Chapter 1 - She caught my eye

"The rain was coming down in sheets, blurring the neon signs of the city. He stood under the awning of a bookstore, the collar of his dark coat pulled high. Blue eyes, sharp as shards of ice, scanned the street, dismissing everyone... until she walked by.She was clutching a worn copy of "Wuthering Heights" to her chest, her hair plastered to her face by the rain. There was a vulnerability in her posture, a gentleness in the way she navigated the crowded sidewalk, that snagged his attention. He found himself stepping out into the downpour, drawn to her like a moth to a flame.'You'll catch a cold,' he said, his voice a low rumble that cut through the noise of the city. She startled, her eyes, wide and brown, meeting his. 'Oh, um, I... I didn't realize it was raining so hard.' Her voice was soft, hesitant. He stared at her, a strange possessiveness stirring within him. 'Here,' he said, pulling her under the awning with him, 'let me.'"
