A hot sunny afternoon and as typical of most villagers Reina and the rest sit outside with hand fans suddenly Nnamdi's wife Ekwutos barges into Aunt Grace's compound with long canes

Ekwutos: "Where is that stupid girl, that idiot husband snatcher?. Come outside oo I will deal with you today" (she continues to shout while pounding on the door)

Aunt Grace: (opens the door and comes outside) "what is it? Why are you disturbing my peace. Did you see your husband here" (looks around and picks up a bottle) "I will break this bottle on your head if you don't get out of here now, witch"

Ekwutos: (throws the canes on the floor and tries to grab Grace's legs, the two begin to wrestle, Grace overpowers her and pins her to the ground pouring sand on her face and hair) "Chineke mo ooo. Help me oo" (people gather and the two are separated. Ekwutos begins to cry) "Haew my God why did you allow this girl shame me like this. What did I do to deserve this disgrace. I don't blame her I blame that my useless husband that pursues anything in skirt. If not why will this small girl treat me like this" (Continues to cry until a few sympathizers help her get up and pleads with her to go home to prepare dinner for her children)

Later that evening Nnamdi comes to the house as Reina and Grace sit outside enjoying the wind.

Grace: (gets up to hug him) "Nkem how are you? How was work today? Have you eaten? "

Nnamdi: (putting his hands on her shoulders) "I'm fine oo. Those palm fruits are almost ripe. Very soon we'll be making money."

Reina: "Good evening sir" (tries to leave the scene but Nnamdi calls her back)

Nnamdi: "Don't go now. Am I pursuing you, sit down I want to talk to you"

Grace: "Allow her to go, maybe she's feeling sleepy"

Reina: (nods in agreement) "yes I want to sleep now"

Nnamdi: "I disagree, sit here with us let's talk"

Reina: (reluctantly sits down) "okay sir"

Nnamdi: "Good girl. I hope you've spoken to your parents because I want to start the wine carrying ceremony after this planting season. No time to waste time"

Reina: "When I spoke to my Mom she disagreed but after much persuasive she changed her dad but my dad doesn't want to talk about it"

Nnamdi: "Okay maybe by the time I impregnate you they'll agree" (laughs strangely and coughs)

Reina: (smiling nervously while questioning aunty Grace)

Grace: "Don't mind them. This time she'll give birth to twins, two boys"

Reina: "No oo I'm not ready oo. Maybe in four years time"

Nnamdi: "Tahh!! What do you mean?. You want people to think I'm not capable. Once this your baby clocks one year you'll be pregnant "

Grace: "Gbam! I trust you. Odogwu Nwoke"

Nnamdi: "Before I forget. I wanted to inform you that I've found a house. Although the place is small and you know you're very tall your head might even reach the ceiling. You'll manage it like that ehn, that's the only one I could find. I've searched everywhere"

Grace: "Don't worry Nkem she'll manage it like that. It's just for now"

Reina: (looking at the duo with disgust) "I've heard you. When are we going to see the house"

Nnamdi: "Sunday should be fine. You'll tell your Grandma you can't go to church. Better form sickness for her, then I'll come and pick you and your aunty later"

Grace: (interrupting) "Don't worry I'll arrange everything "

Reina: "okay then.. I'm going to bed already. Good night"

Nnamdi: (stands up to leave) "I'm going too" (motions to Reina to come aside with him and squeezes a few naira notes in her hand) "take this one for baby"

Reina: "Thank you"

(Back in her room, Reina wonders if she's doing the right thing, after much conviction she claims she's doing it to secure a good future for her baby)
