"Shh...!"
Javier, Rebecca, and Billy crept along the floor of the train car, making as little noise as possible. After a few minutes, they reached the front of the train, just outside the cockpit.
But just then, they saw two fully-armed soldiers standing on the railing outside the cockpit. The three of them looked at each other, made hand gestures, and held their breath. They slowly peeked up.
"Phew...!"
"Boom—!!!"
Outside, a storm was raging, with thunder and lightning. The lightning flashed in the sky, as if a divine punishment was being sent down to eliminate the bioweapons in the forest. Luckily, no trees were hit, or it would have caused a forest fire. But with all the rain, it should be fine.
Using the flashes of lightning, Javier, Rebecca, and Billy saw the two fully-armed soldiers on the train. Their attire was similar to Javier's—all black, with a steel helmet and a bulletproof vest. On their armbands was the red and white umbrella logo of the Umbrella Corporation.
Javier and Rebecca, as members of the S.T.A.R.S. team, immediately recognized them as members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, or U.B.C.S.
This unit had four divisions: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. Each division was further divided into five teams: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo, with a total of 120 soldiers. Most of the members were retired military personnel and mercenaries, with a few elite soldiers. Initially, Umbrella only recruited retired soldiers for the U.B.C.S.
However, because this unit was often involved in "post-cleanup" missions after failed bioweapon experiments and rescue operations after viral outbreaks, the mortality rate was extremely high. Many members suffered from mental breakdowns after seeing mutated monsters tearing their comrades apart. This forced Umbrella to recruit mercenaries and violent criminals to build the first line of defense against biological disasters.
This was Umbrella's real army, and their equipment was much better. You could tell by their helmets and bulletproof vests. They were no match for the S.T.A.R.S. team, which was just a special police unit in Raccoon City.
The two soldiers were members of the Delta team. It was obvious that they knew about the viral outbreak and were sent here to handle it.
But only two people? That seemed a little too cocky. They should have backup!
At that moment, the two U.B.C.S. soldiers didn't notice the three people sneaking up on them. They were still on the moving train, trying to connect to their communication system. Soon, after a lot of static, the communication system surprisingly connected.
"Beep, beep, beep..."
"Beep, beep, beep..."
"Hello, can you hear me? This is the Delta team. We have successfully taken control of the train, but unfortunately... all the researchers sent to the executive training facility are dead. The train is only filled with corpses and infected bioweapons."
"What should we do next? Continue to the executive training facility to investigate, or destroy the train to eliminate the evidence?"
The two U.B.C.S. soldiers stood on the outside of the train car, leaning against the railing. They asked their superior for instructions.
As soldiers of the Umbrella Corporation, they were used to Umbrella's ways. They often chose to eliminate evidence and kill witnesses. As for eradicating the virus?
Heh... if everyone's dead, then no one will know who released the virus, right? That's the same as eradicating the effects of the virus, right? The U.B.C.S. soldiers were lazy and didn't want to fight dangerous bioweapons if they could avoid it. Only the reckless ones with a strong sense of justice would insist on fighting.
Please—
Those monsters are terrifying and a huge hassle.
Javier, Rebecca, and Billy, who were hiding inside the train car, overheard the conversation and their faces fell. Billy was used to it after being betrayed by his own military comrades. He was angry but didn't have any other emotions.
But Rebecca was different. As a pharmaceutical expert, she had a lot of respect for the Umbrella Corporation before joining the S.T.A.R.S. team. It was the largest pharmaceutical company in the world, with powerful technology. The news often showed them creating various medicines to help people. To Rebecca, the Umbrella Corporation was a very good organization.
But now... it seemed that wasn't the case. All the news reports were just a facade to gain public favor. In reality, it was a company that had gone crazy for the sake of viral research.
What Javier, Rebecca, and Billy didn't know was that the two U.B.C.S. soldiers' superior was their old acquaintance, Albert Wesker, the captain of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team. At that moment, the old captain and his apprentice, William Birkin, were at the executive training facility, giving orders to the two soldiers through the communication system.
"Wesker..."
"This is not logical. Marcus died almost ten years ago, and we have protected the T-virus very well. I have even investigated all the Umbrella researchers who have had contact with the virus, and none of them could have spread it. It's safe to say that the viral outbreak in the Arklay Mountains was not caused by Umbrella!"
"So if it wasn't Umbrella that spread it, then who is trying to frame us? And what's even crazier is... the executive training facility is three miles away from the Ecliptic Express. How did it suddenly get infected? Did it fly?"
In a secret monitoring room at the executive training facility, two figures were arguing. They were Wesker and William Birkin. As the two who had managed the T-virus and the executive training facility, they had to take responsibility for this viral outbreak. That's why William Birkin was so anxious. He was just a regular researcher, useless outside of his viral research. If he were to be dragged down by that bastard Spencer, he would be out of a job. Not to mention, his "god" hasn't been created yet!
