"Miss Donna," a lady in a beautiful formal outfit called out to the slender and casually dressed young woman with long golden-brown hair who was looking around the fully decorated wedding hall with a huge smile on her lips.
The young woman named Donna turned around at the voice of her event planner and answered with a "Yes, Emily?" The previously huge smile on her face had reduced, but one could see the twinkle in her eye caused by immense happiness.
"It's getting late. Everything has been looked over, and there is no problem at all, so why don't you go home? The driver's waiting outside," Emily stated.
"Oh," Donna looked over at the floor-to-ceiling windows on the wall of the wedding hall and saw that the sky was already painted in hues of orange and purple. She turned back, "Have you told the caterer about the new addition?"
Emily smiled politely, "Yes, Miss Donna. You asked the moment you arrived."
Donna gave an apologetic smile, "Oh, I'm sorry I forgot. With all the excitement and preparation, I couldn't help but forget some things."
"It's alright, it's normal to be like this. After all, you're getting married in a few hours."
At the mention of her marriage, which was going to happen in two days, Donna couldn't help but pat her cheeks, which had turned red while grinning, making Emily chuckle.
She couldn't believe that she would tie the bond with the love of her life in thirteen hours!
"Seeing the venue all set up like this just makes it feel so real," Donna said, her voice tinged with excitement. She took a moment to soak in the ambiance of the wedding hall, envisioning the joyous occasion that awaited her.
Emily nodded in understanding. "It's going to be a beautiful celebration, Miss Donna. Everything is perfect; you don't need to worry about anything."
Donna smiled appreciatively at Emily's words. "Thank you, Emily. I couldn't have done it without your help."
As they walked through the hall, Donna's eyes drifted to the elegant decorations and floral arrangements. Each detail was carefully chosen to reflect her and Chris's love story. She couldn't wait to share this special day with her family and friends.
Just then, Donna's phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out to see a text from Jin, her sister, telling her to come to Chris' house; she had a surprise for her.
Donna smiled wider before putting her phone back in her jeans pocket and turning to Emily. "Alright, I will be taking my leave."
Emily nodded in acknowledgment. "No problem, Miss Donna. Have a good evening."
Donna waved goodbye to Emily and made her way out of the wedding hall. As she stepped outside, the cool evening air greeted her, brushing against the white shirt and fair skin of her collarbone. She spotted her driver waiting by the car and approached him with a smile.
"Good evening, Miss Donna," the driver greeted her warmly.
"Good evening, James," Donna replied, opening the car door and sliding into the backseat.
James started the engine, and the car pulled away from the venue, gliding smoothly through the streets of Orleon City located in The United Southern Empire, a country in the continent with the most prominent families. Donna glanced out of the window, watching the familiar high-rise buildings pass by in a blur of lights and colors.
Her mind wandered to the surprise Jin had mentioned. Donna couldn't help but feel curious about what her sister and fiance had planned.
As they neared Chris' mansion, Donna's curiosity grew. She couldn't wait to see what Jin had in store for her. The car came to a stop, and James turned to her with a smile.
"We're here, Miss Donna," he announced.
"Thank you, James," Donna said, returning his smile as she exited the car. She made her way to the entrance of the house, excitement bubbling within her.
The large antique double doors opened, and the butler greeted her, "Miss Donna."
Donna smiled at the old man who always had a blank face, "Butler Ye, how are you doing?"
"I'm fine, Miss Donna. Please come in," Butler Ye said, moving to the side and gesturing for her to come in.
She beamed, "Thank you."
As Donna entered the mansion, she was greeted by the familiar warmth of the grand foyer. The polished marble floors reflected the soft glow of the chandeliers above, casting an ethereal light throughout the space.
Donna's anticipation grew as she followed the familiar path through the mansion, exchanging greetings with the maids.
She went to the living room first but didn't find anyone, then the music room, then the art gallery, even the backyard.
She furrowed her brow in confusion. Jin had seemed so eager for her to come over, so why wasn't she anywhere in the mansion?
She reached for her phone, considering texting Jin to let her know she was already in the mansion, but then she remembered Jin's text had instructed her to look for them. Perhaps they were busy with the surprise.
She went upstairs, looking through all the rooms; the library, the study, and finally, she arrived at the door of Chris' bedroom. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should knock or just walk in. Deciding that it was her house too, she gently pushed the door open and stepped inside.
She walked into the luxuriously decorated master bedroom with a conjoined parlor and glanced around the silent and lit surroundings.
"Jin? Chris?" Donna's voice echoed through the room, but there was no response. She took a few steps further into the living room and saw pieces of men's and women's clothing on the couch, floor, and table as if someone had hastily discarded them. Donna's brows furrowed in confusion and doubt. This wasn't what she had expected to find.
She moved slowly through the parlor, calling out for Jin and Chris again, but still, there was no answer.
What was happening? Weren't they in the mansion? Then why'd she send a message to her telling her to come, and if they were in the mansion, where were they?
It was only when she reached the door connecting the bedroom to the parlor did she hear faint sounds. Immediately, she walked towards the bedroom where the sounds were coming from.
Fearing that whatever was happening was what she was thinking, she hurriedly opened the door and rushed into the room.
"Jin–" As Donna stepped into the bedroom, her words caught in her throat as she froze in shock at the scene before her, even after she'd guessed it.
Jin was there, tangled in the sheets of the bed, but she wasn't alone. Donna's eyes widened as she took in the sight of her fiancé, Chris Wyatt, lying beside her, their bodies sweaty, filled with hickeys and intertwined in a way that left no doubt about what they had been doing.
For a moment, Donna couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The air seemed to constrict around her, suffocating her with the weight of betrayal and disbelief.
Chris's eyes snapped open at the sound of Donna's gasp, and he sat up abruptly, his expression shifting from annoyance to surprise back to annoyance.
"What are you doing here?" he questioned with a frown on his face, not a trace of guilt or shame on his expression.
"I told her to come, Chris." Jin's sweet voice cut through the tense atmosphere, and Donna turned to see her sister sitting up in bed, her golden hair tousled and a smirk playing on her lips.
"Donna, darling, what a surprise to see you here," Jin continued, her tone dripping with mock innocence as she stared at Donna who was dressed in a simple white shirt and blue high-waist jeans before mouthing to Donna, "This was the surprise I had for you sister,"
