Chapter 3: "The Sendoff"

As Nell and her mom headed downstairs, the warm aroma of freshly cooked breakfast wafted up to greet them. The staircase led them to a spacious living room, with cream-colored walls and plush furniture. The room was filled with natural light, streaming in through the large windows that overlooked the front garden.

They walked past the living room and entered a short corridor, lined with family photos and artwork. The corridor opened up into a beautiful dining hall, with a large wooden table at its center. The table was laden with a delicious spread of breakfast dishes, including scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes.

Nell's grandma, Mrs. Adeline, sat at the head of the table, a warm smile on her face. "Good morning, dear," she said, as Nell and her mom took their seats.

As they ate, Nell's mom and grandma exchanged a brief, knowing glance. Nell's dad was a topic rarely discussed, but it was a silence that spoke volumes. Nell had grown up with the understanding that her father had passed away when she was just a baby, a victim of a tragic accident. Her mom and grandma had always been tight-lipped about the details, but the pain and sadness that lingered in their eyes told a story of their own.

As they finished their breakfast, Nell's grandma urged her to hurry up, reminding her that they didn't want to be late. Nell's mom helped her pack her bags, while her grandma handed her a small, wrapped package.

"For good luck, dear," she said, as Nell hugged her tightly.

With their goodbyes said, Nell and her mom carried her bags out to the car. Nell's grandma waved at them from the doorway, a smile on her face.

As they drove away, Nell took the passenger seat, feeling a mix of excitement and nervous. Her mom drove smoothly, navigating the quiet neighborhood streets.

As they approached the main road, the scenery changed, with tall trees and bustling shops giving way to a more urban landscape. After about 40 minutes of driving, Nell caught her first glimpse of Noble University, its imposing buildings rising up in the distance.

"Wow," she breathed, feeling a thrill of excitement. "We're almost there."
