and I promise to help you in any way I can to seek justice." He smiled again, this time broader.
I couldn't hold what I felt anymore as I darted my eyes to his lips; they looked soft and so pink. They were carved into a perfect shape, and I couldn't resist the words he filled my ears and heart with.
I moved a step closer, and his scent filled my nose. Even though we weren't in the best position, his body could still produce such scents.
He was still talking when I closed my eyes, placed my hands on his chest, and planted a kiss on his lips. His lips were still open when I met him.
I could feel how shocked he was, but I didn't care as he deepened the kiss with my lips. A few seconds later, he kissed me back and pulled my waist close to him.
I heard his heartbeat; that was how close we were. He dipped his fingers into my hair and inserted his tongue into my mouth.
I grabbed his shirt tighter and pushed him to the wall. A mild smile appeared on his face as he raised his hands to surrender. I smirked as I stared at his chest and placed my fingers against him while my eyes were on him.
I kissed him again, and this time he lifted me to his waist and used his hands slowly to pace his way under my gown. I closed my eyes, trying to chase the memories that came flashing back.
I tightened them, but it felt like the memories were overthrowing me and were too strong for me to bear as I screamed and jumped out of his hold.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I can't." I began to cry.
"Please don't cry. It's all my fault," he said as he held me.
"You did nothing; I started it all; I missed you when you least expected it." I sobbed.
"I think we shouldn't repeat such; you're not ready, no matter how you think you feel." He held my hands.
"Alzred, where have you been all my life? Why didn't you come so soon? But you chose to make me suffer." I cried, hitting his chest.
"I'm here right now and will always be." He smiled and kissed my forehead.
"I apologize for putting you in such a state, and I promise to make it up to you," I said, staring into his eyes.
