Chapter 11 - Ch.11

"..."

"Is that so?" Rebecca said, her chin resting on her hand as she pondered Javier's explanation. She couldn't find any holes in his story for now, so she decided to believe him. After all, he was her partner, and she could trust him, at least a little.

Just then, a sound echoed from the front of the train car.

"Step, step, step..."

"So that's what's going on?" a voice said.

"No wonder there are so many disgusting monsters in the Arklay Mountains. Hey...! Don't move, you two. I don't want to hurt you, but don't try anything. I just followed the sound of the gunshots and stumbled upon this huge secret."

"I just have a few questions. Are you Raccoon City police officers? Or are you part of a special team? What's your purpose for being here? What mission are you on?"

A figure appeared in front of Javier and Rebecca. He had on light-blue jeans, a white tank top, and his muscular arms were covered in black tattoos. He also had a dog tag and handcuffs. His hair was messy, and his eyes were as sharp as a hawk's.

It was none other than Billy Coen, the former Marine Corps Second Lieutenant from the transport order they had seen by the tracks. He had been listening to their conversation for a while.

The man was holding a pistol, and the dark barrel was pointed right at Javier and Rebecca. It was clear that if they made any sudden moves, he would pull the trigger without hesitation.

"It's Billy Coen!" Rebecca exclaimed.

"The criminal from the transport order. I knew you, you insane killer, weren't dead! Are you going to kill us too?"

Javier and Rebecca were shocked by Billy Coen's sudden appearance. But they wisely put their hands up, seeing the pistol pointed at them. They hadn't put their fingers on their own triggers, so even if they tried to be faster than him, he would shoot their hands first.

Billy Coen was a former Marine Corps Second Lieutenant, and his skills were not to be underestimated. Neither Javier nor Rebecca wanted to take the risk of trying to shoot him first. That would only make things worse.

Despite this, the justice-loving Rebecca didn't hold back. Although she was small, she had a sharp tongue and didn't back down from a fight. She was one of the few protagonists in Resident Evil, along with Leon, who was a master of talking trash.

Billy Coen, on the other hand, couldn't be bothered to argue with the young girl. He was used to it. He had been subjected to so much scorn and abuse on his way to the military tribunal for killing 23 innocent civilians. He didn't care about what Rebecca had to say, even if she had a venomous tongue.

"Hey!" he said.

"I don't want to explain myself to you, and I know you won't believe me anyway."

"Now, ma'am... no, little girl, and you, mister, put your hands up high and don't take them down. Don't even try to touch your guns, or my bullets will find your fingers. I will not hesitate to shoot!"

Billy Coen shook his head helplessly, raising his gun and warning them not to try any tricks, or he would fire. He also glared at Rebecca. The little girl's verbal attacks weren't powerful, but they were annoying, like a buzzing fly. He would have to make her shut up.

Javier and Rebecca looked at each other and shrugged, raising their hands higher. To calm Billy Coen down, Javier decided to speak.

"Hey, don't be so nervous, man," Javier said.

"We don't have any intentions toward you. The Raccoon City Police Department doesn't usually get involved in external criminal cases, and neither does the S.T.A.R.S. team. We only handle things around Raccoon City. There's no reward for us if we take you in. So don't be so nervous; I'm afraid your gun might go off."

"Also, we are Raccoon City police officers, part of the S.T.A.R.S. special rescue team. We are here on a mission. A few hours ago, the police department received a distress call. The Ecliptic Express was attacked by unknown creatures and lost contact. That's why we were sent to investigate."

"As for your transport order, we found it at the scene of the overturned jeep. Trust me... we won't expose your whereabouts. As for the girl next to me, she just has a sharp tongue and a strong sense of justice. She doesn't mean any harm!"

Javier gave an awkward smile and tried to befriend Billy Coen. He slowly lowered one hand and extended it toward him, as if to show he was a friend.

But Rebecca glared at Javier for his insults.

Billy Coen, on the other hand, frowned at Javier's long speech. As a trained soldier and former Marine Corps Second Lieutenant, he knew that Javier was trying to befriend him to lower his guard. So, Billy Coen didn't lower his gun; instead, he raised it a little higher, ready to fire at any moment.

"..."

Javier's outstretched hand was left in an awkward position. Damn it... he's tough.

He would have to go with Plan B. Billy Coen was too cautious to be approached. Javier decided to get Rebecca's help. He slowly wiggled his finger to signal to her that it was time to start their plan.

They had already agreed to a plan when they looked at each other earlier. They would work together to distract Billy Coen and create an opportunity. Since Javier's plan to befriend him had failed, it was now up to Rebecca. Javier didn't know what she would do.

The next second—

"Clang—!"

"Bang..."

"Ah... ah... there's a zombie behind you!!! Run!!" Rebecca's face turned pale. She looked as if she had seen something terrifying. Her legs started to tremble, and she pointed behind Billy Coen, screaming in fear. She then lost control of her body and fell to the ground, pretending to be in shock.

Javier was stunned by her performance. He couldn't help but admire her acting skills. He had no idea how Rebecca was going to distract him, but he never expected her to pretend. He almost fell for it himself, even though he knew there was nothing behind Billy Coen.

Where's the zombie? She's trying to fool me!

Her trembling legs and the look of fear on her face made Javier shake his head. It was a shame she wasn't a Hollywood actress. Why was she playing Resident Evil?

"..."

"What...?"

Her superb acting skills had fooled Billy Coen. He didn't want to take the risk. If he got bitten by a zombie, he would turn into a monster, too. Without any hesitation, Billy Coen turned his head to look behind him.

Good opportunity! Javier thought to himself.

He didn't hesitate for a second. His leg muscles tensed, and in the blink of an eye, he was in front of Billy Coen. By the time Billy realized something was wrong, it was too late. Javier unleashed a powerful spinning back kick!

"Bang—!"

The kick cut through the air, hitting Billy Coen's hand that was gripping the pistol. With a dull thump, his hand turned red from the force. He couldn't hold on to the gun and was forced to drop it.

"Clang!"

The gun fell to a nearby seat. Javier immediately lunged forward and tackled Billy Coen to the ground. He used all his weight and strength to pin him down. The move was not flashy, but it was effective.

"..."

"Don't move! I'll shoot... killer," Rebecca said calmly as she picked up the fallen pistol and aimed it at Billy Coen's head.
