Vivian's POV
The sound of shattering glass cut through the silence like a blade.
Both Liam and I went completely still.
Our breathing stopped. The echo of broken glass seemed to hang in the air between us, a warning that something was very wrong.
Someone had just broken into the house. From the way Liam's expression shifted, this wasn't planned. His face hardened into something I'd never seen before - dangerous and cold.
I felt his hand slip away from my neck, his fingers leaving my skin like he'd been burned. His entire body tensed as he looked toward the bedroom door. Then he moved with sudden, deadly purpose.
Like a switch had been flipped inside him.
When he noticed me stepping toward the door behind him, he stopped. "Stay here." His voice was barely above a whisper, but it carried the weight of an absolute command.
I opened my mouth to protest. "Liam, what if someone-"
One look from him silenced me completely.
