Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : The Awakening

The view of the morning sky was quite clear. A man emerged from the forest, before him stood a giant wall—the Walls, where humanity was now sheltering. The young man was Han Yu, 19 years old and 173 centimeters tall.

"Looks like I need to get my Luminary license."

A few hours earlier, he had suddenly woken up from a strange dream he kept having. In the dream, he was in a very dark, quiet place, completely devoid of anything. There, he saw countless eyes staring at him.

"Go and see your world!!"

There was a sense of pressure in those words, and Han Yu couldn't resist it, and finally woke up. He was shocked to feel his body becoming lighter, stronger, and his senses sharpening.

"This condition?! Have I awakened?"

"Is this the physical type? But I feel something is strange..."

He didn't pay much attention to it, as he had already risen and decided to go out to get his license. He got ready, wearing black, from his shirt to his pants, with a small red scarf.

Han Yu exited his house in the middle of the forest and began walking. After exiting the forest, a giant dome appeared before him.

He began running very quickly toward the dome, until he finally reached the gate—a guard was guarding it. The guard noticed someone trying to enter.

"What's the matter?"

"I'm going to the Beacon Union to get my Luminary license card. I just awakened to the physical type."

The guard was a little surprised, but quickly opened the gate and motioned for Han Yu to enter.

The Beacon Union is a central institution built within The Walls—it functions as a rank regulator and Luminary registration. It serves as a border defense, protecting The Walls from aberrant invasion. Furthermore, research on Etherion and cracks is ongoing. Some scientists are still studying this energy and how cracks can appear on Earth.

After entering The Walls, Han Yu strolled through several establishments, including a roast beef shop, where he stopped to shop.

"I'd like one medium roast beef."

"Okay, 15 silver coins."

Han Yu paid for the order and took the meat.

"Thank you for shopping here."

Han Yu nodded and continued on his way.

A few moments later, he arrived in front of The Beacon Union—a very large and imposing office. Han Yu entered the building and went to the reception desk, which was manned by a woman. The woman was surprised to see Han Yu's handsome face and a little nervous.

"E-Excuse me, sir, what do you need?"

"I'd like to register as a Luminary. I just woke up this morning."

"Yes, sir, here's your number. You can go to the Luminary room on your right."

"Thank you."

The receptionist blushed slightly.

"Number 38, it seems a little late."

Han Yu proceeded to the special room to check his Luminary rank and abilities. He sat down and waited. Beside him was a young man about his age—short black hair and luxurious clothing.

He attracted attention because he was the son of the southern city lord. Elias Regalith—son of the southern city lord of Nifteim.

_Has the southern city lord's son also awakened?_

_Looks like something interesting is going to happen here._

Some people began to murmur about Elias, but he paid them no attention. Elias then focused his gaze on the person sitting to his left, Han Yu.

"It seems you've also awakened to the Luminary, huh?"

"I see."

"What abilities did you gain?"

"It seems physical, because I feel my body has become stronger, lighter, and my senses have sharpened."

"I see... My abilities seem mystical, because I've gained a closer sense of space-time."

"Mystical abilities? That's amazing, your potential is limitless."

Han Yu was amazed by Elias's abilities, as they were mystical abilities related to space-time.

Each Luminary awakens different abilities, ranging from speed, strength, water, fire, healing, soul, illusion, and time. There are several classifications for defining abilities: physical, elemental, and mystical.

Physical abilities focus on strength, speed, reflexes, and enhanced senses. They are incredibly physically powerful Luminaries, and they can manipulate Etherion, which becomes both a part of their body and a weapon.

Elemental abilities focus on natural elements such as fire, water, ice, earth, electricity, wind, darkness, light, and others. They are powerful Luminaries in both long-range and close-range combat, and they use elements as weapons—although not as physically powerful.

Mystical abilities focus on supernatural things such as illusions, souls, time, probability, and space. They are special luminaries, as Mysticism is a rare ability. In battle, Mystical Luminaries can be overwhelmingly superior to Physical and Elemental Luminaries due to their ability to manipulate the supernatural.

After a while, number 37, Elias, was called to enter the registration room. Once inside, Elias was confronted by a giant pillar that held the key to determining his rank and abilities. In the center of the pillar was a pentagonal crystal, and Elias was instructed to touch it.

Upon touching the crystal, the top of the pillar slowly began to glow gold, revealing Elias's abilities and rank.

Everyone present was shocked by Elias's abilities, as it was a mystical ability, a rare ability. They were also surprised to see Elias's rank was C, as the average Luminary's starting rank is F.

"It's only natural that his rank would be C. He's the son of the southern city lord and is among the top 10 strongest Luminaries in the world. Furthermore, his mystical abilities are extremely rare and he possesses limitless potential. A C indicates that this person is a genius—he could very well surpass his father."

"Indeed, my mystical ability is definitely space-time... A C rank isn't a bad rank; I'm above most Luminaries."

A few moments later, he was given the completed Luminary license.

Name: Elias Regalith

Ability: Mysticism

Age: 19

Rank: C

Origin: Nifteim

He then exited the room, and the person numbered 38, Han Yu, was invited in.

When Han Yu and Elias passed each other, Elias smiled and put his hand on Han Yu's shoulder.

"Good luck..."

"Thank you!"

Han Yu immediately entered the room. He instructed them to touch the pentagonal crystal, which would detect their ability type and rank.

In an instant, the top of the pillar darkened, revealing Han Yu's mystical ability and C rank. The examiners were shocked, including Han Yu. He hadn't expected his ability to be mystical, even though he thought it was physical.

"I can't believe this... Two people with mystical abilities, especially with the same C rank as before?"

"Looks like there's going to be a Luminary who will shake the world..."

*Rank C? And... My ability is mystical? Then why did I feel strong and light earlier?! These are the characteristics of a Luminary with physical abilities... But I'm... Mystical?*

Han Yu was silent for a moment... Before finally coming to his senses and being told to fill out a form so his license could be issued.

Name: Han Yu

Ability: Mystical

Rank: C

Age: 19

Origin: From Beyond the Walls

After receiving his license, he immediately left the room, contemplating something.

_If my ability is mystical, I should already know what I'm connected to..._

"Yo!"

Han Yu was surprised by Elias, who had been waiting for his results.

"How did it go? What's your rank?"

"My rank is C, and my ability is mystical..."

Elias was surprised to hear this, as Han Yu had previously told him that his ability was most likely psychic, but now it's mystical.

They walked out of The Beacon Union while discussing Han Yu's abilities.

"Don't you feel anything? Show me your license."

Han Yu showed his license. Elias was a little surprised, as his ability was truly mystical, its rank C, the same as his, and he was surprised that Han Yu was from Outside the Walls.

Elias then showed his license card. Han Yu was a little surprised because Elias also had a C-Rank.

"Han Yu, if you don't feel anything, it means your ability is rare and mysterious. Every Luminary, from physical to mystical, knows their ability type based on certain factors. Physical focuses on strength, endurance, speed, and so on. If a Luminary feels their strength, endurance, senses, or speed increase, it means they are a physical type. Elemental focuses on sensation. Elemental Luminaries know they have elemental abilities because they experience sensations like heat/cold, exhibit scientific reactions like electric sparks, small flames, and resonance with the environment and natural energies like weather, temperature, wind, and so on. Mystics, on the other hand, focus on external and internal conditions, such as perceiving the Etherion around them, and in their minds, and feeling closer to the aspects related to their abilities."

"Like myself, I can feel closer to space-time, I can sense the Etherion in my surroundings and within my body."

"Your case is rare, as you don't feel anything..."

"Don't worry, Elias. Maybe we'll find out once we enter the battlefield and defeating aberrants..."

"Okay, if that's what you want. Tomorrow I'm going to enter the Rift and defeat some monsters. Would you like to come along? So we can see what you're capable of."

"Is that okay? We're strangers and don't know each other."

"Strangers, you say? Now that we're friends, I'll help you find out what your abilities are."

"Friend? You think of me that way, huh... Thank you, Elias. I'll enter the Rift with you tomorrow."

"You can wait in front of the gate tomorrow. My team and I will be expecting you around 9:00 a.m.."

"Okay..."

They finally returned to their respective places, Elias to the city of Nifteim, while Han Yu returned to his original location, outside the Walls.
