Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

After handing out the mission, Klein followed his original schedule of mysticism lessons in the morning and combat lessons in the afternoon. The regularity of his life almost made him forget that he was a member of the Nighthawks. The 'curse' of often encountering supernatural incidents seemed to disappear as well.

It was Saturday, his turn to guard Chanis Gate.

Despite not being dawn yet, the well-ventilated but quiet and dark underground was illuminated by gas lamps. The dim yellow light emitted from the gas lamps were protected by glass, allowing them to steadily shine throughout the empty and quiet tunnel.

Klein sat in the duty room and casually flipped through the newspapers, magazines, and books piled before him. He directed some of his attention outside, to prevent anyone from charging inside the Chanis Gate.

Klein slumped back on his chair as he thought about Amon and his safety. There was a high chance that Amon had also been slumped into these weird coincidences through his interactions with Klein, and even staying away from him didn't let him escape the peril...

Well, at least now Klein knew why Amon had handed hin the potion ingredients for Clown, it wasn't that he had found out that he was an extraordinary and a member of the Nighthawks, but he was innocent and just manipulated into indirectly helping Klein... for what reason Klein did not know.

He... he should still keep away from Amon... just in case. Of course he won't completely ignore him and make his wife cry, but at least a little distance. Not just because Klein had started to grow a fondness for Amon, but also because currently he was the only connection Klein had to his own earth. Even if it's just a child of his fellow transmigrator.

In the eerie silence, Klein casually picked up a magazine and realized that it was Ladies Aesthetic, which talked about fashion and dating.

Dating...

"This must be from Rozanne…" he murmured in amusement as he flipped through it with his interest piqued.

Maybe it was due to the sudden advancement of camera technology in the past decade or so, not only did the magazine use a lot of illustrations, it even used monochrome pictures as their content—just like the newspapers.

They fashionably invited the famous play and musical actors to model the charms and the magical pairing of the clothing. In a short span of seven years, the new regional Backlund magazine became a mainstream magazine that spread across the nation.

"The dress looks nice, she's pretty too…" Klein flipped through it casually and didn't hide his aesthetic inclinations.

("CHEATER!")

It was at that moment he felt the air around him suddenly turn even colder and dangerous, as deathly killing intent surrounded all around him, making his spiritual intuition almost burst from sensing too much close danger.

Klein quickly shut down the magazine and looked around him frantically to see the source of danger.

There was nothing...

And the feeling had also dissapeared as well...

What even was that...?

Klein sighed as he warily sat back down again, still making sure to look all around him in search for any latent danger.

It was at that moment that his gaze shifted to the Chanis Gate- there were thumping noises coming from the Chanis Gate!

The commotion beyond the Chanis Gate grew in intensity, but the heavy black metal gates only shook. Otherwise, it didn't show any unusual signs.

"This is normal. I nearly died from the shock…" Klein muttered, before he prepared to return to the duty room.

Just then, he heard a sharp grinding noise. He looked at the heavy Chanis Gate bulging outwards as a crack appeared on in its surface!

Zing!

In the jarring noise, Klein's almost fixed eyes saw a figure. Its height was about the length of a man's arm, and it was wearing a classic, black, miniaturized regal gown. There was an obvious stain on the gown.

It had a not-so-exquisite face, black eyes, and tightly sealed lips.

It was a cloth puppet, a toy cloth puppet!

At that moment, when Klein was about to subconsciously raised his gun to take aim, the cloth puppet leaned heavily into the crack in Chanis Gate and unfurled the paper it was holding.

There were many mysterious symbols on the paper, some that Klein knew and some that he had yet to learn. Together, they formed a vertical eye!

Klein had yet to understand the situation when the regal-gowned puppet was suddenly dragged back by a shapeless force to the back of Chanis Gate!

Creak!

Chanis Gate closed once again, with no more knocking or pounding sounds.

The basement regained its tranquility and silence as though nothing had happened.

What... this was his first shift here and he already encountered something abnormal?! What is this transmigrator bad luck?!

Klein quickly hit the alarm button and soon Leonard and Kenley rushed in with their guns ready. Klein quickly explained to them about the situation, but as soon as he was done the guns were pointed right at him.

"Are you suspecting me?" He nervously chuckled as he raised up his arms in peace.

"Just protocol," Leonard quickly replied, "There was an accident before that led a Nighthawk to almost lose control while in duty, called the alarm and killed two of his colleagues." Before Klein could ask him how to prove himself as innocent, Leonard quickly started, "I have a way to check." After all, he didn't want to point the gun at Amon's finace for long even if it was for show! He already knew that there was no way that Klein would be in any danger like losing control with all the Amon's around him, but he still had to ACT like he didn't know that Klein had the protection of a King of Angels!

With a hoarse voice, since he bad been made to sing non stop in various stands and stages the past few days by a certain angel who was in love, Leonard started reciting a poem.

Seeing Klein not display any abnormal reactions, Leonard stopped his recital and smiled, "There's no problem. You are still our trusted partner." he was almost about to die with the way he could feel the Amon clones in the air glaring at him! But was it just him or that the Amons weren't acting that angry or protective than usual? Whatever, he'd ask Amon later.

After discussing about the matter with the other Nighthawks and reporting it to captain Dunn, Klein didn't stay any longer. He slowly walked out of 36 Zouteland Street and breathed in the cool morning air.

He felt a little more energized, suddenly remembering something he had forgotten all this time.

I forgot to tell the Captain and the rest about the piece of paper in the Misfortune Cloth Puppet's hands! How could I have forgotten? It was as if some power was influencing me, stopping me from telling this to the other Nighthawks…

It has been some time since the Antigonus family's notebook was present at Chanis Gate. The Misfortune Cloth Puppet 3-0625 should have been affected long ago. Why did it only show abnormal behavior last night?

Was it because it was the first time I was on shift at Chanis Gate? It used all of its power to show me the picture on the paper? What is the motive of the Antigonus family's notebook? Has it got to do with my survival despite making contact with it? And that I became a Seer?

This...

Kleim, who was planning to go have breakfast with Amon that day, changed his routes and took the carriage back to Daffodil street, his own home. He shouldn't endanger Amon... he also had something to confirm.

After greeting a waking Melissa and Benson a goodmorning and goodbye as they were heading to the church, Klein locked himself in his room and entered the grey fog and divined about the image he had been shown that night.

Just as he was drawing theories about what the symbol was and why the bok and the puppet had shown this to him, Klein heard a faint prayer as the crimson star in front of him started flowing and radiating light faintly.

He used the method of answering prayers and touched the illusory star. He saw the brown-haired young man who wore the unique black tight suit again.

The young man was kneeling on the ground, facing the pure crystal ball, still muttering about something.

Klein, who had purposely learned some Jotun, finally understood one of the sentences.

"Pray… Save… Father and Mother."

What a pity... even though he claimed to be a god and the mysterious ruler above the grey for, he had no way to actually save this young man's parents...

I'll see what I can do when I master more Jotun vocabulary and can understand what happened to his father and mother… Klein retracted his spirituality, wrapped it around himself, and initiated a descent.

When he returned to his bedroom, he dispelled the spirituality wall, changed into old but comfortable clothing, and laid down on the bed to get some sleep.

Klein went back to the Blackthorn Security Company in the afternoon to ask about the situation regarding the Antigonus family notebook and found out that it had recently been graded as a grade 1 sealed artifact and would be sent back to the holy cathedral, and Klein wouldn't be able to read it due to low clearance level.

After that he went to the divination club to quickly digest his potion and become a sequence 8 clown! In excitement, he forgot to flip a coin and see if it was a suitable for him to go to the divination club that day.

Amon stepped out of the carriage like a normal noble man and walked towards the divination club with a sad and somber look plastered on his face.

"Welcome to our divination club, do you want to get your fate read or join as a member?" The beautiful girl at the counter greeted happily at the noble and good looking man who had just entered.

"I want to get my fate read." The sad looking handsome noble said with slight red and puffy eyes, like he had been crying. "Lately, I've been feeling like fiance has been straying further and further away from me..."

Ah... Angelica realized what this man was here for, without any sort of hesitation she suggested, "Good for you, our best divination master, an actual seer is here today. He only chsarges a fee of 8 pence sinve he does not believe in greed, He must still be in the topaz room."

"Thank you so much," the man wearing the monocle replied with a soft smile, bowing slightly and Angelica could see the beautiful ring on his ring finger.

Whoever that fiance was to throw away this handsome, rich and devoted looking man... that woman must be trash! She puffed up in her mind as he observed the man walking towards the topaz room.

Ah...

She forgot to tell the man Mr. Klein's name...

How could she have?

It was like the thought had been stolen from her kind as she was talking to that man.

Weird...

Klein, who was just playing around with different divination techniques on his own in the topaz room, suddenly felt his perception stir and make sirens in his mind.

Kleim quickly glanced out of the room to see someone walking to the room.

Was it someone dangerous?

No-

It was Amon!

Klein quickly covered his face with the hood he had borrowed as a prop from Ms. Angelica as a joke to see if this helped him digest the last few bits of his Seer potion and sat down nervously in his seat.

Why was Amon here?! And why was he even trying to hide his face- Ms. Angelica must have surely introduced him with his name at the counter! Klein suddenly regretted not having divined whether going to the divination club was safe that day!

"Are you the Seer that the lady at the counter spoke of?" Amon said as he entered the room with a small bow.

He doesn't seem to recognize me... seems like Ms. Angelica forgot to tell him my name- good!

Klein made his voice a bit hoarse as he replied in a low voice, "Yes,"

"She didn't tell me your name though, sir." Amon politely said as he sat on the other chair in front of Klein.

Uhhhh-

"You can refer to me as whatever," Klein replied with a mysterious chuckle. Okay what the fuck was he even doing?!

"Then, Mr. Seer," Amon smiled somberly, "What can you divinate?"

"Anything you want, just give the required information I would need." Klein replied smoothly, he was also quiet interested to divine about his fiance. Would their marriage happen smoothly- no what was he thinking?!

"Actually... I have a fiance." Amon sighed as he pulled out an embroidered handkerchief, "Lately these days my fiance has been acting really suspiciously..."

Did he find out that I'm a transmigrator and not actually Klein Moretti?! Klein struggled to keep his body language neutral. No no no, he must only have a hunch right now...

"He even comes home very late, he never visits me much these days, even 4 days long gaps, ever since he got his new job it's like I'm on the back of his mind." Amon confessed as a few stray tears rolled down his pale and exquisite cheeks

What is even happening.... Klein felt confused.

"And its almost been an entire month since he even has touched me intimately..."

Is this something you confess to a random fortune teller?! Kleim was shocked, he suddenly felt glad that it was him that Amon came to and not someone else!

"I've tried so many times to get him to sleep with me, stayed around him with various stages of undress, made him touch and fondle me-"

Amon, WHY?! Klein cried in his heart. He was really REALLY glad that he was the fortune teller that Amon chose. He should gift Ms. Angelica something for recommending Amon to him and not someone else.

"But he keeps making stupid excuses and running away," Amon sobbed again as he wiped his tears with his handkerchief. "What does he take me as? An idiot? It's obvious that he no longer wishes to touch me or have sex with me... almost like he's disgusted with me..."

Klein felt a wave of guilt and shame overtake his senses. He... he really shouldn't have treated Amon like that... he glanced back up at Amon who was crying so openly in front of him with red puffy eyes uncontrollably. Amon in front of him was always smiling and happy... but was this how he had been suffering all along behind his back when he was not there?

Klein pursed his lips.

He promised himself that he would explain himself properly when he would come back home that day.

"It's gotten so bad, that I've started suspecting... things..."

Suspecting what?!

"He always says that his job is very busy and comes home very late every day... bug one day I asked his little sister and she confessed to me that he comes back home at time every day but then goes back out again after a meal with different outgoing clothes like he wants to meet someone else... ah- I'm sorry, these tears-" Amon hiccuped as he wiped his tears with the handkerchief which was already soaked with tears. "And those days he said that he works through his rest days, his sibling said that he always seemed to go somewhere else rather than his job considering his clothes that day... he even sometimes used the excuse of visiting me when he hadn't even come and seen me for days..."

Why... why was this going on a completely different direction?! This makes me sound like I'm cheating! Klein cried in his heart. All those times he was actually going to the divination club!

"One of my friends works at his firm and he even said that he always goes back on time and doesn't work much overtime like he claimes to be,"

Leonard, you-! Klein cursed in his heart.

"And he even had a... 'night shift' on his job yesterday... I went go visit him at his home and found out that he was out again... even went to his company where they said he wasn't there..." Amon sobbed weakly as he looked down shamefully, "Although I know that I should trust my finace, he was the one who first came at me, but I cant help but feel that he's being unfaithful..."

I'm really not!

"Mr. Seer! Can you please divinate if my fiance is actually cheating on me?" Amon asked with a heartbroken expression.

Making faces like these... you're actually making me feel guilty when I haven't even done what you're accusing me of doing!

Klein coughed and spoke in a hoarse voice, "I can, what kind of divination method do you want to use?"

He'd quickly soothe his crying wife and come back home early with flowers and apologize for his tardiness!

"Anything you reccomend." Amon smiled politely as he wiped his wet cheeks.

"Then I'll use the mystical pendulum." That was the fastest and easiest method which made people impressed as they see the topaz pendulum rotate on it's own. "Please write your statement in this sheet of paper that you would like to divine. It must be a statement and not a question and should not be vague, with the information you've already given me with the story I'd automatically be able to make a divination without any more information."

"Alright," Amon nodded as he picked up the fountain pen and wrote on the piece of parchment with elegant and neat writing.

'My fiance has seen and appreciated the figure of a lady in a sexual sense on this day.'

Klein couldn't help but be impressed, Amon actually put 'this day' in order not to get information from the last 5 years. Of course, Klein was a faithful husband so this statement must automatically be false.

"When the pendulum rotates clockwise, it means the statement is true, if it rotates counterclockwise, it means the statement is false. Now, I'll begin." Klein said as he closed his eyes behind his hood and started his divination.

He had no doubts that the pendulum would rotate counterclockwise.

...

It rotated clockwise.

Klein instantly remembered looking at that figure of the lady on that magazine while in his shift at the Chanis Gate and casually appreciating the sight from his habits back on earth-!

This-!

FUCK!

"To think your powers are so strong that the pendulum rotated on its own..." Amon choked out as more silent tears kept escaping from his mind.

Klein instantly wanted to make Amon believe that he was just a scam and a hobbyist- but Amon get going on.

"I even secretly tested for wind current and small movements in the hands, and nothing was out of order. You truly are a true seer." Amon said with a sad smile as he stood up, he was no longer crying, as if he had exhausted and dried up all his tears and had accepted this reality.

What do you I am a true seer?! Klein realized horrified, Amon had actually believed that he was a true Seer and had believed that Klein was cheating on him!

"Thank you so much for your time, Mr. Seer," Amon bowed politely as he fished out his wallet, "Here, your payment." He quickly stuffed two 10 pound notes into Klein's hand and dashed out of the divination club with tears in his eyes!

Klein sat there frozen as he felt his Seer potion completely digest. Was reading your fiance's fate a big jump for a Seer? That's not the point-!

"Mr. Moretti? Are you alright?" Angelica asked worriedly as she entered the room, "the guest right now dashed out crying... seems like it was true after all. I truly can't believe a lady would cheat on a guy like that, what a bitch! Pardon my language... oh-! He actually paid 20 pounds even when I told him the cost was only 8 pence, what a nice man."

"I'm sorry miss, but I have something to do." Klein quickly shot up from his seat, fished out a 5 soli note from his pocket and handed it to Angelica as payment and tip, gathered his 20 pounds and dashed out the divination club in hurry.

Elizabeth and Selena entered the divination club and found out that Melissa's brother was actually a seller respected Seer here by were unfortunately not able to meet the young man who had quickly gone somewhere else right before they came here.
