The second class in the afternoon was combat practice.
Teacher Sato divided the class into 21 pairs. They would take turns sparring while he stood on the side, taking notes.
First-year students had just learned to channel chakra and could only use it for basic running and jumping. They didn't know any ninjutsu, so their fights were mostly just clumsy brawls.
Occasionally, two students from ninja clans would fight with some semblance of technique, with proper offense and defense.
However, An Yan watched for a while but didn't see any ninjutsu, which he had been hoping for. He remembered that Kakashi and Obito knew some simple C-rank ninjutsu before they even graduated. Why weren't any of these clan children using jutsu?
"Next up, Tsunade versus An Yan. Get ready."
Hearing Teacher Sato's voice, An Yan gave Tsunade a look and walked to the center of the field.
The students formed a circle around them. An Yan and Tsunade stood opposite each other and formed the Seal of Confrontation.
Seeing they were ready, Teacher Sato declared the match started.
The moment he finished speaking, An Yan had already pulled out several shuriken from his pouch. With a flick of his wrist, six or seven shuriken flew out. His right hand then grabbed a kunai, holding it in a reverse grip.
Tsunade dodged the shuriken with a side jump, then pulled out two kunai, one in each hand, and charged at An Yan.
An Yan smiled. He tugged on a thin wire he had attached to the shuriken, changing their trajectory and blocking Tsunade's path.
Tsunade was slightly surprised. Is that the Uchiha's Manipulated Shuriken Technique? No, it's just similar.
She quickly deflected all the shuriken with her kunai and continued her charge towards An Yan, unstoppable.
An Yan dropped the wire. It was just leftover material from making bowstrings, nothing valuable.
Seeing Tsunade charge at him, An Yan instinctively wanted to kick up a cloud of dust to blind her, but he stopped himself. He still wanted to marry her one day; he should go easy on her.
Their kunai clashed, creating sparks in the air. The sound of metal hitting metal rang out continuously.
After a few exchanges, An Yan felt his arm starting to tremble. Tsunade was from the Senju clan, naturally strong and full of vitality. With her chakra enhancement, her strength was immense. An Yan was struggling in a direct confrontation.
He gritted his teeth and fought for a few more rounds, then secretly formed a hand seal with one hand, creating several clones. These were the most basic clones, unable to move, but An Yan had created them in various attack poses.
Tsunade was momentarily distracted. In that instant, An Yan pressed his palm against her body, paralyzing her. A kunai was then held to her neck.
"An Yan wins! Next group, get ready."
Teacher Sato announced the result loudly, making a mark in his notebook while calling for the next pair.
"Damn it! I still had my secret move!"
Tsunade waved her small fist in frustration, glaring at An Yan with a fierce but cute expression.
An Yan smiled and formed the Seal of Reconciliation. "You think you're the only one with a secret move?"
Tsunade was puzzled. Her secret move was the monstrous strength her Grandma Mito had just taught her. Where did An Yan learn a secret move? From the school library?
Time passed. As usual, An Yan went home after school, cooked, did his laundry, and ate alone. In a life without anyone to care for him, he took good care of himself.
After a satisfying meal, he changed into black training clothes and went to his usual practice spot, Training Ground 13. This ground had targets for archery practice.
After his daily archery practice, An Yan began to train his hearing, the so-called "eyes in the back of your head."
The small forest was filled with various traps and mechanisms set at different heights, moving along unique tracks. Bottles of various sizes hung from the mechanisms, and as they moved, they swung towards An Yan from all directions.
After learning about trap making at the academy, An Yan had built this device specifically to train his hearing and reflexes. He came here to practice every day.
An Yan walked to the center of the trap, blindfolded himself, and activated the mechanism. A barrage of bottles converged on him from all sides.
An Yan continuously dodged, twisting and turning. Occasionally, a bottle he couldn't avoid would hit him, leaving a white mark on his black training clothes.
With his consistent training, his dodging ability had improved significantly. When something attacked from behind, his skin would instinctively tighten before he even turned, allowing him to dodge.
This was all preparation for surviving the Second Great Ninja War. An Yan was always very careful about his own life.
He continued to dodge within the trap, trying to keep his breathing steady and conserve his energy, increasing his sustained combat time.
While An Yan was immersed in his training, two heads peeked out from behind a bush outside Training Ground 13.
One with blonde hair, one with white hair. It was his two friends, Tsunade and Hiruko.
"Amazing! I never thought ordinary traps could be used for training like this. An Yan is a true genius," Hiruko whispered in awe.
Tsunade lightly tapped Hiruko's head and hushed him. "Keep it down. Our plan is simple. When An Yan is about to run out of energy, we'll attack and see what his secret move really is."
As time passed, An Yan felt he had trained enough. Unlike internal energy, over-exerting one's chakra could shorten one's lifespan.
An Yan stopped the mechanism, set up a warning sign, wiped his sweat, and prepared to go home.
He hadn't gone far when several shuriken flew at him from behind. An Yan dodged with a side jump. The shuriken embedded themselves in a tree trunk, the sound echoing in the dark night.
An Yan turned to look. The forest of the training ground was quiet and dark at night, with only the faint outlines of trees visible.
It was around ten o'clock at night. A crescent moon hung in the sky, its faint light blocked by the thick canopy. The trees around Konoha were tall and dense, which was both a blessing and a curse.
Who is it? A spy?
Faced with a sudden attack, An Yan felt a mix of fear and excitement. He forced himself to calm down. He was still growing; he couldn't afford to be reckless.
He reached out, and a bow and arrow appeared in his hand.
