Elena knows it's useless to run because she has never come in contact with vampires before, but she knows about them. They're the children of night, creatures of darkness alongside, sirens, trolls, and worse, witches.
She knows how fast they are, but still, she has to run at least let people know she put up a good fight.
"Oh no no no no no," she panics while running, but then she lets out a scream when she sees Igor in front of her. She stops running, and when she turns around, the vampires come closing in; she's stranded; she's the prey that they're about to devour.
They're done chasing and are ready to just eat her.
Elena cannot believe this is how she dies, she's going to be killed by vampires, fucking vampires. She'd rather be killed by witches instead.
She knows she's going to die because she's a powerless fairy with no wings and no combat skills. She should have listened to her best friend Alex when he offered to give her free combat lessons, but no, she didn't take it because she's simply just an idiot.
And her best friend isn't here to save her, so she is, in fact, dead.
"Oh, princess, we have been looking for you. We never thought we'd see you at the bar. But you were in fact there." Igor scoffs as he walks closer to Elena. Now thinking of it, Igor's skin is extremely cold, so is his breath and all of a sudden he's not attractive anymore.
She's not going to show any kind of fear; she is going to stand her ground, and she is going to be brave. She's not going to give these arseholes power.
"Other fairies, their blood is juicy, but you." he smells her and then breathes out. "You smell like power, you smell like if we eat you we will never have to be hungry again."
"Are you sure I'm making you hungry, or are you just horny?" Elena says, and Igor and his vampire friends laugh hard.
That's Elena, always making people laugh, even the people who are trying to eat her.
"You are funny." Igor laughs and then grabs her by the neck and lifts her. She's in the air, kicking her feet as she struggles to get down from his grip.
"What kind of a fairy doesn't have wings and powers anyway?" He asks, she doesn't know, no one does. This has never happened before. Fairies get their wings at the age of six, and they get their powers as soon as they are twelve. Elena is sixteen years old and she's gotten neither.
There are theories. People think she's disabled, or she was cursed by those witches, that's why they broke into the palace, or she was a mistake or a witch in disguise who is plotting to learn fae secrets and steal their powers.
No one really knows why she doesn't have powers, and neither does she.
She never really lets the side eyes, the comments and gossip get to her; she used to when she was younger. When she'd watch her mates flying in the air, being trained to fly, and she'd just stay on the ground with the elves. It was when she met Alexander Walker, her best friend, her brother, who would beat people up for making fun of her.
Yes, sure, all elves are naturally strong, but Alex is more skilled because his parents are the best, and they've been helping keep the royal family safe for a long time.
Alex is the badass friend who doesn't take bullshit from anyone. He's tough, doesn't show much feeling, and it was after his mom was killed by witches. He only shows his vulnerable side around Elena because it feels like they can understand each other.
If Elena dies, it's Alex she's going to miss the most, and then her cousin Henry, who is also like a brother to her.
Maybe it's for the best if she just dies. She's useless anyway, and her haters will finally get their wish.
"I cannot wait to taste you," Igor says in an evil tone. "Are you ready to taste her, guys?" he asks his disgusting vampire friends, and they all say yes in perfect unison. Elena faces the dark purple colored sky, and the bright violet moon illuminates the whole space, and she admires the stars one last time before closing her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Mom, I'm sorry, Dad," she whispers into the air. She can't believe she's about to let her parents' deaths go in vain because of her reckless decisions.
Party girls do die after all.
She can feel herself coming down, which means Igor is ready to sink his teeth deep into her neck; she breathes out in pain. This is it, she's going to be killed by a bunch of vampires.
"Hey!" someone shouts, which makes Igor remove his fangs from Elena's smooth neck. Elena opens her eyes. "You idiots have two options: you either stay away from her, and I'll let you go, or you harm her, and I'm going to destroy you. Your pick."
Elena knows that voice; it can't be. Could it be…Alex.
"Ugh, elves, you people always ruin everything." Igor moves Elena's body in a way that she is facing Alex. And it's true, her tall, light-skinned best friend is standing so handsomely with his full lips, long pointy ears and silver colored hair in a messy textured crop with tapered and back sides.
He stands firm with a golden sword, wearing a dark shirt and cargo pants, and boots
Next to him is Pierre Badeaux, her long-time crush. He stands there looking hot as well, he's more muscular than Alex, he has silver hair in a buzz cut (All elves have silver hair) he's wearing a hoodie, and he's holding a gold arrow which points at Igor.
Elena has had a crush on Pierre for the longest time, since she was in year six. But she couldn't have him because her evil ex-best friend stole him from her, knowing she always liked him, and for years she's had to endure watching them kiss and go on dates and all that shit.
Here he is being her hero.
"And I love us for that," Alex says. "Now, let her go," he says, pointing the sword directly at Igor.
That's her fearless Alex, always defending her.
Igor doesn't move; he just stands there as if contemplating. What is he contemplating? Alex will kill him.
"Hmm, no deal!" and in a flash, a vampire rushes over to Alex, and Elena screams because Igor bites Elena. The pain is worse than before, but the pain stops as quickly as it came, and she stops screaming and opens her eyes to see Igor on the ground, an arrow on his chest. Alex fights the vampires, and Elena leaves the way, and she stands next to a tree and just watches.
While Alex kills the vampires both viciously and graciously, Pierre stands there looking pretty, shooting arrows their way. Elena has seen Alex fight a lot of times, but this time it's more cinematic; everything is going so fast, but it feels like everything's in slow motion.
Alex raises his hands to punch a vampire and uses the other to stab another with his magical golden sword, turning them to dust. The sword of Excalibur is not given to just anyone, just students who are ranked high in school, and Alex is number one, killing up to sixty vampires at just fourteen.
He is his parents' son after all. He's one of the best students in his combat class. And he's a natural, as per usual.
Elena just sits there frozen, staring at the beauty that is what is going on before her. Alex is killing the vampires one by one, and Pierre just stands there, shooting the arrows toward them
Aura.
"So cool," she says, smiling at the outcome. She wishes she possessed some kind of ability. If not a fairy, then why couldn't she just be an elf, be born in a normal family, have silver colored hair and pointy ears and have super hearing, strength and speed? Why does she have to be born as a fairy with no powers?
But she couldn't get what Igor said out of her head. Her scent is way more fascinating than others. It's either that what he said has some truth in it, or he was just a hungry mother fucker who was full of shit.
But in a twisted way, Elena did feel kind of special when Igor told her that her scent wasn't like anyone else. Yes, she is indeed sick.
Another theory is that she is human, but that's the wackiest theory ever because humans don't exist.
People without magical powers, yeah, they don't. But Elena is starting to believe she is because she currently has no powers and no wings.
Alex is done killing the last vampire by beheading, he lets out his last scream, and then Alex dramatically throws his sword and catches it, looking cool and awesome as always.
"Now, who says I'm not the best?" and another thing about Alex is that he has pride, and pride was what killed his mother in the first place.
"Alex!" Elena jumps from the ground and runs toward her best friend.
"Elena! Are you okay?"
"No, I'm-" Elena stops in her tracks when something catches her eye. A vampire-no, two sneaking up on Pierre.
"HEY, WATCH OUT!" Elena warns, stretching out her hands, and the next thing that happens is beyond compare.
The whole place is filled with light, almost like the sun is up, but that can't be because it's still nighttime.
The sun is coming from Elena, and everyone closes their eyes because the bright golden light surrounding her is too loud. A large ray of sun leaves her and aims toward the vampires who want to attack Pierre. Pierre immediately ducks, and her powers touch the vampires.
They scream and scream and scream until they turn into ashes. The light disappears, and everything is back to normal, including Elena.
"Elena," Alex says, opening his eyes when he finds that the light is gone.
Elena falls to the ground.
The princess has fainted.
