Kaya stole a glance at Leo, a new understanding dawning on her. So Nami and Makino had already been through the same process with him.
He really is a mischievous one, she thought, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
"Nami, what was that you said?" Leo asked, a playful, knowing smirk on his face as he looked at the orange-haired navigator. With the power of the Heal-Heal Fruit at his disposal, he was confident he could make Nami regret her teasing for hours.
Nami immediately stuck her tongue out at him and ducked behind Makino, quickly surrendering. "Nothing! I said nothing!" Though she often bantered and argued with Leo, she knew better than to truly challenge him. The consequences would be... exhaustive. Her body desperately needed a few days of rest.
Seeing Nami yield, Leo raised an eyebrow in triumph and led his crew to enjoy the dinner Makino had prepared.
....
Later that night, alone in his room, Leo finally turned his attention to his reward.
The system's prompt had arrived the moment he had fully won Kaya over. "Claim reward," he commanded mentally.
[Congratulations, Host. Obtained the Logia-type: Weather-Weather Fruit.]
In a flash of white light, a Devil Fruit adorned with swirling, multi-colored patterns appeared before him. Leo stared at it, his heart rate quickening.
Why was he so excited?
Because "weather" wasn't a single element. It was an entire system. Just off the top of his head, it encompassed wind, rain, thunder, lightning, clouds, snow, frost, and mist. This meant that by eating this single fruit, the user could potentially develop and control multiple elements simultaneously.
Monet's Snow-Snow Fruit abilities? Check.
The destructive power of Enel's Rumble-Rumble Fruit, reputed to be the strongest among Logia types? Check.
The rumored wind-based powers of Dragon the Revolutionary? Check.
It had everything. It was utterly, completely broken.
Leo took a deep breath to calm his soaring excitement. There was no question about who this fruit was for: Nami.
She was a genius navigator, inherently attuned to reading and understanding the weather. This fruit was a perfect match for her talents. Furthermore, while they constantly bickered, Leo saw it as their unique way of flirting. Who said flirting had to be all about kissing and cuddling? He held a particular soft spot for Nami. And, since he would share the abilities of any system-bestowed fruit, it was a win-win situation.
Extremely pleased, he stored the Weather-Weather Fruit safely, planning to give it to Nami as a surprise later.
.....
Several days passed.
Inside the mansion, Kaya finally understood why Leo had chosen to linger for a few extra days. Before her, bound and gagged, were three struggling men: Jango, Samuel, and Butchie.
The trio writhed furiously, their efforts to escape futile. Jango, in particular, was completely bewildered. Just a few days ago, Captain Kuro had contacted them, assuring them the plan was proceeding smoothly and everything was under control. He'd told them to stand by for the signal to act. They had waited, but when the appointed time came and went with no word from Kuro, they'd decided to investigate. The moment they showed their faces, they were instantly subdued.
"Leo, who are these men?" Kaya asked, eyeing the captives with concern.
Leo took a slow sip of tea before answering. "Kuro's lackeys. Core members of the Black Cat Pirates." He set his cup down. "Kuro's plan was for them to attack the village, create a diversion. In the chaos, he would have hypnotized you," he said, pointing at Jango, "into writing a will that left everything to him, allowing him to legally seize your family's fortune. Oh, and he's the hypnotist I mentioned before."
"You bastard! Where's Captain Kuro?! What did you do to him?!" Jango roared, his identity exposed.
An angry Nami stepped forward and delivered a sharp kick. "Shut up! You're in no position to be making demands!"
"What do you think happened? I sent him on a one-way trip," Leo responded, his tone casual, as if discussing the weather. He then shook his head in disdain. "Honestly, Kuro was an idiot. A gentle, beautiful, and generous young lady like Miss Kaya? The smart play would have been to win her heart properly, then get married." He grinned. "Then you get the girl and the fortune. Isn't that a much better way to step into the sunlight? His vision was far too narrow."
Kaya blushed deeply at Leo's praise, lowering her head slightly. She secretly wished he would compliment her more.
"Heh, as if someone like you could defeat the captain!" Jango scoffed, looking Leo up and down with contempt. In all of the East Blue, he could count on one hand the people capable of beating Kuro, and this guy wasn't one of them.
Leo couldn't be bothered wasting breath on such small fries. In a series of rapid Instant Transmission jumps, he transported each of the trussed-up pirates to the same deserted island. They wanted to see Kuro? Well, now they could. Permanently.
He reappeared moments later. It was done. The local wildlife had been... efficient.
Turning them over to the Marines? Ha. The thought was laughable. Letting vile scum like this live, only for them to potentially get a slap on the wrist and a chance to "turn over a new leaf" later? Leo preferred a more final form of justice.
When Leo returned to the main hall, the women knew the matter was settled. None of them asked for details or mourned the fate of Kuro's crew.
Leo clapped his hands together, his mood light. "Alright, my lovely crewmates, the trash has been taken out. It's time to set sail for our next destination."
Kaya jumped for joy. "Yes! Finally, I get to go to sea!" A dream she'd held for over a decade was finally coming true.
"Thank you, Leo," she said, and before she could lose her nerve, she leaned forward and gave him a quick, shy peck on the cheek.
"Let's go!" Nami cheered, also caught up in the excitement. Despite their constant bickering, her time with Leo had brought her a sense of security she'd never known before.
"It seems I've joined a rather wonderful pirate crew," Makino said with her characteristic gentle smile, following behind them. "With a rather wonderful Captain."
As they stepped out of the mansion's main gate, they found Usopp waiting for them, shifting nervously from foot to foot.
"Kaya..." he began, his voice tight with emotion. "Are you... are you really leaving Syrup Village?"
Kaya looked at Leo, then back at her childhood friend, her smile warm but resolute. "Yes, Usopp. I'm going to sea with Leo. I'm going to see the outside world. I don't think I'll be back for a long time."
Usopp's shoulders slumped in defeat. After a moment of silence, he suddenly looked up, a desperate hope in his eyes as he addressed Leo. "Then... can I join your pirate crew?!"
Leo stared at him.
Rejected! was the immediate thought in his mind. But just as he was about to form a polite refusal, he paused. His senses, heightened by Observation Haki, picked up on something in the distance. A slow, knowing smile spread across his face.
"Usopp," Leo said, his tone not unkind. "I'm afraid my crew wouldn't be the right fit for you." He gestured with his chin towards the coastline beyond the village. "But don't worry. The crew that is meant for you... I believe it's arriving just about now."
