Chapter 1 - Rich, Richer and The Devil

Hey, I'm Axel Goldberg.

I know it's a funny name, but it'll be funnier once I mention that I'm filthy rich.

Oh, did I mention that already?

I am the son of quite literally the wealthiest person in the world and the only heir to one of the biggest corporations on earth.

As you would expect, my life is pretty amazing.

During the day, I would be forced to go to school to improve my "social skills", and as much as that sucked, at least I had no shortage of entertainment as I would make the poorer kids fight each other for money.

Grades were no issue either, as I could simply just bribe the teachers so my report card was flawless every single semester, and guess what? That would just lead to me getting an even higher allowance, meaning even more fun!

I would party all night, every night, at the most expensive clubs with my friends and several women whom I totally did not hire for myself, and would drink only the most expensive liquor, even though, technically, it was illegal, but who cares?

It's not like law enforcement could do anything anyway...

Oh, did I forget to mention that the entirety of the law enforcement in my area was also under my control?

I always enjoyed using them to get rid of people I didn't like, for example, sometimes I would overhear some random bum talking shit about me behind my back for some reason, probably just because they were jealous of my wealth...

Anyway, I would simply just call the police, tell them who I am, and boom! The next day, some tragic fate would have befallen that kid, like his tiny house burned down or his father got fired from his already low-income job for various reasons.

And just like that, I wouldn't see him at school anymore, and the balance, which is everyone being my friend at school, would be restored.

It was as if I were a god, playing in a sandbox that was built purely for me.

And as such, I simply voiced my opinion.

As my friends and I were walking back from the club after a late night out, I simply told them what I thought.

"Hey, you guys, don't you think I'm a god?"

For some strange reason, they had all had a worried expression on their faces.

I grew a little impatient and annoyed.

"Answer me!"

They all jumped, visibly shaken, before one of them finally answered.

"H-Hey man, I really don't think you sho-"

I cut him off because at this point, I was very irritated, as anyone would be.

"What? What's the issue? I have complete control over all of your lives and can do pretty much anything that can be done. Am I not a god?"

He was silent, and soon, before I suddenly remembered he was also the religious one of the group.

I said with a smirk, "Ohhh, I get it now. You truly think the real god is some celestial being who exists in the skies up there... It's a real shame that he never shows his face around here, isn't it?"

The boy was pretty much staring at the ground now.

I continued, "You really are naive, aren't you?" I said with a small chuckle, "The only 'gods' that exist in our world are the ones with an exorbitant amount of money. They are the ones with all the real power, and guess who's at the top of that list?"

"In fact, I'll prove it. If this 'god' of yours truly exists, then he shouldn't tolerate all of my 'heinous' actions, right? So where is he?"

They were all dead silent.

Then, with a grin, I looked up at the sky and screamed as loud as I could.

"SCREW YOU, GOD! YOU DON'T HAVE ANY REAL POWER, ONLY I DO!"

The moments that followed were pure silence.

One of them finally spoke again.

"O-Ok, we get it, man, you're a god..."

Another agreed with him.

"Yeah... Let's just head back home, ok?"

I was going to, but as I was looking at the sky, I noticed three strange objects falling downwards in a circular motion.

I couldn't exactly tell what it was, but not long after, with a great panic, I realised that they were swords.

The swords were mostly silver and had strange runes inscribed on the sides, and had a type of aura connecting them to each other, as if they were forming a barrier nobody could get into.

Or were they supposed to keep me from getting out...

I couldn't tell in my state of panic.

Not to mention, the swords were really big.

The swords ended up striking the ground around me, startling me and making me lose my balance as I fell down the next second.

"W-What the..."

My friends were looking back in awe at what was happening.

Suddenly, a figure wearing nothing but some sandals, a t-shirt with flora patterns on it, and khaki shorts appeared.

What was even stranger, other than his clearly out-of-season attire, was his hair and eye color.

He had white hair, red eyes, and was oddly handsome. Actually, he was too handsome, as if every single part of his figure was meant to embody perfection.

That alone angered Axel.

The strange figure then spoke to him.

"Ah, I remember you."

Axel remained confused.

"You were quite a noble soul back in the day," the entity said with a sad smile.

"A-Are you god?" Axel said, clearly frightened.

The entity stared at him, then laughed.

"Who? Me? Pfft, I could never compare myself to god. I am nothing but a humble servant of his."

"T-Then who are you?" Axel continued.

"You will find out soon enough anyway. If I were you, I don't think that would be what I would be worried about."

"Um, ok. Can you let me go then by chance...?" Axel asked, hoping the strange encounter was just some delusion of his.

The strange figure laughed again, even more heartily this time.

"After what you just did? No way," he said with a smile.

"W-Wait, what?" Axel was starting to really get frightened now.

"You had the arrogance to challenge god himself and have committed so many sins before you even reached the age of twenty."

The figure continued, "Behavior like that doesn't simply go unnoticed, especially when you scream directly at the heavens about your self-proclaimed 'godhood'."

"And because of that, you will now have to pay the price, but don't worry, you will also have the ability to redeem yourself."

"Wait, s-stop!"

The swords that surrounded him now were starting to glow brighter, and he saw something that looked like a magic circle forming below him.

He thought to himself

Am I seriously getting teleported?

Axel looked back at his friends in desperation.

"Guys, help me out here! C'mon, I'll buy you guys whatever you want, please!"

The same boy he had yelled at earlier stepped forward.

For a moment, Axel had regained hope and gained back a smile on his face.

"Yes! Alright, now just try to remove these swords, they seem like they weigh a lot, but if me and yo-"

The kid stopped right before the swords and spat into the ground.

"Serves you right, asshole." The boy said with a crazed smile on his face.

"W-What..."

The rest of them started chiming in as well with various insults that Axel had never heard them say before.

"Y-You bastards! I will make you pay for this! When I get out of here, you're all dead! You hear me!"

The figure standing behind him chuckled a bit before talking once more.

"Oh, you're not getting out of here any time soon, buddy. Anyways, your time is up."

"It's time for you to go."

The magic circle and brightening of the swords seemed to reach their apex, and Axel felt himself being ripped apart and reformed.

He tried to let out a shriek, but no sound came out.

He couldn't see anything at all until his vision came back to him all at once.

He was falling.
