Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Child from Next Door

An Yan soon found something to do.

He discovered the Ninja Academy's library.

Many people assumed the library was for students, but it wasn't. What six-to-twelve-year-old would spend their time reading in a library?

The library was for the teachers to research and improve themselves and was not open to students.

But that didn't stop An Yan. After a brief chat with Teacher Sato, he was granted access.

It couldn't be helped. In just one month, An Yan's reputation as a top student was firmly established, and top students could do whatever they wanted.

The Ninja Academy was founded by the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, so the books in the library were naturally from his personal collection. Although the books had been screened before being placed in the school library, many still bore Tobirama's touch.

The Mysteries of Space-Time Ninjutsu, How to Stimulate Limb Regeneration, Several Methods to Counter Dōjutsu, The Possibility of Bloodline Transfer, The Effects of Yang Release Chakra...

Just a quick glance, and An Yan could almost picture Tobirama conducting human experiments in the dark, with an unknown ninja on the operating table, their pupils glowing red with the Sharingan.

The library contained all sorts of materials, but the majority were related to biology and medical ninjutsu. An Yan even found the Soft Physique Modification technique that Orochimaru would later master.

An Yan decided to read every book in the library. He had a feeling that the future achievements of Tsunade, Orochimaru, and even Hiruko were all linked to the knowledge within these walls.

Previously, when he had nothing better to do, An Yan would play childish ninja games with his classmates. But now that he had a purpose, he wouldn't waste time on such pointless activities.

This, in turn, made Tsunade anxious.

Who could understand this feeling? Everyone else was playing, but your deskmate was secretly studying. How could anyone continue to play in that environment?

So, Tsunade also started studying books on biology and medicine. Soon after, Hiruko also requested and received permission from Teacher Sato to use the library.

Teacher Sato was delighted by this development. He taught more than just An Yan's class; he had other classes to attend to as well. With the shining example of An Yan and the others, he grew increasingly dissatisfied with the students in his other classes and frequently used the three of them as examples.

"Look at Princess Tsunade from Year 1, Class A! She's working so hard, what excuse do you have to be lazy? An Yan is striving to achieve his dream of becoming Hokage. What about your dreams? Hiruko comes from a commoner family, and despite the immense pressure of being around two such outstanding people, he hasn't given up. Why should you?"

Teacher Sato's words were forceful and convincing. An Yan, Tsunade, and Hiruko became the "children from next door," the perfect examples, and were gradually ostracized by their class and even their entire grade.

Hiruko was the first to sense the trouble. He changed his strategy, choosing to study late at night while blending in with his classmates during the day.

Only Tsunade and An Yan continued to act as they pleased, completely indifferent to others' opinions.

Of course, no one dared to provoke Princess Tsunade of the Senju clan, so all the resentment was focused on An Yan.

An Yan was unfazed. During this time, his name was constantly being mentioned by classmates, teachers, and parents. His reputation was soaring, and he was secretly enjoying it.

Besides, what trouble could a bunch of kids cause? An Yan was even looking forward to it.

And so, one day after using the restroom, An Yan was cornered by four other boys at the exit.

An Yan glanced around and saw a familiar face.

"207, what's the meaning of this?" he asked.

207 immediately flew into a rage.

"An Yan! Stop looking down on people! We've been classmates for so long, and you can't even remember my name, only my test rank? That's really rude, you know?"

"Oh, my apologies. I only remembered your ranking from the monthly exam. If your rank isn't in the top five of the grade, there's no need to remember the name."

An Yan shrugged innocently. He actually remembered the boy's name, but he said it on purpose. There was no other reason than to provoke them and hopefully gain more reputation points.

Among all human emotions, hatred is the most enduring.

People can't love someone with the same intensity for years, but they can hate someone for decades.

Hatred leads to thinking about them, and thinking about them leads to reputation points. It was simple math.

207 trembled with anger. He pointed a shaking finger at An Yan and roared, "Get him!"

The three lackeys charged forward. Children's fights were clumsy, just a flurry of wild punches.

An Yan met the one in the middle with a front kick, sending him to the ground. Then he delivered a slap to each of the boys on the sides, making them cry.

The boy on the ground saw this and hesitated, wondering if he should get up and continue fighting. But he didn't want to get slapped. After a moment's hesitation, he clutched his stomach and lay there, groaning as if seriously injured.

Seeing his three followers so easily defeated, 207 was stunned. As An Yan walked towards him, the boy retreated step by step until his back was against the wall.

An Yan stood in front of 207. The boy was on the verge of tears but still trying to act tough. An Yan quickly raised his arm as if to strike, but then just used it to scratch his head.

207 thought An Yan was about to hit him. He flinched, shut his eyes, and let out a loud cry.

"Tsk, boring."

An Yan walked past 207 with his hands behind his back, calmly washed his hands at the sink, and then leisurely left the restroom. People said children in the ninja world were mature, but from what he saw, they weren't all that mature.

When An Yan returned to his seat, Hiruko leaned over.

"An Yan, I heard they were planning to corner you in the restroom. You should be careful."

An Yan gave Hiruko a bright smile.

"You're too late. I've already taken care of it."

Hiruko was astonished. He gave a thumbs-up and whispered, "Impressive."

An Yan felt a sense of satisfaction, like eating ice cream on a hot day. In the world of boys, "impressive" was the highest praise.

Tsunade glanced at the two of them before turning her attention back to her book. The more she studied, the more interested she became in biology and medicine. She hadn't even had time to play cards with her grandmother recently.

An Yan pursed his lips and also focused on the book in his hands.

Seeing this, Hiruko felt uneasy.

The efficiency of secretly studying at night really couldn't compare to studying both day and night.
