Chapter 7 - SHADOW IN MIRROR

"Morning Luna, you are early again," Jenna said as she entered the lobby of Carrington Group, clutching her coffee cup and yawning.

"I like to start my day calm," Luna replied, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. "If I arrive before the rush, I have a few quiet minutes to breathe.

Jenna laughed. "You and your quiet minutes. Meanwhile, I almost tripped over my shoelace running to catch the bus.

Luna gave her a gentle smile. "That is why you should prepare the night before.

"I know, I know, you sound like my mom," Jenna teased.

They walked toward the elevator together. But before the doors closed, Luna caught sight of something at the far end of the lobby. A figure stood near the glass doors, poised, graceful, with dark hair pulled into the same sleek bun Luna wore today.

The woman lifted her hand to tuck a strand behind her ear. The motion was eerily familiar.

"Do you see that?" Luna whispered.

Jenna leaned forward. "See what?

"That woman by the entrance," Luna said softly.

Jenna squinted. "She kind of looks like you from this angle.

The elevator doors slid shut, and Luna's reflection stared back at her in the metallic surface. She shook her head, unsettled.

At lunch, Luna sat with Damien and Marcus in the company cafeteria. She stirred her salad absentmindedly while the men discussed a new contract.

"Luna, you seem distracted," Damien said, lowering his voice. "Is something wrong?

"Maybe," she replied carefully. "This morning, I saw someone who looked… too much like me.

Marcus chuckled. "Like a doppelgänger? Maybe you have a twin you never knew about.

Luna did not return his smile. "It was not just her looks. The way she stood, the way she moved. It was almost like she had studied me.

Damien's brow furrowed. "Where did you see her?

"In the lobby. Jenna saw her too, though she thought it was just a resemblance.

"Resemblances happen," Marcus said, trying to lighten the mood.

But Damien kept his eyes on Luna. "I do not think Luna is the type to exaggerate."

"Thank you," Luna said softly.

Later that afternoon, Luna and Jenna left the office for a quick errand. As they stepped into a nearby café, Luna froze.

The same woman stood at the counter, ordering coffee. Her posture was identical to Luna's. She tilted her head the same way Luna often did when deciding on a menu.

When she smiled at the barista, even the curve of her lips seemed stolen.

Jenna gasped. "That is her. Luna, she really does look like you.

Luna nodded, heart pounding. "Not just look. Watch closely.

The woman accepted her coffee and stepped aside, pulling a small notebook from her bag. She flipped it open and scribbled something with quick, neat handwriting.

Luna's own notebook sat in her bag, filled with the same kind of small, tidy letters.

"She is copying you," Jenna whispered, astonished.

Luna finally walked toward the counter, her heels clicking against the floor. The woman glanced up, and for the first time, their eyes met. A shiver ran down Luna's spine. The stranger's eyes were darker, sharper, filled with something unreadable.

The woman's lips curved. "Hello.

Jenna blinked. "She even sounds like you.

Luna steadied herself. "Do I know you?

The woman tilted her head. "Not yet." Then she smiled, turned, and walked out with her coffee.

Jenna grabbed Luna's arm. "Okay, that was weird. She knew she looked like you, and she wanted you to see it.

"Yes," Luna whispered. "It felt intentional.

That evening, Luna sat with Damien in his office, going over the day's events.

"She appeared at the café today," Luna said. "She spoke to me.

"What did she say?" Damien asked.

"'Not yet.' That was her answer when I asked if I knew her.

Damien frowned deeply. "That sounds like a challenge.

"I do not like it," Luna admitted. "There is something unnatural about her presence. It is not a coincidence.

Damien leaned back in his chair. "If she is imitating you, she is not just some stranger. She has a purpose. But what does she want?"

"That is what I need to find out," Luna replied, though a knot tightened in her chest.

The next day, the situation grew stranger. As Luna arrived at Carrington Group, several colleagues gave her odd looks. One whispered to another, pointing discreetly.

"Is something wrong?" Luna asked Jenna as they walked to the office.

"People are acting strange. Did you notice?" Jenna replied.

"Yes. Why?

"Because…" Jenna hesitated. "They think they already saw you this morning. But we just walked in together.

Luna stopped in her tracks.

"You mean she was here again?

Jenna nodded.

"Someone said you were at the reception desk earlier, asking about deliveries. But that was impossible, because you were upstairs with me.

Luna clenched her fists.

"She is moving into my space. She is making people confuse us.

Later, during a meeting, Marcus leaned over to Luna.

"Strange thing, Luna. I thought I saw you leaving the building about an hour ago. But here you are.

"It was not me," Luna replied firmly.

Marcus raised an eyebrow. "So there really is another you walking around?

"It seems so," she whispered.

Damien, sitting across the table, did not take his eyes off Luna.

That night, Luna stood before her mirror at home. She studied her reflection, her face calm but her eyes restless.

"Who are you?" she whispered to the silent room. "And why me?

Her wolf senses stirred faintly beneath her skin, a restless energy that told her this was more than coincidence. Whoever Selina was, she was not an ordinary woman.

Jenna called a little later. "Luna, I do not want to scare you, but I swear I just saw her outside your building. Same coat as you, same bag. She even looked up toward your window.

Luna's breath caught. She moved to the window and looked down at the street. The shadows shifted, but no one stood there now.

"She is not just imitating me," Luna said quietly. "She is following me.
