Chapter 3 - Death Strom Chapter 3 The Red Haired Stranger

Death Strom — Chapter 3: The Red-Haired Stranger

The forest still smelled of burnt air where the portal had vanished. Wisps of blue energy faded like dying fireflies.

Usuki sat in the dirt, his breath uneven, staring at the empty space where his way home had once glowed.

Kanshiki broke the silence first.

"Come. You shouldn't stay here."

Usuki didn't move. His hands trembled slightly. Was it real? The cold soil beneath his fingers said yes.

Kanshiki's voice softened, though it carried the weight of command.

"You will freeze here by dawn. There is a village down the valley. I'll take you there."

---

They walked beneath a violet sky. Crickets hummed. Usuki's sneakers crunched over the dry path beside Kanshiki's silent, measured steps.

After a while, Usuki asked quietly, "You said I'm trapped. What happens now?"

"You learn," Kanshiki replied. "You survive."

"Survive in a world of ninjas?" Usuki gave a short, hopeless laugh. "I can't even do push-ups."

Kanshiki glanced at him. "Strength here isn't born in muscle. It's born in movement, intent, and balance. If you listen, I'll teach you the rules of this world."

They stopped near a river that glowed faintly under the moonlight. Fireflies drifted above the surface like floating sparks.

"Everything here," Kanshiki began, kneeling to touch the water, "runs on Elemental Essence. It flows through the body like blood, but only those who master their motion can draw it out. The world has many elements—fire, wind, lightning, earth, water, snow… even death itself."

He lifted a small droplet of water with his fingertips; it hovered in the air before falling back.

"Every movement you make while focused bends that essence. A true warrior learns to blend stance and element until they are one."

Usuki listened, half-lost between wonder and fear.

"So anyone can learn it?"

"Yes. But choice is final. Once a soul resonates with one element, it belongs to it forever."

Kanshiki stood and faced him fully. "Long ago, seven elements rose above all others—called the Special Grades. The most dangerous among them was Death. A man once wielded it, and nearly erased the world. They called him the Dream Seeker. No one knows if he was human or something far older."

Usuki swallowed hard. "So he destroyed everything… alone?"

Kanshiki's covered eye gleamed faintly in the dark.

"Almost. The records end before the final battle. Some say the earth itself sealed him beneath it."

Usuki looked away, chills crawling up his spine. "Sounds like a legend."

"Perhaps," Kanshiki said. "But every legend begins as truth."

---

They reached a hill overlooking a wide training ground. Dozens of torches circled the field. Young warriors moved in rhythm—flames twisting around their fists, lightning crackling along blades, gusts slicing through wooden dummies.

Kanshiki folded his arms.

"These are students from the great clans. Each clan has its pride."

He pointed as he spoke:

"The Kisuke Clan, known for their lightning mastery and a rare eye power called Tenshoudha. Only three in history have awakened it."

"The Ishuko Clan, masters of flame, fierce and restless."

"And the Clandae Clan, unyielding defenders who mold the earth itself."

Usuki watched, breathless. Every punch, every spark, every blast of energy painted the night with color.

"So…" he whispered, "this is the world I'm stuck in."

Kanshiki nodded slowly. "If fate placed you here, it means this world expects something of you. And until we learn what, you'll stay under my protection."

Usuki turned to him, eyes wide. "You're really going to help me?"

Kanshiki smirked faintly, the scar on his cheek tightening.

"I wouldn't let a boy from another timeline die on his first night."

A spark of warmth flickered inside Usuki's chest for the first time since the portal vanished.

"Then… what do I do now?"

"Rest," Kanshiki said, walking toward the village lights. "Tomorrow, we begin."

Usuki followed, the sound of his steps mixing with distant thunder. The night sky stretched above them, deep and endless—like the unknown destiny waiting ahead.
