Knowledge for excellence, security and service.
Through science we change.
Every soldier who servedas a military scientist knew this words by heart, many allowed it to rule every aspect of their existence.
Colonel H.G Maximilian was one of those people.
He also had his own rule of perfection, order and peace through any means nessesary.
And because of his insights, his country had escaped the shackles of the people who profited from them and had grown to become an economic and military superpower.
This was until they decided to put him on trial for war crimes. The real reason was that he was becoming too popular amongst the rank and file, even junior officers respected him greatly.
There has been cases where the higher ups had sent soldiers to areas where the casualty rate was one hundred percent but because of his " care packages " many soldiers were able to return home to their families.
The most interesting parts of this was that he did all this with the money he got from his various investments and not spending from the military budget.
This was actually the cross that they nailed him to, it was argued that Maximilian had acted alone and had disobeyed orders to stop his research.
A two star General was basically screaming at him from the podium, " Despite warnings from your superiors and a letter from the president you and your team still went ahead to create those damned robots that massacred people left and right.
It would have been tolerable if it was just enemy soldiers but it went ahead to kill even civilians, even American citizens."
Maximilian wanted to remind him that those civilians that he was talking about were agents from hostile nations sending intelligence that could cripple the country.
In his mind he was thinking ,
"This asshole was one of the first people to congratulate me on ridding the world of traitors who would destroy the nation but now that things are heating up he wants to throw me under the bus."
Soon there was commotion outside , he heard what seemed to be sporadic gunfire and screaming.
Apparently some soldiers from the different military branches had taken offense that someone like H.G Maximilian, a hero who had saved the lives of countless soldiers and had saved the country from the leeches that were bleeding them dry was being put on trial.
Thousands of soldiers both active duty and even the retired ones flocked the capital to free him fom captivity and they could have successfully pulled it off, but destiny had other plans. A stray bullet brushed against his neck severing his jugular veil causing him to bleed out on the floor.
As he bleed out, his mind drifted to what would happen to the rebels and if things could actually chay if he was in charge. Just like that darkness flooded him .
.....
' Where am I ? ' Maximilian thought to himself, trying not to freak out. This body and this room were not his.
He looked around the room, it was scanty save for a bed, a table and a chair and some books and scrolls.
' scrolls, why the hell would there be scrolls in the 22nd century.' he thought to himself but then BAM! It was as if a sledge hammer had made contact with his head.
His ears rang as unknown memories resurfaced in his mind.
He was Maximilian , the illegitimate third son of Duke Alexander, protector of the western regions of the Karth empire.
This world that he found himself in was just like earth but it was called Pangea with just one super continent.
This continent was controlled by three major powers; The Everwinter empire, the Kath empire and the kingdom alliance which was a coalition of kingdoms to deter the encroachment of the two empires.
Then there was the thing that found fantastical at best, it was the fact that there is magic in this world.
At least one in one hundred people had magical abilities, and a very small percentage of them turn out to have actual talent for it.
A talentless mage was at least ten times stronger than an ordinary soldier upon awakening. Max could wonder what the person would turn to if he or she really applied themselves.
But still among mages , there were levels to it, there were the elementalists who could manipulate the forces of nature by controlling water , air ,fire , lightning and ice.
These made up a bulk of the mages, there were also those whose magic strengthened their bodies giving them more speed and strenght compared to other mages.
There were also those with unique abilities like enchantment, body manipulation , healing, foresight, etc.
Maximilian had awaken at the age of fourteen, four years late for someone with noble blood course through his veins and worse he got two non combat abilities, healing and rune magic.
He could heal wounds and internal injuries as a healer and as for rune magic, it was a form of enchantment that used the power of runes to perform magic.
In this world it was just used to make weapons sharper or stronger than usual.
But in Maximilians hands it was as if he had been handed the key to the world's secret.
He sat in wonder of what he would be able to create now in this world.
And then his door burst open, Maximilian could only wonder who could barge into his room like that.
It turned out to be two of Duke Alexanders personal guards.
He saw them as they looked down scornfully on him , he was the dukes son but he was still a stain on the ducal house of von Caligula .
" Duke Alexander von Caligula, protector of the West has requested your presence Maximilian in the main palace. "
David looked at the guards, dressed in full plate armor, their helmets covering their faces and making their voices sound distorted.
The blue cloaks draped across their backs and the emblem of a sword circled by thorns indicated their position as knights of House Caligula.
Max couldn't read their expressions due to their faces being covered but by their hands placed in the hilt of their swords, he knew that his life had little value compared to the dukes order.
