Saturday morning and Grandma is at home. Reina is seen washing plates and as she stacks them up, one falls and breaks into pieces
Grandma: (in Igbo) "you've broken that plate right, that same plate I bought before the Biafra war even your mother doesn't have that kind now you've broken it. Some of your mates are in their husbands' house,do you think any mother-in-law would tolerate all the nonsense you're doing. You can't go to the farm,you can't fetch firewood. All you do is sleep and eat. Sometimes I regret taking you in. I should have just let them do whatever they wanted with you. Since you came here how much have your parents sent for your feeding yet all you do is eat like an elephant."
Reina: (almost crying, picks up the pieces of the plate and goes inside to lie down.)
A few minutes later Grandma comes inside changes her wrapper and goes out to see a friend. She barely leaves the compound when Reina hears a knock on the door.
Reina: "who is it?"
Nnamdi: "Obim, it's me your love. Come and open the door"
Reina: (opens the door and steps outside) "Good evening, this one you're here this late. What's the matter"
Nnamdi: "I wanted to see you na" ( grabs her waist and tried to kiss her)
Reina : (struggles to free herself while landing light blows on his chest) "leave me oo, I'll scream now people will gather. See my grandma is coming"
Nnamdi: (frees her from his grip) "okay. Have you talked to your parents about the marriage. Should I start preparing to pay your bride price"
Reina: (to herself) "ahh bro are you playing, take it easy abeg. Old man like you wants to marry me" (to Nnamdi) "ehnn I've told my mom she said she'll have to talk to my dad first so he's the one we're waiting for"
Nnamdi: "so if he agrees we can marry abi. Heii Thank God oo" (begins to dance around)
Reina: "oya be going before someone sees you now"
Nnamdi: (squeezes a few naira notes into her hand and hurriedly exits the scene into the dark)
Reina: (to herself )"He's a really nice man. Maybe I should just marry him. See how he gave me 3k just like that. It might not be too bad if I marry him oo after all Regina Daniels married that old man. Let me even call mummy. (Picks up her phone and dials her mom's number but it's switched off. Later she falls asleep with her phone on her chest)
