While Tsunade was lost in her own world, trying to pep herself up, a soft, childish voice spoke.
"Can I sit here?"
An Yan turned his head. In the aisle next to Tsunade, a white-haired boy was pointing to the last empty seat at their three-person desk.
An Yan's eyes narrowed. White hair, and a boy... Is it Jiraiya? It didn't look like him. He didn't have the spiky hair, nor the red paint on his face.
Tsunade looked around and realized that while she and An Yan were talking, all the other seats in the classroom had been filled. Everyone had tacitly avoided their desk.
Tsunade glanced at An Yan, who nodded to show he had no objection. So, she let the white-haired boy take the seat.
The boy breathed a sigh of relief after sitting down. He was the last person to be called during class assignments. By the time he entered the classroom, he had no choice of seats. There was only one spot left. Seeing the Senju clan crest embroidered on Tsunade's clothes, he had braced himself and walked over. Fortunately, Tsunade didn't have the arrogance of a noble clan member, otherwise he wouldn't have known what to do.
An Yan found the boy's cautious demeanor amusing. He leaned over his desk, past Tsunade, to talk to him.
"Nice to meet you. I'm An Yan. What's your name?"
Hearing An Yan's question, the boy's anxiety slowly dissipated. He also leaned on his desk and replied softly.
"Hello, An Yan. I'm Hiruko."
So it's you, An Yan thought. It was both surprising and expected.
There weren't many famous ninja from the Sannin's generation, and Hiruko was one of them. He was even friends with the Sannin. However, as a commoner, his talent was mediocre compared to theirs. Unwilling to accept his fate, he delved into his own research and developed a forbidden jutsu—the Chimera Technique. This jutsu allowed him to merge with five Kekkei Genkai users, becoming the god of a new world.
He ended up being the main boss of a movie, and the ending was predictable: he died at the hands of Naruto Uzumaki's Wind Release: Rasenshuriken.
While recalling who he was, An Yan didn't forget to greet Hiruko. Tsunade naturally joined the conversation, and the three of them quickly became acquainted.
Just then, the entire classroom fell silent. An Yan and the others subconsciously stopped talking.
As a quiet atmosphere settled over the room, an ordinary-looking young teacher walked in. He saw the forty-two students sitting neatly and nodded in satisfaction.
The young teacher walked to the podium, wrote his name—Sato Taiji—on the blackboard, and then turned to speak loudly.
"Hello everyone, I'm Sato Taiji. From today until you graduate and become ninja, I will be your homeroom teacher. Now, let's begin the fun self-introduction session. We'll start from the right. One by one, please state your name, your hobbies, and your future dream."
Sato Taiji pointed, and the child in the front row on the far right stood up to introduce himself.
"My name is Nobita. I like Shizuka and I hate Gian. My dream is to become the richest man in the world."
"My name is Suneo. I like Gian and I hate Nobita. My dream is to inherit my family's business and become a boss."
"My name is Shizuka. I like Suneo and I hate Gian. My dream is to be a full-time housewife."
Listening to their dreams and hobbies, An Yan felt their relationships were a bit messy. But more importantly, was it appropriate to have dreams of being an ordinary successful person when you've chosen the path of a ninja?
In the turbulent times ahead, there were still three more Great Ninja Wars to come in their lifetimes, not to mention the constant smaller skirmishes between villages. He wondered how long these classmates would live.
Speaking of which, An Yan had previously complained that the Will of Fire was like a pyramid scheme indoctrination. Hearing his classmates talk about their dreams now really did feel like a pyramid scheme conference. It would be even more so if they repeated these dreams every day.
"My name is Tsunade. I like to gamble, and there's nothing I particularly dislike. As for my dream... I want to travel the world and win at every casino."
An Yan snapped out of his thoughts. He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at Tsunade's dream. With her legendary bad luck, she had trouble winning at the casinos in her own village, let alone those around the world. Dreams, it seemed, were meant for dreaming.
"If you want to travel the world, you'll need great strength," Teacher Sato commented on Tsunade's introduction before his gaze shifted to An Yan.
An Yan stood up and introduced himself loudly.
"My name is An Yan. I like reading and music. I don't particularly dislike anything. My dream is to bring peace to this chaotic world and become a great figure like the First Hokage."
An Yan's words sent a ripple through the classroom. Students started whispering among themselves. A dream like becoming Hokage wasn't something you could say lightly. If you said it and then did something embarrassing later, people who knew would laugh at you.
As the students discussed, a faint light flickered in An Yan's eyes. Invisible to others, lines of semi-transparent blue text appeared.
"You want to be Hokage? That's a very grand dream," Sato Taiji commented briefly before turning to the next student. He had heard dreams of becoming Hokage too many times. In every grade, in every class, there were always a few students with that dream.
It was easy to say, but much harder to do.
An Yan sat down and listened to the other students' introductions. His seat was in the second-to-last row, which meant there were only a few people left. In less than a minute, everyone had finished.
Strangely, besides Tsunade and Hiruko, there were no other familiar names in the entire class. Neither Orochimaru nor Jiraiya were here. It seemed the "Sannin of Konoha" only formally met after graduating and becoming genin.
Coming back to his senses, An Yan found Tsunade staring at him blankly, lost in thought. He smiled at her. Seeing his gentle smile, Tsunade snapped out of it and returned a bright smile of her own.
The first lesson was just simple self-introductions. Teacher Sato then gave some more pep talk, spoke about the future, and played a few small games to liven up the class atmosphere.
It had to be said, Teacher Sato was quite capable. After a few classroom games, the teacher and students were already familiar with each other. Even Hiruko was no longer so reserved and had started to open up a bit.
