Chapter 1 - New Beginnings

Elijah awoke to his mom opening his curtains, the light blinding his eyes.

"5 more minutes..", Elijah said as he turned over and huddled into his blanket.

"Eli, get up! You told me to wake you up at 5:30!", Elijah's mother, Alannah, yanked the blanket off of him. Elijah let out a long annoyed groan.

"Yeah, yeah, just get up you have school." Alannah exited the room and went downstairs.

Elijah tiredly got up from his bed in a daze, barely proccessing what was happening. He put on his slippers and headed to his bathroom and took a warm shower. He threw on a bath-robe and went downstairs.

"Oh, so sleeping beauty finally woke up, huh?" His sister, Esther, said teasingly.

"You're going into 8th or something be quiet.."

"WE'RE IN THE SAME CLASS?!"

"Well, you don't look like you are."

"Oh, thank you." Esther said with a big smile on her face.

"That wasn't a compliment."

"Man, fuck off!"

Their father looked up from his newspaper and gave a menacing stare.

"Jeez..sorry Elijah.." Esther said forcefully.

Elijah slightly smirked as a way to say 'Exactly you shit.'

"Apologise Elijah." Hs father, Cassian, said as he got his suitcase.

"What?!She started- ugh nevermind, sorry Esther."

The boy sat down at the table and ate his breakfast calmly, knowing he had a lot of time left. He glanced at his phone after eating and got up.

"Whats wrong you have tons of time left?" His mother said as he walked to the stairs.

"I didn't brush my teeth and do my skincare." He replied, unbothered.

Elijah walked upstairs to his room, brushed his teeth and used whitening strips. After a few minutes he took off the whitening strips and washed his face, carefully massaging every bit. He did his skincare, and walked out of his bathroom.

Around 20 minutes had passed since he entered the bathroom, he checked at his phone and the time read 6:31.

He opened his closet and took out the outfit he had chosen the night before school. He grabbed his bag on the way out and put on his shoes.

Alannah announced, "Okay, is everyone ready? We're going to leave now."

"Yes mom we're ready!" Esther groaned.

"Agh, sorry just wait a bit I misplaced my purse and keys."

Esther looked at her brother and saw his messy hair, it was so messy, it looked like a birds nest. She took her mini hair brush from her pocket and tried to use it on him.

"What are you doing?! Get off of me!" Elijah yelled.

"Well, it's not my fault your hair looks bad!"

"Wait, really. Does it actually look that bad?"

"Why would I lie to you on that."

Elijah snatched the mini hairbrush from his sister and looked in the mirror. His sister infact was not joking it was bad, but not as bad as he thought.

He let out a deep sigh and brushed his hair gently as his mom got her purse and car keys.

"Okay, let's go now?" Alannah said with a big smile.

"Of course mom!" Elijah and Esther said in unison.

Alannah dropped of Esther and Elijah to their new school, Esther was beaming with excitement but Elijah was nervous and slightly fiddiling with the end of his shirt.

"Elijah, calm down, I promise nothing bad is going to happen today." Esther told her brother comfortingly.

"Yeah..It's a new school, No one knows me here."

"Bitch, you're acting like Y/N, from those fuckass wattpad stories."

"STOP I DID NOT MEAN IT LIKE THAT!"

"Yeah, sure.."

The two laughed it off before entering the school, it was massive, lockers on the sides, students in their own friend groups, some huddled up beside the lockers and some just scattered in the hallway.

Thoughts flooded Elijah's mind, thoughts of his old school and the incident. He didn't want to remember it, he hated the thought of it, the hours after school, the bruises on his limbs and face, the endless days of torture. The more he thought about it, the more pain he could feel in the exact spots they hurt him, and where their gruff, sweaty and disgusting hands were placed on that day.

He was disgusted with the thought of it, and himself, how he couldn't do anything and froze in fear.

"Elijah, come on we have to go to the office, we weren't here for the induction programme."

Esther grabbed Elijah's hand and took the lead when she saw the ghosted face on her brother's face.

Elijah tried his best to calm down, putting on his facade he always used.

"Do you know where it is even?" Elijah said jokingly.

Esther paused mid-step, her eyes widening with realisation.

"…No, I actually don't.."

When Esther told him that, Elijah snapped out of the trance he was in, most of his concentration went to finding the office.

"Ugh, you're so clueless!"

"Let's just ask someone!"

Esther scanned the hallway and saw her target, he was a bit muscular, wearing jeans and a plain black shirt.

Esther walked up to him, cleared her throat and said,

"Excuse me, I'm sorry to annoy you but me and my brother are new here, we were wondering if you could show us where the office was?"

"Huh? Oh you're new, yeah sure I can show you. Will you need help getting to your homeroom too?"

"Um..I don't know. I mean if it isn't bothering you then sure."

"Don't worry, it's not gonna bother me. I'm Samuel by the way, what about you two?"

"I'm Esther!"

"Hn..I'm Elijah."

"Are you two twins?"

"Yup!" Esther said with the biggest smile on her face.

Elijah could never grasp the idea of how his sister is so energetic and happy all the time. She was so confident in everything she did.

"That's cool."

Samuel guided the twins to the office, showing them which classes are which and told them about some things that had happened last year with some students and what they did.

"Okay, this is the office, I'll just wait here for you guys to come out."

"Okay, come on Elijah!"

"Yeah, yeah."

Esther knocked on the door,

"Come on in."

They went inside the office, it was smaller than the office of their old school. The books on the shelf were neatly organised and the table was clear of everything except a pen holder.

"We're here for our schedules."

"Names?"

"Esther Smith."

"Elijah Smith.."

"Hm..ah yes, here you are."

The secretary pulled out a folder, inside were the schedules of students who weren't there for the induction programme, there were maybe around five students who didn't attend in their year group.

"Here you go."

The secretary handed the schedules to them and went back to typing on her computer almost immediately.

The two exited the office to see Samuel laughing with another boy, he was shorter than him, his blonde hair glistened in the sunlight and his eyes narrow when he spoke.

"James, stop, I'm gonna choke!" Samuel was non stop laughing, his face was slightly pink trying his best to not laugh.

"Okay, fine!" James said with a grin from ear to ear.

"Oh, you're back?" Samuel said as he cleared his throat.

"Yeah."

"You guys must be Elijah and Esther, right?! Samuel told me a little about you!" James went up to them and introduced himself,

"I'm James Park!"

"Well you already know my name, so."

"Yup! Esther, right? And you are Elijah?"

"Yeah.."

"Oh, okay, if you want me to!"

"What class are you both in?" Samuel asked as he finally stopped laughing.

"I'm in class..602! And Elijah's in.."

"I'm in 601."

"Well I'm in 601, and Samuel is in 602! Come on guys I'll show you to your lockers!"

"Uhm..okay.?"

Elijah fiddled around with his fingers as he walked with James, Samuel, and Esther to their lockers.

James explained carefully how to unlock the lockers, pointing here and there and telling them which direction to turn the dial to.

"I know it's a bit tricky, but don't worry, you'll eventually get the hang of it. So what classes do you guys have?"

Elijah showed his timetable to James, and James took it.

"Hm…We're in some classes together like, English, Maths and Spanish. Show me yours Esther!"

"Here!"

"We only have English and Science together..But I think you have most of your classes with Anastasia! She's so sweet, you'll love her."

"Really? That sounds nice!"

"Hey hey hey!"

A boy walked up to them, waving his arm in the air.

"I don't recognise you guys, who are you?"

"Hey Damian."

"Hey Samuel! But back to you guys."

"I'm Elijah."

"I'm Esther, we're twins."

Damian slightly tilted his head and stared at Evander, he saw him from somewhere or recognised him, but he just couldn't place his finger on where he did.

Elijah felt the boy's gaze on him. It made him uncomfortable, but he couldn't help but wonder why he looked familiar.

Maybe it's a case of Deja Vu? Can you even get Deja Vu with people? Is that even possible?

These types of thoughts wracked Elijah's head, it was eating him alive like a brain-sucking parasite. He felt as if he would go insane if he didn't know from where he recognised Damian from.

He sub-consciously stepped closer to Damian, trying to get a closer look at him. His wide eyes, squinting at the other.

"Have we met before?"
