Chapter 3 - THE STRANGER IN THE HALL

"Luna, you have a visitor," Jenna whispered, leaning against the side of her desk.

"A visitor?" Luna asked, glancing up from her computer screen.

"Who would be visiting me without an appointment?

Jenna shrugged, her voice dropping lower. "She didn't give her name.

Just walked in confidently like she owned the place.

Said she wanted to wait by the elevator.

Luna's brows drew together.

"That's unusual.

Did she look like a client?

"Not really," Jenna said, fidgeting.

 "She looked… familiar somehow.

Almost like you. Same height, same build, even similar hair.

 It was unsettling.

Luna's pulse quickened, though she forced a smile. "I'll go see her.

She stood, smoothing her skirt, and walked toward the elevator.

The office was buzzing with soft chatter, but her attention sharpened on the figure standing near the glass wall.

A woman, poised and calm, dressed in a fitted black suit with a white blouse.

Her hair fell in loose waves, dark and glossy, catching the sunlight that spilled through the window.

The woman turned slightly, and Luna froze.

The resemblance was uncanny.

"Good afternoon," the woman said, her voice silky and warm, yet carrying an undertone that unsettled Luna.

"Good afternoon," Luna replied, her tone polite but cautious.

 "Can I help you?

The woman's lips curved in a nice smile.

 "Perhaps.

I was just passing through and thought I might introduce myself, I'm Selina Cross.

"Luna Alaric," Luna replied automatically, extending her hand.

Selina's grip was firm, steady, but the contact sent an odd sensation through Luna's skin.

Not pain, not warmth, but something sharper.

She withdrew her hand quickly, forcing herself not to show the discomfort.

"It's a beautiful building," Selina said, glancing around. "Carrington Group has quite the reputation.

"Yes, it does," Luna agreed carefully. "Are you here on business?

Selina tilted her head slightly.

 "In a way.

I've heard about you. People speak highly of your work.

Luna felt her guard rise.

"That's kind of you, May I ask from where you've heard about me?

Selina's smile lingered, unreadable.

"Oh, from here and there.

The corporate world is small.

Talented people like you are always noticed.

Something in her tone made Luna's instincts flare.

Not the words themselves, but the way they lingered, deliberate and watchful.

"Well, I appreciate the compliment," Luna said, trying to keep her voice light.

"But I should get back to work.

Was there something specific you needed?

Selina studied her closely, her eyes dark and steady.

"Not yet, Perhaps another time.

Before Luna could respond, Selina turned and pressed the elevator button.

The doors slid open, and she stepped inside without another word.

Luna stood there, her heart beating faster than before.

She could not explain it, but the encounter had unsettled her.

Selina's presence carried weight, an energy that felt sharp and dangerous, though no reason for it was visible.

"Who was she?" Jenna asked, appearing suddenly at Luna's side.

"Selina Cross," Luna said softly.

"She said she just wanted to introduce herself.

"Jenna frowned.

"That's strange, She looked I don't know, she gave me chills.

Like she wasn't supposed to be here.

"You're not the only one," Luna murmured.

Back at her desk, Luna tried to focus on her reports, but her mind kept drifting to the encounter.

The way Selina's eyes had lingered, the subtle edge in her voice, the uncanny resemblance.

It was as if Selina had stepped into her world deliberately, leaving a mark of unease behind.

By mid-afternoon, Luna noticed more oddities.

Papers missing from her desk drawer, a pen she had just used now gone, colleagues whispering in corners when she passed.

Each small disturbance pressed against her instincts.

"Jenna, have you noticed people acting differently today?Luna asked.

"Yes," Jenna replied quickly.

"It's not just me, right? Everyone seems on edge.

Luna nodded. "It started before Selina arrived, but now it feels stronger.

"You think she has something to do with it?

"I don't know," Luna admitted. "But something about her didn't feel right.

Later that afternoon, Damien stopped by her office.

He leaned casually against the doorframe, his eyes thoughtful.

"Who was that woman you met earlier?

"Selina Cross," Luna said, her tone even. "Do you know her?

"I've heard the name," Damien replied.

"She's been mentioned in some corporate circles.

 Ambitious,Sharp.

Some say she has her eyes on positions of influence, though no one knows her true agenda.

Luna felt her pulse quicken again, "She didn't give a reason for visiting.

Just introduced herself and left.

Damien's gaze sharpened. "That's unusual. People like her don't make casual visits.

"I felt the same," Luna said quietly.

"There was something in her presence I can't explain, It felt… threatening.

Damien studied her closely.

"Trust your instincts, They're usually right.

When he left, Luna sat back, staring out the window.

The city stretched wide and endless, but her focus remained on one figure.

Selina Cross, Her name already felt like a shadow settling across her life.

As evening approached, Luna packed her things.

The office had quieted, but she still felt that sense of being watched.

Stepping into the hallway, she paused, listening.

Nothing but the hum of lights and the faint echo of footsteps far below.

Still, the unease clung to her.

"Good night, Luna," Jenna called as she gathered her own things.

"Good night, Jenna," Luna replied, forcing a smile.

Outside, the night air was cool, but even the breeze could not shake the weight in her chest.

She walked toward her car, her senses sharp. Every sound of traffic, every flicker of movement on the street registered with unusual intensity.

She slid into the driver's seat and locked the doors.

For a moment, she sat still, hands on the wheel, eyes scanning the mirrors.

Nothing unusual, yet the feeling lingered.

Selina Cross had appeared once, but Luna knew instinctively it would not be the last.

The threat was unspoken, subtle, but undeniable.

Something had begun, and she was at the center of it.
