Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : Prologue

I stared into the abyss, wondering what the point of it all was. Life seemed like a never-ending cycle of drudgery, a monotony of gray skies and rain-soaked streets. My job was a soul-sucking routine that left me feeling hollow and empty. I felt like a cog in a machine, a replaceable part in a giant corporate engine.

As I trudged through my day, my mind began to wander. I thought about all the things I could be doing with my life, all the places I could be visiting, all the people I could be meeting. But instead, I was stuck in this small, cluttered office, surrounded by the dull hum of machinery and the occasional chatter of my coworkers.

When my shift finally ended, I grabbed my umbrella and stepped out into the rain. The cool droplets hit my face like tiny needles, momentarily snapping me out of my daze. I splashed through puddles on my way home, the smell of wet earth and ozone filling my lungs. It was a small comfort, but it was something.

Back in my apartment, I heated up a packet of instant noodles, the aroma of artificial seasonings wafting through the air.

I washed it down with a can of soda, the sweetness momentarily lifting my mood. As I ate, I scrolled through my phone, browsing through webnovels and fantasy stories. I devoured tales of heroes and villains, of love and loss, of triumph and tragedy.

For a few hours, I would forget about my mundane job and my dull existence.

I would forget about the rain-soaked streets and the gray skies.

I would forget about everything, except for the stories and the characters that inhabited them. It was a temporary escape, but it was something.

As the night wore on, my eyelids began to droop, and I knew it was time for bed. I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of my exhaustion. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to life than this monotony.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of rain pattering against my windowpane. I groggily got out of bed and stumbled to the kitchen to make some coffee. As I waited for the coffee to brew, I checked my phone for any notifications. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat down at my desk, staring blankly at the wall.

Another day, another dollar, another monotonous routine to trudge through. I felt like I was stuck in a never-ending loop, with no escape in sight.

As I sipped my coffee, I began to think about my life.

What was I doing with it?

What were my goals and aspirations?

What did I want to achieve?

The questions swirled in my mind, but I couldn't find any answers.

The rain continued to pour outside, casting a gloomy shadow over the city. I finished my coffee and headed out into the rain, splashing through puddles on my way to the convenience store. I bought a packet of instant noodles and a can of soda, the familiar comfort foods that I relied on to get me through the day.

As I walked home, the rain-soaked streets seemed to stretch on forever. The neon lights of the city's billboards reflected in the wet pavement like a gaudy mirror. My legs began to feel heavy, and my vision started to blur. Suddenly, my legs gave way beneath me, and everything went black.

The last thought that crossed my mind was a fleeting one: "Perhaps this is the end."

In the darkness, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. It was a feeling I hadn't experienced in a long time, a feeling that I had almost forgotten. As the blackness enveloped me, I realized that maybe this was the escape I had been searching for all along.
