'Money's on the move!...If you your lucky you may catch it!' The girl beamed brightly as she breathed in the smell of money.
Alexander looked up at the starry night sky.
"Won't your parents worry about you?" Alexander wondered
They stopped to get snacks and were seated at a bus stop as they waited for their bus.
"I…I don't think so…" she sulked
Alexander licked his ice lollipop in thought, whatever Miriam paid her doctor wasn't enough. He felt amazing then he looked at the sulking young person who took a sword for him.
"Why are you here in Goldenville, Little Highness?" Alexander asked
Violet answered weakly, "I messed up."
"A little more context would be lovely." Alexander responded
Violet sighed, "My friends and I were planning an experiment that I came up with, and honestly it was to become famous…who doesn't want to be? We planned for ages, dreaming of what we'd do when we make it and on the day of the experiment I went to get another burette flask and boom!"
Alexander stilled
"Everything happened so fast...fire was everywhere...and they called fire help, I tried…I really tried…" she told with tears staining her cheeks
Alexander waited for her to calm down.
"Before I knew it…I was in the hospital and they were in the ICU…." She smiled sadly
Alexander interrupted, "You did nothing wrong…who would have known?"
She finally looked at him from her pack of jellies.
Alexander continued, "You can't control everything sadly…today proved it. You said you were planned, nothing wasn't where it should be and you did everything a thirteen year old genius could have."
Violet looked at him with wide eyes as if it was the first time she was hearing such information.
"We're here and you saved my life. I hope you don't blame yourself and carrying this burden. I for one think at your core, you're a good person how many people would take a blade for you. I know you tried jumping head first." Alexander chuckled "You're intelligent, you'll figure out what I mean. Remember I'm on your side, we're a team...Let's get you home."
Violet answered, "That's…an interesting way of putting it…"
She boarded the bus, they sat in the back and Violet opened the Maxwell's Journal. A new page read:
'There greed swallowed me up
Yet they were not yet satisfied with that much
The schemed with each other and about one another
A race began
With alliances and poisoned daggers
The end is near and their wants are bloody
Beware, young lions
For there is no ploy too low in search of victory'
"I think we've joined the race?" Violet frowned
Alexander nodded, "And this is a warning that the other players aren't friendly…we need to find a way out."
"Of course we do. I don't know way but what we're competing for seems…dangerous." Violet told
The two children were deep in thoughts, they had the same stop and separated to their respective homes. Violet looked around her quiet house on her way to her room.
"No ploy is too low…" she repeated to herself in worry
The young girl wondered why she told Alexander, who she barely knew so much information as compared to her own family!
"Maybe…it's because he was a stranger…I don't know. What was I thinking?!" She said in frustration
She'll protect Alexander, he's on her side and her only friend. The fatigue finally got up with her as she drifted into dreamless sleep.
---
Sunrise came and her internal clock forced her awake. She felt the area that once held her core, tried to focus ether but felt a sharp pain. Violet confirmed that the area was still usable but would take probably take ten time as more time to form as last time
Violet packed her back and helped herself to a bowl of cereal as she completed the rest of her homework. Oddly enough the bizarre book would have been a wonderful pastime if their lives weren't on the line.
She left the house leaving a note saying that she went to school on her own. Alexander and her were going to meet up at school and look at the other page that received writing besides the warning.
"Little highness, over here!"
Violet frowned, "Why do you call me that?"
"Dunno, sounds like the perfect name for you so it just stuck." Alexander smiled
She huffed, "I HAVE A NAME!!"
"You see. Getting upset makes me want to continue." Alexander sighed with feigning sadness
They eventually reached the library and sat in the furthest area. The opened the book to the latest update.
There was picture of a red bull, a lion was above it and griffon was to its left. It read:
'Money's on the move!
If you your lucky you may catch it!'
"I don't have a clue." She admitted
Alexander pulled out a newspaper from his bag and dropped it on the table revealing an identical picture of the red bull.
"That's the slogan of the most popular casino in town…" Alexander told "Can you play blackjack?"
Violet smiled, "Yes and more…my uncle was a horrible influence."
"See you after school." Alexander smirked "We'll be bait for the owner to show up."
The duo pushed through their ten classes and met up at the bus top. Alexander wanted to use the bus and Violet wanted to walk so they played roc-paper-scissors to decide-Bus won
The huge establishment was breathtaking, six storey with a giant red bull logo in front...they entered.
"So what are we playing?" Alexander asked
Violet smiled, "Everything and more."
The girl beamed brightly as she breathed in the smell of money.
Alexander frowned," Should I worried?"
Violet scoffed," What, no."
Violet lied to herself that this was definitely just for baiting the owner.
