Harrison chuckled softly as he watched the world he once knew, crumbling before his eyes. He slowly pulled his dagger out from the sheath and stared down at the body of a dead man lying on the floor.
Above the firmament was a cracked sky. It loomed over the countless universes like chilling testaments. The world now has two shifting zones…
Safety zone and poison zone. Most unfortunate humans had been caught in a quagmire due to these zones' unnatural shift that if care is not properly taken, they could actually be poisoned and killed without knowing how.
The poisoned zone is like a red world, compressed into the megaverse at will and forced to move. And the more it moved, the more people were ensnared and killed.
No one could guard against it.
Harrison immediately stabbed the dagger into the chest of the corpse. His dagger was quite sharp that it easily tore through the mysterious scales covering the skin of the already dead man.
Harrison had discovered something that no one else had— anyone killed by the poisoned zone or attacked by the intruders, from their dimension, to another, their souls are instantly transformed into energy cores. So, he had started to harvest these cores, hoping that this would be the key aspect to his future cultivation.
Harrison had learnt to be observant. After the world transformed, it was no longer safe. Nothing seemed true. An apple tree could actually turn out to be a tree of death, a crystal lake could become a sea of blood and a farm with corn can turn out to be flocked with snakes.
So Harrison harvested the moonlight pearls. These pearls could actually enhance his sight. After that, he now possessed an excellent vision. He would have become a talented cultivator if not that, most of these resources had been either confiscated or destroyed due to the drastic change of the world.
Not even the elite geniuses could stop these demonic, draconic beings from killing and feasting on one of their kind.
Blood squirted out of the dead body and for a moment, Harrison was stunned… these blood coloured like jade and radiated a divine energy to it.
He still did not understand the concept of these corpse changes. Almost every dead human is transformed, their soul becoming a core. While this core is exceptional, the energy from their blood could also naturally play an important role… that though, he did not know.
Stabbing straight into its heart, he pulled out the dagger, leaving it on the floor and at the same time, digging his hands into the opened gash, trying to find a core.
He watched as the divine aura from this corpse's blood tried to solidify every part of the body that had the actual core in it. Other blood vessels would be left intact, but this particular section, somewhere between the ribcage is thickened with solid blood, allowing its solidity to increase.
If Harrison is not fast enough, his wrist could be chopped off at a moment's notice.
He immediately felt something and quickly pulled, already knowing how it is usually done. No one else apart from him knows of these corpses and that is because no one would care about the dead.
He stared at the beautiful core in his grasp, smeared with blood and guts. He stood up immediately and hid it in his inventory sack. Then, ignoring everything, he picked up his dagger and bolted through the bushes, hearing deep voices coming from behind.
Two strange looking demons walked out of the hidden enclosure and were met with a gory sight.
No one was there, but someone had actually started digging out cores from these dead bodies.
The first demon's expression changed.
"The humans couldn't have known or could they?"
"Elias, let's report this. The overlord wanted to use this invasion as a means to cultivate the twelve ancient draconic abilities. Do you know how many cores that one must take out in order to gain access to just one ancient draconic ability?"
The demon named Elias snickered.
"The little human who is doing this wants to play chase. Let's observe it for a moment. Besides, whoever it is wouldn't have many… in fact, it is possible that they are unaware of the core's true function."
Kronos, the shorter demon frowned. "I still suggest that we report this. Whoever it is would be fished out in an instant."
Elias sneered at Kronos.
"Shut up shorty, do you not know that the dimensional rift is one way, and we were given just two return rings in case of emergency. I don't want to take chances. Let me increase my powers first before making any reports. Huff!"
He started walking towards the bush that Harrison had disappeared into with the shorter demon following behind.

Harrison did not know if he had been discovered but he knew how silently he had snuck towards the bushes. Harrison had not only cultivated excellent vision, but also stealth and a few movement skills that had to do with speed, stealth and agility. If anything, Harrison is already considered as a versatile assassin. He doesn't need terrifying strength to achieve unimaginable feats which is why it has been very easy to outrun even high ranked demons.
