Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

In a dark room, a figure suddenly appeared. It was a man with dark curly hair with a monocle on his right black eyes as well as an ancient gold and silver pocket watch hanging from his hips. It was none other than Amon.

Amon smiled lazily as he walked through the unconcious bldies of the Nighthawks and picked up the ancient silver book- the Antigonus family notebook.

"I still wonder why people place such importance to that dog's diary." Amom shook his head with a find smile as he casually flipped through the book, "Although it does have some important information, it's on the same level as that Roselle guy's diary."

Amom didn't need any light to read the words on the notebook.

"Today I ate Bethel's hair."

"Ah, good times, good times." Amon chuckled as he kept flipping through the notebook, casually reading it as if it wasn't a dangerous sealed artifact from the fourth epoch.

After he had finally stopped running away and ignoring his deep rooted emotions, aside from the love he had for his father and Klein, he had also realised the faint joy he had experienced during those days in the fourth epoch. Just him, Bethel and Antigonus spending day after day doing tricks and making Bethel's hair turn white.

Unfortunately, Bethel had been polluted and sealed on the moon, his fate set in dying, never to return to the earth and the family he loved so much. Amon wanted to save him this time, but he had no methods for doing so. He had thought again and again of some plan to get rid of his old friend's pollution and to save him, but there was just no way.

If only he could use the powers of the pocket watch again, it would be very easy after that to get rid of the influence of the outer gods from Bethel through 'sacrifice'.

Unfortunately, the pocket watch he had now was just an ordinary item. No longer able to use the true god level powers of 'parasite'.

And Antigonus... his other friend. Amon had enjoyed the man- or well, dog's company a lot. There wasn't a day where the guy was boring. Always up to keep up with his pranks.

Too bad he too was currently in a sealed state due to the influence of Tianzun making him half crazy...

Wait a sec-

Amon's eyes widened as he suddenly realized something very big that had managed to slip out of his mind.

Antigonus's craziness was because of the influence of Tianzun trying to revive inside of him which was the reason why he had to be sealed... but hadn't Amon already taken care of Tianzun forever?

Didn't that mean that Antigonus was now completely alright?

"Huh..." Amon let out a noise after a while.

Another Amon conjured up from thin air and sat on the entity's shoulder, "Damn we are dumb."

"Unfortunately, he's been sealed in the foggy town in the nation evernight. Only Amanisis cam access that place." Amon smiled, "But did that ever stop us?"

"Nope~!"

"But it's still very soon, I remember Klein going in there before his sequence 4 ascension."

"Although its in Backlund, I'm sure we can figure out a way to break in with your real body with our increased characteristics."

"That auntie will be angry though..." the clone sighed, of course he by 'auntie' he meant Amanisis.

"Eh, she'll get over it." Amon smiled as he shut the book close and his figure soon dissapeared from the room.

"Amon, here take this." Klein said shyly as he handed Amon a silver necklace he himself had carved the incantations over. After becoming an official Nighthawk member and getting a raise he was able to buy another half made silver charm afte he had given his previous ones to his siblings. This one was especially made for Amon.

"This is..." Amon looked confusedly at the silver charm handed to him.

"A silver amulet, I carved it myself." Klein smiled, "This is to protect you with divine powers... I hope you like it." He had made this amulet by carving the goddess's symbol over it to ward of calamities and bad luck. He hoped that with this Amon would be safe, especially with his chronic disease...

Almon blinked again, holding the silver amulet in his hand reeking with Amanisis's divine power. "Y-yes."

"You don't like it?" Klein was heartbroken.

"No- its just..." for the first time in his life, Amon was truly speechless. "I don't... believe... in the goddess...?"

"Oh!" Klein's eyes widened in realization, he had completely forgotten about the fact that different people had different gods they believed in since he was only around the Nighthawks and his family who were all believers of the goddess. "Don't worry, it's okay to wear the symbols and charms of different gods, they dont mind." He had learned this from his mysticism curriculum.

Now, how to explain to this little kitten that all the gods were practically salivating to kill me... Amon sighed in his mind. He was sure that his amulet that was supposed to steer away bad luck would be the reason he'd be hit with many bad things as long as its power was effective.

Klein observed Amon's weird face and concluded, "Is it the goddess herself that you dont trust in?" He asked after a while. He didn't really mind, he wasn't an avid believer of her anyways. Just that he had never expected religion to come in between their relationship...

"Then I'll make some amulets with the powers of the Eternal Blazing Sun, Lord of Storm and The God of knowledge and wisdom for you next~!" Klein smiled brightly. Although for the first one he'd need gold accessories which would cost a lot, but he didn't mind if it was for Amon!

"..."

("Our finace wants to kill us!")

In the end, Amon had to steal the divine powers in the amulet and slightly change the symbols drawn from ot to turn it crooked so that it no longer held any connection to the goddess. Thankfully, he had managed to do this quick enough before the goddess had casted her gaze upon him. He'd be in deep trouble if she finds out that he was her hanging around her kitten.

He didn't throw the amulet away.

How could he, it was something especially made by his dear fiance with his own hands for him. Even if it was engraved with the symbol of another god... he'll just have to wait a bit before it would be HIS symbol Klein would be engraving everywhere for Amon's blessings!

Until then...

Amon glanced back down at the symbol of the goddess handing from his neck.

"..."

Just suffer a bit more...

On Monday morning at eight, in the Blackthorn Security Company.

Klein took off his hat and greeted Rozanne and Bredt. After exchanging a few words, he entered Captain Dunn Smith's office.

He pushed the door open and looked around. He suddenly had a shock, because Dunn's face was pretty pale and his gray eyes looked clouded, without their usual darkness.

"What happened? Hanass Vincent?" Klein asked in concern and shock. He had came across a supernatural event during the birthday banquet of Melissa's friend. The reason for the anomaly was the magical mirror Elizabeth and Selina had gotten from Hanass Vincent. Fortunately, Klein had succeeded in handling the matter before the evil spirit had managed to come out. Though for some reason he had chocked while trying to chant the goddess's name, failing his first ritual. But that had ended up with him realizing that be could person ritualistic magic with the help of his ring by directing accessing the grey fog! Without any need for some kind of god to be prayed to as well!

Dunn rubbed his forehead, took a sip of coffee, and replied with a bitter smile, "Hanass Vincent is dead."

"Who killed him ahead of time?" Klein sat before Dunn with his cane in hand.

Dunn didn't answer immediately but sighed and said, "Leonard and I went to look for Hanass Vincent last night. As his usual behavior didn't show any unusual signs and there was nothing odd about his house, I decided to enter his dreams to look for clues."

"In his dream, in his dream…"

His eyes showed fear as Dunn repeated himself twice, that was when he said, "In his dream, I saw a cross, a huge cross, one that blotted out the sky. On the huge cross there was a naked man nailed to it with black nails. His arms and legs were pinned with his arms extended outwards. He was hung upside down, his head hung low like a chandelier. There was strips of blood stains on his body."

"Upon seeing such a scene, I lost consciousness. I left Hanass Vincent's dream, and when I woke up, Leonard told me that Hanass had died in his sleep."

"Huge cross, hung upside down, the man covered in blood stains… It's similar to some of the stories of the True Creator that some of the hidden organizations believe in, but there are considerable differences too…" Klein made a deduction in suspicion.

The few hidden organizations that believed in the True Creator had only appeared in the last two or three centuries, such as the Aurora Order and the Iron and Blood Cross Order. However, similar such depictions had never disappeared over the past thousand plus years.

Dunn rubbed his forehead again. "We'll follow-up on this. As for you, go ahead and complete your initiation mission first."

By initiation mission, Dunn meant the mission that had to be completed by every Nighthawk member after formally joining the team to gain the recognition of the rest of the team.

Klein nodded and said, "Alright, but I still don't know what my mission is."

"I'll explain it, dont worry it's a very easy one." Dunn nodded and explained the mission to Klein. He just had to find the anomaly and solve the case regarding the famous philanthropist Sir Deweyville who was probably cursed in so extraordinary way that made him hear voices of groaning and pain no matter where he went.

"Alright," Klein nodded after he got his police uniform.

("Klein in a police uniform...."

"Stop drooling over me!")

"You..." Leonard deadpanned, "why are you wearing the holy symbol of the goddess?!"

Amon took a deep breath, then finally showed a smile, it was obviously fake. "Klein gifted it to me, how could I not wear it?"

Leonard observed the twitching corners of Amon's lips and silently chuckled in his mind, that's what he gets for bullying me all the time!

"I've already stolen the divine power it held and have ruined the mark a bit so that it no longer has the connection to Ama- her..." Amon corrected himself midway, knowing that just the name of Leonard evernight goddess might cause Leonard to lose control with his sequence.

"I don't know whether to be happy that you're suffering or feel sad for you..." Leonard sighed.

[I do admit seeing him wear the holy symbol of the goddess is quiet stress relieving.]

"It seems like someone is ready for more training and acting." Amon smiled evily as he grabbed the scarf Leonard and directly teleported them to a theater.

"Wha-what, where?!"

"Tingen's biggest theater, you'll recite your poems here." Amon smiled.

"I'll do what now." Leoanrd felt dread crawling up his body.

"Don't worry, I already tweaked the memories of the people here a bit so you can directly go up the stage and start singing and dancing- whatever you midnight poets do." Amon clapped his hands with glee.

"I have stage fright-"

"Ah! The curtain is rising, best if luck Leonard~!" Amon waved his hand in a goodbye gesture as he dissapeared from the stage, leaving only Leonard standing there alone in front of a waiting audience.

"Ah..."

This was all the old man's fault!

Leonard cried in his heart.

He looked at the audience eagerly staring at him and gulped, if he had known this was what Amon meant when he said he'd help Leonard increase in sequence- he would have never agreed!

"Boo!"

"Just start already!"

"I wasted my week's salary for this!"

Leonard mumbled under his breath, "Old man, I can hear your laughing."

[The audience is waiting, go sing.] One could hear the smugness in Pallez's voice.

Leonard wondered if it was too late to shoot himself in the head with his gun.
