Chapter 4 - 4. The Shining Sun

Elena takes out her party clothes and puts on something decent, which is hard to find in her walk-in closet. She has to look her best; she doesn't usually think of looking her best when it comes to seeing her uncle, but this time she does.

She doesn't know why her uncle is summoning her, but she's ninety-nine per cent sure it has to do with her sneaking out of the academy and going clubbing, then being attacked by vampires. Yep, that has to be the reason. She is in trouble for sure.

As soon as she walks out of the closet wearing the most decent dress Alex puts a phone screen on her face.

"See, everyone's talking about it. It's weird how news travels fast when you're a public figure." Alex says, and Elena snatches the phone, and she's looking at so many headlines, and it's all about her.

Sure, she has always been the news's favourite person since she was little, but this time it's different because everyone is talking about how the princess has found her powers and how she's the most powerful fairy alive.

Powerful?

She opens up the comments.

I knew it!

Wow, she has powers after all

Fake news!

Abolish the monarchy

She's so fucking beautiful.

She went from not having powers to being the most powerful fairy in all of Europe. Slay!

Party girls never die bitches!!!

She slowly looks up from the phone to Alex, who waggles his brows at her.

"I have to go see my uncle." She says, walking toward the door, and when she opens it, she sees Sylvie is still here, but it's the two pointy-eared elves that she looks at.

"You're ready, good. These two gentlemen will be taking you to a secret location to see the King. They'll handle you with care."

"Oh then, I guess it's my cue to leave," Alex says, about to go.

"No, no, Alexander, you're going with her too. Your other friend is already there."

"Pierre's still here?" Elena asks Alex excitedly, and he rolls his eyes with a smile on his face.

"Let's keep it going, princess," Alex says, willing her to move forward as the guards escort her to the king's hideout.

They get into the library because, of course, it's in the library. Elena doesn't enter the library; she doesn't read. It's too boring. Where's the fun in just sitting down and reading ink on paper?

She wonders how her cousin Henry does it.

She, Alex and the guards walk past loads of bookshelves, and the guards stand in front of a shelf, and they pull a book; the whole shelf moves to the side, revealing a secret passageway.

Elena and Alex look at each other, Elena more shocked, Alex more impressed. They walk into the cold room. It's not creepy one bit, there are lanterns on the walls, the passage is wide and it doesn't take them too much time to walk into the room where her Uncle Conrad is.

He stands there having a conversation with Pierre, and they seem to be engrossed in their talking points. There's an older man here as well; he's in a dark robe. She knows this man; she's seen him around; he's a moon fairy.

Moon fairies are known for their visions and their prophecies.

Elena is supposed to be confused as to where this place is and why she doesn't know this secret passageway, but she can't stop looking at Pierre.

He's beautiful, he's so beautiful and she doesn't want to sound like a bitter bitch but she is glad that his relationship with Anastasia is over, those two were toxic for each other. Seeing them break up was one of the reasons why she snuck out of the school block to go clubbing, she had to celebrate.

"Oh, there she is," Pierre says when she catches Elena staring at him. Her uncle Conrad looks away from him to his niece.

"Hey, you're okay." he walks toward her and hugs her. "I'm glad you're awake and you're fine."

"You're not-you're not mad?"

"Hey, you're young, you make dumb mistakes all the time, but I wouldn't say what you did was okay, you almost got Elena killed."

"I know, I know, I'm sorry."

King Conrad Edward Baron-Grant, her uncle, her father's younger brother. A handsome man in his late thirties, curly golden blond hair, blue eyes and heart-shaped lips. He's dressed in a white shirt and pants.

King Conrad wasn't always this responsible. He was wild just like his niece when he was younger. But after his older brother died, he found out he had to take over and rule the kingdom, keep the seat warm until Elena grows older.

He had to let his past self go and be be more responsible. He never wanted to be king at first. He had a whole plan to explore, go on adventures, but after his older brother died, he had to take over and be serious with his life.

It took him a while to act like his responsible brother, but here he is, doing just fine.

"Actually, I didn't call you here for that. The reason I called you here is to discuss your powers."

Her powers. Wow, this is true. She really does have powers.

"Okay, so what is it? Lightning, the stars…"

"You, my dear, have the power of the shining sun," the old man in the robe says.

"Huh?" She has never heard that power before.

"You are a light fairy with the power of the shining sun." he brings down a cloak, revealing this magical visual hologram that illuminates the whole room. She looks at it in awe. He's the one who created it, moon fairies are good visual storytellers, and they love to show their visions in this magical hollagram.

"You are the most powerful fairy in the whole of Europe. The shining sun is a power that is given to certain light fairies by the Gods. When a light fairy is born without wings or powers, it just means that the fairy is going to have the shining sun in them."

Their eyes are glued to the visuals in the air.

The Gods take out a chunk from the sun and put all their powers in that sun and throw it to earth to look for a host who deserves it.

The shining sun goes to sleep but wakes up when it senses danger ahead. So far, it has been given to four people and they were all commoners all hundreds of years apart from each other. Three men and a woman, Elena is the first royal to have the power of the sun.

"That means something dangerous is coming. And the shining sun chose you because they believe you can destroy that evil."

"That's the reason those witches were looking for you when you were a baby." King Conrad says.

"Wait a minute. You've known about this?" Elena asks her uncle in disbelief.

"Yes, almost every royal knows, we're not allowed to tell you because you're supposed to find out about the power in you on your own."

"Oh my Gods," Elena mutters; she's still in shock.

All these years of being made fun of, thinking that there was something wrong with her, all this while she did have powers, and her uncle knew. He knew how hard it was for her, hearing all the insults, seeing people talk badly about her.

She had to try her best not to pay attention to the noise; she did succeed. But still.

The power of the shining sun is no wonder she connects with the sun well, and she feels stronger when she's under it.

"Did my parents know?"

"Yes, they did." King Conrad says slowly. He can sense his niece's mood changing. It's obvious she's pissed off.

"I think this is a mistake," Elena says.

"It's not." The old man says. "The shining sun never makes mistakes."

"Well does the shining sun know me. Does it know I'm reckless, I get in trouble all the time, that I don't take my studies seriously, that I almost got killed last night because I snuck out of school to go to a club, and I lie, I steal, and I deceive people to get what I want?"

"The shining sun also knows how you make people feel wanted." King Conrad says. "You're kind to people, you make sure people are included, you have a heart of gold. Just because you party and are reckless doesn't mean you're evil. You're just a teenager who makes mistakes."

"Just like all the past teenagers who were chosen to be vessels of the shining sun."

Elena looks between her uncle and the moon fairy. She looks at Pierre, who immediately looks away from her.

It's rare to see Elena have this emotion; she's never really angry, she's always happy, cheerful.

She sighs. "So what's this great evil I have to face?" she asks snarkily.

"We're not sure yet. But we think it has to be the witch or wizard who led other witches to kill you," the moon fairy says, and Elena's eyes widen.

"So that person is alive?"

"Yes." King Conrad says, giving the moon fairy a look. "They didn't die, just injured."

"And we believe they're very powerful and they're waiting to strike."

Elena looks taken aback, and King Conrad looks annoyed.

"Okay, you need to calm down with the information."

"But she has to know," he says.

"She's still trying to process everything."

"I need some air," Elena says, walking out of the room.

"Elena!" Alex and King Conrad call for her, but she doesn't answer; she slams the door on her way out.
