The Unspoken Agreement...
Yuvaan had always preferred silence. Not the awkward kind, but the kind that wrapped around him like a blanket soft, undemanding, safe. Aarav, on the other hand, was noise. He was laughter that echoed down corridors, poetry scribbled on napkins, and playlists that changed with the weather. Yet somehow, they fit.
It started with a broken laptop. Aarav had stormed into the engineering lab, flustered and late, asking for help. Yuvaan, hunched over his own project, looked up and saw chaos in human form. It won't turn on, Aarav said, breathless. And I have a submission in two hours.
Yuvaan didn't speak. He just gestured for the device, fingers moving with quiet precision. Aarav watched him, fascinated by the way Yuvaan's brow furrowed in concentration. When the screen flickered back to life, Aarav grinned. You're a wizard, he said. My personal tech savior.
That was the beginning.
They started spending time together first out of necessity, then out of choice. Aarav would find excuses to visit the lab, bringing coffee and chaos. Yuvaan, despite himself, began to look forward to those interruptions. They'd walk back to the dorms together, sometimes talking, sometimes just sharing the silence.
One evening, as the sun dipped behind the hills, painting the sky in bruised purples and gold, Aarav turned to Yuvaan and said, You know you're my person, right?
Yuvaan blinked. What does that mean?
Aarav shrugged, smiling. It means you're the one I think of when I'm happy. Or sad. Or bored. Or caffeinated.
Yuvaan didn't respond. He didn't know how. His heart was thudding too loudly in his chest.
They never talked about it again.
But things changed. Aarav started sitting closer. His hand would brush Yuvaan's when passing notes. He'd lean in during conversations, eyes locked, voice low. Yuvaan felt the shift, like gravity pulling him toward something unnamed.
Their friends noticed too. You two are practically dating, someone joked during lunch. Aarav just smirked. Yuvaan looked away.
That night, Yuvaan lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. What were they? Friends? Something more? Something less?
He didn't know. But he knew he wanted to.
To be continue...
